Overview

About the property

3 bedroom 2 bathroom Lakeside/Alps view villa, garden & patios. Sleeps up to 6

This lovely 3 bed independent secluded villa is nestled in the hillside beside Lake Maggiore in the famous Italian Lakes region of Northern Italy. Just 40 mins drive from Malpensa Airport, the villa is on two floors, approximately 150m from the lake with panoramic views of the lake & nearby Swiss Alps. Balconies with breathtaking views are available from the living room and all bedrooms. Central heating is available in all rooms and there is free Wifi.

Semi-covered Parking is available for 2 cars next to the villa. Note that the house is accessed via a steep road and there are 38 steps leading from the parking area up to the house so this villa is not suitable for those with walking disabilities.

Upper floor: 1 double bedroom with balcony, fully equipped kitchen, shower room/toilet, living room and balcony. French Doors lead to an al fresco dining area beside a mountain stream.

Downstairs: two large double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom. All bedrooms have direct access to a balcony overlooking the lake.

Outside is a second, large paved patio again overlooking the lake, perfect for evening drinks and dinner. Full Moon nights show the mountains mirrored in the lake! At the back of the villa is a private flowering terraced garden on 3 levels with a mountain stream running down one side. The lake is about 150m away with a small beach at the end of the road. The pretty villages of Cannobio and Cannero Riviera are both just 3 minutes by car, or a 20 mins walk through the hills. Also a charming old family owned & run "Osteria" serving traditional local fare is just 5 minutes walk from villa.

Activities include sailing and watersports on the lake, and there are walking & cycling paths directly from the house and also in the magnificent mountain forests surrounding the lake.

LOCATION: This independent villa is located on Lake Maggiore, the second largest of the Italian Lakes. It has a mild climate from April to October, despite being close to the Swiss border and the Swiss and Italian Alps. Snow can occur from late November to mid March when snow tyres/snow chains are recommended (please check the Italian laws as there are times when having snow chains in your car is mandatory for all of North Italy) . Please check the weather forecast before departing.

The villa has spectacular views over the lake, and there is the sound of the mountain stream outside the kitchen window.

The house is not overlooked and offers peace and serenity to all who visit. There are many good restaurants and cafes in the villages along the lake, as well as historic buildings, churches and museums nearby. Walking or cycling in the mountain forest is unparalleled with waterfalls and snow covered peaks

Notes: The villa has recently been re-furbished to retain its traditional stone style but with modern flair and conveniences. The house has new wiring throughout and a new boiler, so plenty of hot water and central heating!

The garden is on a steep hillside and has paved and unpaved access paths with great views of the lake. The gates are locked for safety, but guests can ask for the gates to be unlocked. But note that the paths can be slippery and overgrown. There is also a steep, fast running stream at the side of the garden which is not fenced off beyond the access gates. Guests must bear these items in mind before requesting use of the garden and do so at their own risk, especially if allowing access for children. Children MUST be supervised at all times.

The county town of Verbania is a 20 min drive along the lake, offering every ammenity. The Swiss border and Swiss lakeside towns such Brissagio are just 15 mins north of the villa. Also, from Cannobio, you can take the Val Cannobino up through the magnificent Parc Grande. The nice Ski resorts of Macugnaga (Italy) and Bosco Durin(Switzerland are just 1hr 15 mins drive away.

About Sue N Tyson

We are private individuals who fell in love with this part of Italy whilst travelling on holiday from Switzerland. We use the Villa for familly holidays but also want others to experience this charming area for themselves.

Susan is a Jewelry and interior designer/maker/artisan, linguist (English, French, German, learning Italian!), who

loves Wildlife, Nature & Animal & Eco Conservation as well as Music & Performing Arts.

Motto: 'Do as You would be Done by'

Sue N Tyson purchased this villa in 2010

Why Sue N Tyson chose Cannobio

The views say it all; look left from our villa, you see the Swiss Alps & beyond. On a clear day you can see Ascona in Switzerlans and even Locarno at the head of the lake.

Look directly opposite, you have sunrise or moonlight on the lake!

Occasional early morning mists and sudden sunbeams offer you a magical moment.

If you glance right, you espy the beautiful lakeside villages of Luino and Macagno. Firework displays from the other side of the lake are often seen from the Villa!

What makes this villa unique

A sense of history and craft is infused in our old stone Italian villa.

Originally built on an old Italian vineyard by European Artisan Designer, you will see antique Odessa tiles set into villa's structure, also original owner's handcrafted Ravenna mosaics. Handpainted Mural in interior.

The landscaped assymetric garden, remininscent of a story tale offers hazelnut bushes, scented wisteria, sunny Mimosa trees and old roses.

Easy access from Milan, the villa offers you, your family and friends a great opportunity to enjoy Alpine vistas, lake views, clear and refreshing Mountain air with easy access to hiking, biking, boating, watersports and plenty of scenic places to visit, to recharge and relax. Total Serenity and Calm!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Liebe Familie Tyson,

We spent a lovely time in your villa on Lago Maggiore. Your house was very clean and very well kitted out, there was everything we needed. The view out to the lake is really fabulous and the new bathroom has been transformed beautifully. It was actually too cold for that time of the year and we couldnt sit outside unfortunately. But we did have several sunny days and it hardly rained.

We undertook a lot whilst we were there and the countryside, the Nature and the walking trails towards Cannero, Cannobio, and Vale Cannobino are wonderful!

Perfect location and spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

The house was everything that was advertised and more - the photos don't do the view of the lake justice! Although the drive up to the house and the steps aren't for the faint-hearted, we soon got the hang of it and it is well worth it for the amazing views from all of the bedrooms and the living area. The location is superb, close to the beautiful town of Cannobio, with one of the best beach areas on the lake, and an easy drive to the Swiss border. There were 3 adults and 2 children in our group and the house was big enough for all of us, and our boys particularly enjoyed walking down to the small beach area at the bottom of the road for an afternoon dip after a day's sightseeing. Check-in and Check-out were easy, and Eugenia keep in contact with us during our stay to make sure we were at home. Our boys voted this our best holiday ever, and the house with the best view ever - after 11 years of Owners Direct properties, that is a big complement.

Paradise upon the hill

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I shared this amazing home on the hill for a week and were completely blown away with the hospitality, comfort and ease of getting to the house and all within it. The view is outstanding with a short walk to the waters edge.

There are amazing restaurants in both directions along the mountain road and a short two hour train ride gets you into Milan without any driving .

Talk to the locals about where they dine and follow their instructions and you will have an fantastic outing - enjoy

Fantastic views of the lake

  • 4 of 5

Amazing location with fantastic views of the lake from both balconies (and the double bedroom). We spent most evenings sitting with a glass of wine watching the world go by. Property was well equipped and clean. Owner supplied basic soaps and cleaning materials which was great. Nice bathrooms. Beds very comfortable. A car is required to get to shops and restaurants but there are some wonderful walks in the woods behind the house. Cannobio is a gem. Good market, restaurants, swimming, all in a beautiful car free town. And Cannero Riviera is also lovely. Would stay again.

Ideally Located, Very Comfortable Villa

  • 5 of 5

My young adult daughters and I stayed in this villa for five nights in late June/early July. This was our first visit to the region and this was the perfect place for us to stay. The villa is very comfortable and well-appointed. The arrangements the owners have put in place to meet their guests are easy to follow. Their agent is very friendly, helpful and easy to contact if needs be. The check out process is similarly quick, easy and hassle-free.

The villa affords splendid views of the lake which one could never tire of. While the villa is set up high enough to get that view and good sun exposure you can walk down the driveway to a small beach for a swim in the lake in five minutes.

Cannobio is very close by, just a few minutes drive, and a great place for shopping and dining. The Swiss border is not much further. Indeed, this villa is ideally situated for visits to all the towns along the north-western shore.

In short, we could not have been happier with our stay in this villa in this wonderful part of Italy. We look forward to a return visit. Very highly recommended.

Beautiful and well equipped house with very nice terraces and garden.

  • 5 of 5

We liked the house and the property very much, and we ejoyed the walks on the many paths in the surrounding hills. Will espacially recommend the walk to Viggiona for a lunch at Luna. The kitchen is ideal for making dinners at home, and we also used the small barbecue a couple of evenings. The small beaches are reached within a 5 minutes walk. We went by car to the valleys and the villages in the area, and also to the Alps, which are very close. Really nice evenings and mornings on the terraces.

Wonderfull break by the lake

  • 5 of 5

We had such a good time exploring Lake Maggiore, with your lovely home being the perfect base for exploring the surrounding mountains, forrests and villages. The house is ideally situated close to the pretty villages of Cannobio and Cannero and it has magnificent views over the lake from all rooms! Waking to an Italian sunrise over the lake is something to behold and unforgettable. The house itself was very comfy and well equiped, with all the necessary cutlery, plates, coffee makers, microwave etc. so that rustling up a meal after a long day out was a breeze. And the food, was just excellent, whether from the nearby Osteria, the restaurants in Cannobio and Verbania, or coked ourselves with the fresh local produce from the local shops. We will definitely be coming again to raise a glass of Prossecco on the terrace and toast the lake!
