The Larkin Cottage is nestled amongst redwood trees just 3 minutes from the village of Mendocino. It is on the same property as the live-in owner's main residence. The cottage includes all the amenities of home. The kitchen is furnished with ample dishes and pots and pans should you decide not to enjoy the many wonderful restaurants in the area. A gas BBQ is located on the deck. The living room is equipped with a flat screen TV, DISH high definition service, WiFi, blue tooth dock for music on your phone or tablet, DVD player, and a DVD library of movies filmed in the area. The bedroom features a queen size Sleep Number bed outfitted in luxurious linens including a down comforter and plenty of fluffy pillows. Waiting for you outside are porch rockers, a private hot tub, and lush gardens.
The Larkin Cottage property is abundant with beautiful flowers. Care has been taken to make sure that something is blooming every month of the year. The gazebo is a perfect spot for a small wedding. And, don't forget to use the swing near the playhouse!
I purchased The Larkin Cottage in 2006. I really was not looking to buy a property in Mendocino but I had recently retired and came to the area to visit a friend. I saw this lovely property and knew it would be a wonderful place to share with my family and friends. The Larkin Cottage was an extra bonus!
Linda Moore, Owner purchased this cottage in 2006
The Larkin Cottage property has so much character. The main house on the property was built in the late 1800's and originally was located closer to the highway. It has been well loved and cared for over the years. The Larkin Cottage was the original chicken coop, converted to housing in the 1940's for the original owner's son to live in after he married. In the 1970's the guest house was added and much later the gazebo and play house. All of the buildings have been remodeled in the last 5 years.
The Larkin Cottage is so private and yet so close to town. It really is a special place.
Excellent property. Very quiet and private. Everything you need for as pleasant stay. Close to 5 State Parks! Just across the highway from the quaint town of Mendocino. Great spot for a romantic get-away.
If you don't like this place, you must be pretty hard to please. Beauty, calmness, and tranquility are just a few descriptions. Overall experience is a 5+
wonderful cottage to stay in- 18 year anniversary and blessed to stay in such a great location to celebrate. Linda was responsive to concerns/needs, has a great sense of humor, and worked to make the stay a great experience!
To borrow a line from Mary Poppins, our stay at this charming gem of a cottage was "practically perfect in every way." In fact, I don't know what I would change, because there was nothing we needed that we didn't have--a sunny deck, a cozy couch, a comfy bed. Beautiful landscaping and a feeling of seclusion, despite being so close to town, made this a most magical weekend getaway and a cure for all that ailed us! Thank you, Linda!
My wife and I booked the Larkin Cottage for a weekend getaway to Mendocino. Of all the vacation rentals we have stayed in over the years, this was clearly among the finest! Here's what we found...
The property is a bright, cheerful French Country cottage surrounded by woods. Our mid-March stay was perfectly timed to find copious flowers in bloom around the grounds. Inside you have great views of the foliage and flowers through the many windows, leaving a bright, open and fresh feeling about the place.
The kitchen is well stocked, as is the entire cottage. Whether it's the plush linens, the ample natural fabric bedding fabrics, the fresh flowers left inside (Calla Lilies!) of the thoughtful welcome basket Linda left, nothing was left to chance. This woman clearly knows how to put on a guest experience!
The cottage was clean, as was the hot tub outside, and we lacked nothing for a perfect stay. We hope you don't believe a word of this review, because we plan to come back and hope it's available!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cottage. All the little details were accounted for. We even got a little gift basket when we got there, with a card that wished us a happy anniversary. I highly recommend this place as getaway for two.
Mendocino is a destination perfect for enjoying the Northern California Coast. The quaint village, reminiscent of a New England town, has many boutique shops, art galleries, and charming restaurants. Hiking at the Mendocino Headlands State Park is adjacent to the village. The Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are two popular attractions less than 15 minutes away.
