This is the ideal place to have the quintessential experience of living like a local in San Francisco. Have a nice cup of coffee in the morning with the Cable Car bell sound outside your window. I love San Francisco. I grew up here. I enjoy taking a bike ride or run, and eating at our great local restaurants.
Mike & Amy purchased this apartment in 1997
It is centrally located. You can walk every where, or take public transit. Our world famous cable car is just right outside of the building.
Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Financial District are all within an easy 20 minutes walk, or take the Cable Car.
This was pricey, but the location was great. The cable car is right outside and the bus just around the corner. We used all the different transportation during our stay and even used Uber to get to and from the Golden Gate Park - (the bus would take 50 min so we opted for 20 min with Uber) Very safe area and the unit was as described. The Master bed was softer and the 2nd bedroom had a firmer mattress. 2 flights of stairs very easy. There is no Air conditioner but we opened the windows and was very comfortable. The only down side is the noise from the other apartments the walls are Very thin. But that is to be expected in the City. Wifi was good but was not able to work the TV. Over all this is a great unit if you can afford it. Thanks Mike and Amy for your hospitality!
Convenient cable car stop right out the door. Walked down hills often but usually opted for cable car up to apartment.
Everything that you ever wanted in a vacation rental....very pricey, but a lot was included. Asked for a fan to sleep with and like magic it was delivered. Two blocks from China Town for fresh fruit and vegetables and meat. Right on the bus and trolley line, but you could walk to the pier 39 and Lombard St. in 15 min. Area seemed safe and not littered or graffiti. Two transit passes were included as well as internet and Netflicks. Easy access to get keys and return keys. Third floor walk up was a little rough for two 70 yr olds.... grandchildren had no problem . No noise as the apartment did not face the street and there was plenty of fresh air and cross breeze. Washer and dryer were wonderful. Provided items were dishes ,silverware, glasses, coffee filters, trash bags, dishwasher tabs, laundry detergent, tin foil, plastic wrap salt and pepper and various spices . Cooking was easy on a gourmet chef set of pots and pans (no baking items provided) We made cookies in skillets. Two queen beds were comfortable...one soft and the other firmer, all smelled fresh and clean. Sofa in livingoom was a comfortable pull out. Would recommend to all who could climb the steps. Thank you Mike for being such a good host.
I rented this unit after my reservation on another online rental site cancelled our reservation at the last minute. I was traveling to San Francisco for a business conference, and decided to bring my family (wife, mother, and son) to make a partial vacation out of my trip. I selected this unit after reading the reviews on VRBO, even though it cost a bit more than I wanted to spend on accommodations for the trip. Upon arriving to the unit, we had no trouble accessing the building with the owner's instructions. Similar to another reviewer's experience, the smell in the lobby was somewhat off-putting (moth balls, maybe?), but once we accessed the unit, the smell disappeared. My first impressions of the unit was that it was small but clean, and had new, high-end finishes and appliances. The 2 clipper cards provided by the owner were put to good use on the cable cars, street cars, and buses (although note that they do NOT work on the ferries from Tiburon or Sausalito - you still need to buy tickets for those). By far, the best thing about this unit was its location. It was within walking distance to Chinatown and North Beach, and a short cable car or bus ride to the Financial District (where my conference was located). The location alone makes this unit well worth its price. The owner (Mike) was helpful and communicative throughout our stay. He quickly delivered a coffee maker to us upon request, and promptly responded to all of my texts. I would definitely stay here again.
The apartment was very up to date, with newly renovated bathrooms as Mike described. The beds were very comfortable; this is important to me because I'm a light sleeper. The location is really terrific (if you don't mind hills!) and public transportation by cable car or muni bus is very accessible. We really appreciated that Mike left a transit card for our usage so rides were free. My only quibble was the wifi was practically nonexistent when we were there. As a result we used up all the data in our plan and our sons are now driving cross country (from CA to NJ) and need the data. Mike did give us another wifi address and that helped a little. Also, bedrooms have no mirrors - only the bathrooms do which is a bit inconvenient. This is easily rectified, however. Speaking of bathrooms, two bathrooms are a huge plus! Also, we really appreciated how Mike was flexible with check in and check out times. The apartment really deserves the 5 star rating I gave it and I would stay there again! It's really quite lovely and perfect for a stay in SF - close to little Italy and Chinatown and it's possible to walk to the Marina. Views on the street are beautiful.
The most wonderful VRBO we have ever stayed in. The owner is immediately available & assisted us with technical problems with the fridge & TV, (due to our lack of technical savvy, not a problem with the appliances). The Cable car stop is in front of the condo. The greatest bonus is the included transit passes. A single bus/rail trip is $2.25 & single cable car ride is $7. We used this on a daily basis, combining rail, bus & trolly multiple times. The central location allowed us to explore every neighborhood, with ease. It's so close to Fisherman's Wharf that we went there frequently. The condo is well appointed with high end appliances, washer & dryer, TV, Netflix, wifi, well stocked with paper towel, Kleenex, spices, even umbrellas & ponchos, (which we fortunately didn't need). The bed is very comfortable with high end linens. The 2 bathrooms are totally updated, with great water pressure & plenty of towels, even a hair dryer. The condo is very clean & very quiet. The only negative is 2 very long flights of stairs, but we are in our mid-60s & managed to get our luggage up & down. It was so worth that slight negative. It would not be appropriate for "elderly" or disabled persons. Thank you, Mike & Amy. Your condo is wonderful.
