About the property

3 bdrm. sleeps 12, secluded wooded setting by beach

Great home by Lake Michigan and Portage Lake

Located on a secluded, wooded peninsula on Portage Lake and Lake Michigan. Navigable channel connects the two lakes. Three hundred yard walk to the west onto 10 miles of uninterrupted, mostly uninhabited, beautiful sand beaches on Lake Michigan. Play offshore in the crystal clear waters with gradually sloping sand bottom. Watch the sunset and build a campfire to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Access to Portage Lake beaches is about the same 300 yard walk to the east.

Cottage has a large outdoor deck outside sliding glass patio door from kitchen/dining/living room area. Master bedroom with a king bed and private bath. There is a screened in porch off master bedroom looking over the forested dunes. There is a couple of extra mattress that can be used in master bedroom or screened in porch. The second bedroom has a full bed and private bath. Laundry room with washer and dryer also has a half bath. Upstairs is like a dorm room with 3 sleeping berths that have queen beds, reading lights, and curtains to draw for privacy. The dorm and also has a bunkbed and a single cot. This gives the dorm the ability to sleep up to 9 people. This cottage is great for bringing 1 or 2 dogs. There are two outdoor dog runs giving your pets plenty of space to hang out when unattended.

This location lends itself to all sorts of outdoor activities. Biking, walking, and jogging. Boating, water skiing, fishing, jet skiing, and sailing. Canoeing and tubing local rivers. Fishing Portage Lake for all the fresh water game fish. Charter fishing available for Salmon and Trout on the big lake and world class local Trout and Salmon streams. Relaxing on the beautiful beaches. Traveling up the coastline on M22, one of the most scenic drives in America, to the quaint villages along the route offering unique shopping opportunities. Visit the many vineyards and wine chateaus.

This is also a great time to visit and photograph several lighthouses. Championship golf courses are within a few minutes of your condominium, most notable are Arcadia Bluffs, The Heathlands, Manistee National, Bear Lake County Highlands, and Manistee Golf and Country Club. The village of Onekama, on the opposite side of Portage Lake from this condominium, has some wonderful shops and restaurants. The beautiful Little River Casino is ten miles away and provides gambling and entertainment.

Wonderful Stay in Onekama

  • 5 of 5

We had a girls weekend for Labor Day weekend 2017. There were 13 of us that stayed quite comfortably and had an absolutely wonderful time! I would definitely recommend to anyone and would certainly stay there again. Thank you for opening your home to us!

The cottage was nestled in the trees with a nice quick walk to the Lake Michigan beach.

  • 4 of 5

The kids and us loved the beach and walking to the small dune. The house had all the necessary supplies, appliances and the kids loved the loft beds. Hard to have more than 2 families due to private rooms for adults. Everyone was friendly and it was a charming small town. We went to the sleeping bear dunes, kayaked in Platte river and loon lake, biked and enjoyed campfire at night on the beach. Our kids can't wait to go back! Thanks for sharing your place with us.

Wonderful family vacation spot. Onekama is a hidden gem.

  • 4 of 5

The house is conveniently located and within walking distance of Portage Point Inn, Portage Lake and Lake Michigan. The house is well stocked with kitchen utensils and space large enough for the amount of beds including a dining room table that easily seats 10. You are in a woody area, so bug spray is helpful for mosquitoes. Quiet area which is nice.

Great Place to Relax

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Short walk to nice Lake Michigan Beach. Beach was very nice. Cottage was very well equipped for our week. Surrounded by woods and private. Owner was easy to work with in terms of booking. It was wonderful that we were able to include our dog for the week as well. Also a nice easy walk to Portage Point Inn for an ice cream in the evening.

A wonderful long weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

Spacious, comfortable family home in a scenic, quiet neighborhood within an easy 5 min walk to a small, but pleasant Lake Michigan beach. A perfect getaway for a long weekend with our extended family of 9. Had fun exploring nearby towns and climbing the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Thanks to the Mulligan family for their willingness to share their beautiful family home.
