Franklin House Rental Photos and Description

Historic Folk Victorian Home, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms

Franklin Battlefield Inn is a beautiful historic Folk Victorian home built c. 1902, but with all the modern luxuries for the 21st century traveler… including three bedrooms, two bathrooms with limitless hot water provided by a tank-less hot water heater, a fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops, tile back splash, a gas stove, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and ice maker, washer and dryer, a vent-less gas log fireplace, four flat screen TVs with Direct TV, DVR (over 700 channels!), a blue-ray DVD player, and more.

Franklin Battlefield Inn (aka “the F.B.I.”) is centrally located in Historic Downtown Franklin! If you are here to visit the Number One Small Town in TN ( according to Southern Living), you will want to stay here at the FBI! Walk to Franklin’s thriving Main Street, dining, groceries, shopping, parks, museums and more. And if you are here to visit Nashville, Franklin Battlefield Inn is only a hop, skip and a jump from Music City USA (just a 25 minute drive).

Our county historian named this family home “Franklin Battlefield Inn,” because the house is located on ground zero of the Battle of Franklin. It is argued that the Battle of Franklin was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, and this house sits at the very center of where the battle was fought! The Carter House and Museum are just two blocks north.

After the Civil War, Samuel P. Redford bought land from the Carter family and built several houses using wood from his lumber mill. Between 1899 and 1902, Sam Redford built this home using the finest red oak from his mill. Since then, five generations of Redfords have lived here (and a couple died here, but shhh don’t tell the kids there are ghosts). We have heard stories of how our ancestors used to board guests in this home. We hope to bring back this tradition of hospitality by welcoming you to stay at the FBI.

With a gorgeous fenced in back yard, spacious deck and crab orchard stone island with fire pit, Franklin Battlefield Inn is a great place for events such as parties, teas, cookouts, reunions or weddings. For an additional fee, you may have your party at the FBI. (Please note that events must be approved and scheduled in advance.)

About Mary Ellen and Clyde Redford

Mary Ellen and Clyde Redford are “Southerners” through and through, having lived in middle TN all their lives. Mary Ellen was born and raised in Nashville. She graduated from the Harpeth Hall School for Girls and the University of TN. She taught school for seven years at Franklin Elementary School before retiring to become a full time mom. Clyde was born and raised in Franklin, TN at a time when this small town was more like “Mayberry.” He graduated from Battle Ground Academy and Lipscomb University. His career was spent in the insurance industry, which culminated in him being President of Gale-Smith and Company, and later Board Chairman and CEO. He retired in 2010.

Mary Ellen and Clyde met on a “blind date” in June of 1968 and married in December of 1969. They are the proud parents of Matt, Meg, and Will and the proud grandparents of two amazing grandchildren, Emily and Bryson. After spending 36 years in Franklin raising their children, they moved to southwest Williamson County in 1999. Active in many charitable organizations, they represent the “volunteer spirit” of the Volunteer State.

Why Mary Ellen and Clyde Redford chose Tennessee

This property has been passed down from one generation to the next. Sam Redford built this home and others in Franklin between 1899 and 1902 having purchased the land from what had been part of the Carter plantation. This home holds great sentimental value for the Redford family, so much so that when the 5th generation, Emily Redford, moved out, we decided to restore it, preserve it, keep it in the family for future generations and share it with others. Today we are offering our family home for travelers seeking comfort, luxury and ambiance in their travel accommodations.

What makes this house unique

Staying at the Franklin Battlefield Inn is a step back into time, a slower, gentler time of charm and grace. Built only 38 years after the Civil War, this property was on the battlefield. History abounds. Visit the Historic Carter House and Carnton Mansion. Perhaps a ghost tour would appeal to you.

The back deck and back yard with a fire pit offer visitors the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy their time together. We think you will feel the love that has gone into restoring the old and creating the new aspects of this home. It is not a Victorian Museum, but rather a charming and comfortable place to make new memories.

great celebration weekend!

We celebrated an anniversary, a birthday, and a wedding all in one weekend. This beautifully resorted home is comfortable and elegant. It has all the amenities needed for a great family weekend. We are so grateful for the Redfords and their obvious attention to detail.

The BEST vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family of four stayed in this amazing home in detail was overlooked! The home was simply perfect for my two teenagers who loved having their own space. Everything about the home was wonderful! We enjoyed having coffee on the deck in the morning and at night, we enjoyed the lightning bugs! We went to a local grocery store for the basics and even BBQ'd one night. I couldn't have been more pleased! It was also nice to be able to do laundry and actually go home with clean clothes! The town of Franklin has so much to offer. Many Civil War sites within walking distance (Mary Ellen had several books as well as all the brochures to keep you informed.) The Carnton Plantation was just beautiful and downtown Franklin's shops are so quaint...just loved spending time and $$ there!! We would definitely stay here again!!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay at the Franklin Battlefield Inn! It was beautifully decorated, immaculate, and so spacious! Every room was exquisite and welcoming. Franklin is an adorable town close enough to Nashville but in a country setting and this home was the perfect place to stay while visiting there! We highly recommend it and can't wait to return.

Perfect Historic Getaway House in Franklin

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at Franklin Battlefield Inn over Mother's Day weekend. Mary Ellen was incredibly helpful and quick to respond to all of our questions. The FBI is within walking distance to this historic Carter House and Lotz House, as well as downtown Franklin. The house was immaculate and no detail was left undone. We also really enjoyed spending our evenings playing cards on the back deck. We would highly recommend the Franklin Battlefield Inn and are already looking forward to our next stay there!

Beautiful House!

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of 7 friends who were originally in USA for my son's wedding in Annapolis and we then hit the road travelling around 3000 miles! We stayed at FBI for two nights- wasn't long enough! Gorgeous house with every amenity you could need. Great location for the pretty town of Franklin. Loved the rocking chairs on the front porch! The decking area was fab as we bbq'd both nights. All the linens and towels were lovely. Mary Ellen came to see us which was great to meet her! Would love to go back for longer one day! Would thoroughly recommend. And only about 20 mins from Nashville!!
