About Julia Barwell
My name is Julia. My husband, Jay, and I purchased this property twenty years ago. We live next door and we love sharing it with out of town visitors. We are both retired educators. We have four grown children, four grandsons and a dog named Jitterbug. I enjoy gardening and playing a variety of acoustic music, hiking and swimming and welcoming visitors to the Old Pueblo. This is a photo of me with my grandson, Apollo.
Julia Barwell purchased this House in 1997
Why Julia Barwell chose Jefferson Park
My husband and I have lived in Tucson for over 30 years. We both came here from the Northeast and met while teaching in the Catalina Foothills School District in Tucson. We love so many things about Tucson. It is in a beautiful part of the Sonoran Desert and is just an hour from Mexico. This is the sweetest house. Originally owned by a a native of Safford, AZ named Maria Louisa and her sister, Beatriz, it has wonderful Tucson charm. We have lived next door for 29 years. We took care of the house for the sisters while they lived in New Hampshire during the summers after they retired. We bought it from them when they were no longer able to make it back to Tucson. We love this house and property. It has a cute little guest house that we are getting ready to furnish and furbish as well. The backyard is beautiful and quiet, and the house is so close to the UofA and UMC and everything downtown Tucson has to offer. Our favorite feature is the Arizona room with a giant north facing window. We know that you will love staying here!
What makes this House unique
This house is beautifully furnished with cozy furniture, beautiful window coverings and linens, and has a lovely, large, quiet backyard. There is an adorable guest house on the property that can also be available to guests for an additional fee. The property is an ideal central location to enjoy all that Tucson has to offer. Your hosts, live next door and are always available to make suggestions about local restaurants, resources and activities.

Location, space, and all offerings were as advertised. Would stay again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-night stay at Casa Mariposa. We came to Tucson to celebrate our daughter's graduation ceremonies at UA, and were pleased in every way with this clean, well-appointed rental home. Our hosts, Jay and Julia, took every opportunity to ensure that we had everything we needed; they even loaned us the backyard entertaining gear (cooler, banquet table, etc.) needed to host a gathering for my daughter's colleagues and professors. We were delighted by their assistance and enthusiasm in making our visit such a success.
Clean house - Delivers what it promises
We had a very comfortable stay. Located close to the university, there was easy access to many stores. The owners had everything covered as far as amenities in the house. Thanks Jay and Julia.
The owner is very attentive and helpful. When we arrived there was water, snacks, coffee, among other things that made us feel at home. The house is beautiful. The house is filled with artwork that gives it a homey feel. The back yard is large and a nice place to relax in the evening. I got to hear an impromptu concert from the owners back yard, as she is a musician and the group was practicing for an upcoming event. This has to be the nicest home away from home I have visited. I hope to return to Tucson some day and hopefully can stay in the house again. If you get a chance I highly recommend this property.
Great Host, great location, great home! Everything we needed. Exceeded our expectations! Plenty of space for our group of four adults. Very neat and clean! We would have no issue staying another time if in the area. Thanks to Julia & Jay for sharing their rental.
A charming stay
This is the second time we stayed here. We appreciate that this house is exactly as advertised. It has a good location, it is very clean, the hosts are available to answer any questions, and provide many little touches to welcome you. We will stay there again when we go to Tucson.
Great central location near Mountain avenue bike path that connects to the Rillito River bike path. A short walk/ride to the University of Arizona.
