Brand New 2 Bedroom Raspberry Red Rural Cottage

If you’re looking for Salt Spring Island Accommodation we’d be delighted to have you stay with us at Cosy Woodpecker Cottage B&B. We’re located 5km north of Ganges in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

Cosy Woodpecker Cottage is a brand new 2 bedroom raspberry red cottage with great views over the property. It’s completely self contained and fully equipped with two gorgeous bedrooms, sitting room with wrap-around sofa, wood-burning stove, a soothing bathroom with ‘zen’ soaker tub, 30ft wide covered deck and more. The cottage is nestled at the edge of a woodland of arbutus and fir. Guests are welcome to explore the property - 5 acres of mixed natural woodland with a beautiful rocky ridge that you can climb in search of peace, wildlife or the old camping platform! Two acres have been cleared and fenced which provides a delicious harvest of fruits, berries and vegetables as we love to grow as much of our own food as we can. Sunny, light and spacious, with herbs, strawberries and raspberries right outside your front door - just help yourselves!

Bonus Welcome Basket: On your arrival you will find a welcome basket filled with delicious local produce for you to enjoy during your stay.

Nature: The property is also a haven for the birds and bees. There are 5 different types of woodpecker, 2 types of hummingbirds and a host of other birds and animals including owls, the gorgeous mini Pacific Tree Frog and more. On sunny days it’s always fun to see how many different types of bee you can find on almost any flowering plant. Click here to learn more about nature on Salt Spring Island.

Come to explore everything that Salt Spring Island has to offer. Whether it’s a fun weekend getaway, a break with the kids, a chance to unwind or a longer stay we are happy to recommend things to do, places to eat and sights to see. Some of our visitors are looking to move here, we’ve had people come on honeymoon, writing retreats, to attend a course – and we’re popular as a first getaway with your baby too!

And winter is a great time to relax: Not only will you get great pricing and special offers, but Salt Spring has many great winter events like our huge November Book Sale , fabulous Christmas Craft Fairs, Seedy Saturday in February and more. About Duncan Elsey

Well, we’re originally from England. Duncan is a ‘Northerner’ from Manchester and Emma is from The New Forest in the South of England.

We both went to university, graduated, went to work for big companies, moved around a bit and then met at work in 1997. We got married in 2002, moved from suburbia to a commuter town and traveled (1.5 hours each way) to work in the City of London, England every day for 5 years.

After years of dealing with the long commute, unreliable transport system, busy city and giving our lives to our jobs we decided to move to Vancouver, Canada – for a better quality of life. Well, it was the same trap. I started a business (Simplicity Life Coaching Ltd.) and Duncan went back to work. The commute may have been less, and for me at least – the work more meaningful – but somehow this STILL wasn’t it. We still never seemed to have enough TIME. We wanted more space, more peace and quiet, more nature, more community, more fun and more time to do what we love.

And so we visited Salt Spring Island for a long weekend in February in 2006. There was rain, snow and a windstorm that knocked the power out (which meant we had no water – the B&B had an electric-powered well), and that was it – we fell in love with Salt Spring. It was that weekend that we began our move to Salt Spring – even if only in our heads.

Several visits to Salt Spring later, we bought 5 acres with a vacation cottage on it (now our home) in April 2007 and moved to Salt Spring full-time in May 2008.

Since moving to Salt Spring we have been busy renovating our home, we have built and finished the Cosy Woodpecker Cottage, pulled out lots of invasive brambles, thistles and broom, grown lots of food and got involved in the community, as well as running our own businesses.

So, now after several years on Salt Spring Island we’re finally very happy to be launching Cosy Woodpecker Cottage B&B!

Exceptional Hosts and Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is even more beautiful in person - great layout and design. Being situated mid island the location is central and it's also a convenient ten minute drive to town (Ganges).

My partner and I along with our toddler and pug spent a week at the Woodpecker Cottage and we could have easily stayed longer. I found that I had to pull myself off of the balcony I was so relaxed and content.

I feel the same as the previous reviews, the setting was private and the cottage well equipped (we didn't need to bring our coffee grinder - who knew!). As well, Emma, Duncan and Dexter were very welcoming hosts.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 spent a wonderful week at the Cosy Woodpecker. The cottage was lovely - clean, bright, well-decorated, private, and had everything we needed and more! Our kids loved Dexter and Emma & Duncan were great hosts. Their website was extremely helpful for navigating the island. The Cosy Woodpecker was a short drive to Ganges and various activities. We would highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Salt Spring Island and hope to be back ourselves some day soon.

Wonderful Relaxing, Private Setting

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place for our family. We were on Salt Spring to attend a wedding at Salt Sping Winery and at times there were as many as eight of us. The bedrooms were large enough for a pack n play and single areo bed. Lots of room and the attached deck was our haven. When we weren't sightseeing or swimming we took advantage of being outside and enjoying the scenery from this space. The cottage was well equipped, very clean and very nicely decorated, but at the same time had a homey feeling, as soon as you walked in the door. Emma and Duncan are a lovely couple and very good hosts. It was so nice to arrive and have berries, bread, butter, homemade jam, coffee, cream, and milk all there for us to get us through to the next morning. It was wonderful, can't say enough about this place. Dexter, provided the entertainment at times, and so we have lovely memories and must say would highly recommend Salt Spring and this lovely cottage to everyone. Hopefully, we will have another visit in our future to Salt Spring and the Cosy Woodpecker Cottage.

Beautiful setting for relaxation

  • 4 of 5

Duncan and Emma have done an amazing job to create a place to relax. We enjoyed every aspect from the decor to the music and book selection. They were very accommodating and helpful. The property is beautiful. The children enjoyed the freedom to explore. The location of the Cosy Woodpecker is very central to everything. Saltspring Island and the Cosy Woodpecker did bot disappoint and we hope to return one day. Thankyou Duncan and Emma!

Exactly what we were looking for

  • 5 of 5

In a nutshell, it was comfortable, well appointed, had good internet connectivity, a large and comfortable balcony with a good sense of privacy but was still only a short drive to Ganges. Both indoor and outdoor spaces worked perfectly. Someone had a good eye as the colours and appointments were pleasing from the moment we walked in. Duncan, Emma and Dexter the dog make the Cozy Woodpecker an easy place to be and made themselves readily available should we have any questions. The cottage is quite new and was clean and well maintained. We chose to eat in most nights exploring the island by day. Dog friendly walks, coffee shops, wineries, and a cider brewer were all easily accessible. We will be back.

A perfect Gulf Islands get-away

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four have stayed at the Cosy Woodpecker each summer for the past three years. The kids love exploring the expansive gardens, picking cherries and wild raspberries. This year, we spotted deer, rabbits, hummingbirds, and woodpeckers. The cottage is impeccable and the hosts are extremely welcoming and generous. Can't wait to go back!
