Why Sue N Tyson chose Cannobio
The views say it all; look left from our villa, you see the Swiss Alps & beyond. On a clear day you can see Ascona in Switzerlans and even Locarno at the head of the lake. Look directly opposite, you have sunrise or moonlight on the lake! Occasional early morning mists and sudden sunbeams offer you a magical moment. If you glance right, you espy the beautiful lakeside villages of Luino and Macagno. Firework displays from the other side of the lake are often seen from the Villa!
What makes this Villa unique
A sense of history and craft is infused in our old stone Italian villa. Originally built on an old Italian vineyard by European Artisan Designer, you will see antique Odessa tiles set into villa's structure, also original owner's handcrafted Ravenna mosaics. The landscaped assymetric garden, remininscent of a story tale offers hazelnut bushes, scented wisteria, sunny Mimosa trees and old roses. Easy access from Milan, the villa offers you, your family and friends a great opportunity to enjoy Alpine vistas, lake views, clear and refreshing Mountain air with easy access to hiking, biking, boating, watersports and plenty of scenic places to visit, to recharge and relax. Total Serenity and Calm!

Great, unique property set high above Lake Maggiore with incredible views from all three bedrooms and the sun terace. Drive up to the house is steep and winding but you soon get used to it. Only draw back is no dishwasher but all other appliances are provided. Would highly recommend for a relaxing holiday.
Great location for the lakes
What a wonderful, flexible villa with the most stunning views come sun or storm! Excellent walks into the hills and swimming in the lake. Not for those with mobility issues but great otherwise, would love to stay again.
Wonderful views - very peaceful
We loved Julian and Sue’s villa, which is in a stunning location, with beautiful views of the lake. The villa is very comfortable and quiet, well-appointed and spotlessly clean. It is also very professionally managed.
The only thing people should be aware of is the very precarious drive in from the main road, and the steep, twisting drive up to the villa, and also the very scary exit from the drive back out onto the main road, adjacent to a bend. There are also 32 steep steps up from the car to the villa which was tricky with bags and suitcases - but good exercise! Anyone less fit than us might find that a challenge.
We love walking - everywhere - so were a bit disappointed that there is absolutely no possibility of walking anywhere from the villa itself, due to the entrance being on a very fast main road, with no pavements, for several miles. However, once in Connonio or Oggebio there are nice walking trails - but you have to drive to get there.
The area is absolutely beautiful - especially in the glorious Italian sunshine.
Dear Julia, many thanks for your review of our villa beside the lake. It sounds like you had a great holiday! Yes the road up to the villa is steep (which is mentioned in the property description - as are the steps :)). One point to note is that there are actually some lovely walks available directly from the villa, if you turn left up the hill from the villa entrance. This way you can walk to both Cannobio & Cannero through the forest! The route to Cannero goes via a lovely 14th century church, whereas the walk to Cannobio has a nice waterfall and great views across the lake.
Perfect location and spectacular views
The house was everything that was advertised and more - the photos don't do the view of the lake justice! Although the drive up to the house and the steps aren't for the faint-hearted, we soon got the hang of it and it is well worth it for the amazing views from all of the bedrooms and the living area. The location is superb, close to the beautiful town of Cannobio, with one of the best beach areas on the lake, and an easy drive to the Swiss border. There were 3 adults and 2 children in our group and the house was big enough for all of us, and our boys particularly enjoyed walking down to the small beach area at the bottom of the road for an afternoon dip after a day's sightseeing. Check-in and Check-out were easy, and Eugenia keep in contact with us during our stay to make sure we were at home. Our boys voted this our best holiday ever, and the house with the best view ever - after 11 years of Owners Direct properties, that is a big complement.
Fantastic views of the lake
Amazing location with fantastic views of the lake from both balconies (and the double bedroom). We spent most evenings sitting with a glass of wine watching the world go by. Property was well equipped and clean. Owner supplied basic soaps and cleaning materials which was great. Nice bathrooms. Beds very comfortable. A car is required to get to shops and restaurants but there are some wonderful walks in the woods behind the house. Cannobio is a gem. Good market, restaurants, swimming, all in a beautiful car free town. And Cannero Riviera is also lovely. Would stay again.
Paradise upon the hill
My wife and I shared this amazing home on the hill for a week and were completely blown away with the hospitality, comfort and ease of getting to the house and all within it. The view is outstanding with a short walk to the waters edge.
There are amazing restaurants in both directions along the mountain road and a short two hour train ride gets you into Milan without any driving .
Talk to the locals about where they dine and follow their instructions and you will have an fantastic outing - enjoy
Kick back and relax on the balcony of this charming villa overlooking Lake Maggiore, listen to the mountain brook running down the side of the garden, perhaps try some prosecco bought from the local wine store at the bottom of the hill or visit one of the picturesque italian lake side villages, Cannobio and Cannero Riviera are the closest, just 3min drive away. Take a ferry ride across the lake or down to the famous Boromeo islands, or drive into the lush alpine forest where you can walk along mountain streams and marvel at the magnificent snow covered peaks. For the adventurous, there is sailing, water skiing, canoeing, boat hire and diving. Cycling is popular, but roads are narrow. The villa is accessed via a steep private road so cycling home is only possible for the experienced cyclist! Golf and horse riding is found in nearby Verbania
