The Larkin Cottage is nestled amongst redwood trees just 3 minutes from the village of Mendocino. It is on the same property as the live-in owner's main residence. The cottage includes all the amenities of home. The kitchen is furnished with ample dishes and pots and pans should you decide not to enjoy the many wonderful restaurants in the area. A gas BBQ is located on the deck. The living room is equipped with a flat screen TV, DISH high definition service, WiFi, blue tooth dock for music on your phone or tablet, DVD player, and a DVD library of movies filmed in the area. The bedroom features a queen size Sleep Number bed outfitted in luxurious linens including a down comforter and plenty of fluffy pillows. Waiting for you outside are porch rockers, a private hot tub, and lush gardens.
The Larkin Cottage property is abundant with beautiful flowers. Care has been taken to make sure that something is blooming every month of the year. The gazebo is a perfect spot for a small wedding. And, don't forget to use the swing near the playhouse!
I purchased The Larkin Cottage in 2006. I really was not looking to buy a property in Mendocino but I had recently retired and came to the area to visit a friend. I saw this lovely property and knew it would be a wonderful place to share with my family and friends. The Larkin Cottage was an extra bonus!
Linda Moore, Owner purchased this cottage in 2006
The Larkin Cottage property has so much character. The main house on the property was built in the late 1800's and originally was located closer to the highway. It has been well loved and cared for over the years. The Larkin Cottage was the original chicken coop, converted to housing in the 1940's for the original owner's son to live in after he married. In the 1970's the guest house was added and much later the gazebo and play house. All of the buildings have been remodeled in the last 5 years.
The Larkin Cottage is so private and yet so close to town. It really is a special place.
The Larkin Cottage was a perfect spot for a birthday weekend getaway. The owner, Linda, left us a basket of goodies upon arrival and a birthday card and treat for me. These special touches made the experience perfectly lovely. It was a rainy weekend so the hot tub was comfortable and the temperature was "just right." The cottage was close to town and a short drive to Ft. Bragg. We had dinner in town at McCallum House and it was outstanding. I highly recommend it, Herman, the host, was darling! I just can't say enough about the Larkin Cottage and look forward to going back.
Staying at the The Larkin Cottage couldn't have been more perfect for me and my husband's wedding anniversary weekend celebration. Linda's hospitality is over the top and the cottage had all the amenities that we needed for a romantic weekend stay, we even made dinner in the kitchen on Saturday night and had no problems using the oven and stove top. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything we needed to cook at "home". We felt right at home this last weekend in the Larkin and even felt spoiled at times with the use of the hot tub, sleep number bed and lovely gift basket provided by the owner, Linda. She even included a nice "Happy Anniversary" card that was very appreciated. I will definitely be recommending the Larkin Cottage to friends and family, and will be staying here again the next time we find ourselves near the Mendocino coast.
The Larkin property was fantastic in every way! The cottage was cozy with a well equipped kitchen, including herbs! Having a good sleep is of prime importance to these travelers, and the bed did not let us down! There were plenty of beach towels for the amazing hot tub, a large grill with outdoor seating overlooking an amazing garden with hydrangeas and other flowers, and even a CD player to create the perfect ambiance. We were able to head out for our day adventure with the incredible world of Mendocino and nature just minutes away. We kayaked three local river estruaries, all within 20 miles, and saw sea otters, harbor lions and even a few river otters. We hope to be back same time next year! Thanks so much, Linda for an incredible stay!
We had a wonderful weekend at the Larkin Cottage! The location was great- you could actually see the ocean through the trees, and it was very close to Mendocino and only a few minutes from Fort Bragg. The cottage was well stocked with everything we needed, and Linda was readily available to answer any questions. The cottage felt very private (it is separated from the main house by the garage), and the hot tub was a great way to relax after spending the day exploring the area. My only criticism would be that I was thrown off by the number of buildings on the property- it took us a minute to figure out which one was the cottage, although we did arrive as it was getting dark which made it more challenging. Other than that, the visit was great and we would absolutely love to stay again! Linda was very nice too- she even surprised us with a nice welcome basket and an anniversary card!
We loved our stay at the Larkin cottage. She puts so many little touches into the place that just put it over the top. Gift basket with goodies, card for our anniversary with gift certificate, wine glasses with the cottages name and flowers etched into it as a gift, plush bath robes, and everything you could possibly need. She has thought of everything. Great location a couple minutes from downtown and great beach access. It's next to the main house but you are fully fenced in and with all the trees you don't even know the house is there. The hot tub is totally private too. The only complaint I have is that would couldn't stay longer!!! You just have to stay here! Hoping to come back some day.
The Larkin Cottage is the most beautiful little treasure in Mendocino. It is warm, serene, comfortable, peaceful, adorable and truly inviting. Close to everything and yet a world away. We can't wait to return when the luscious garden is in full bloom. Thank you so much for sharing.
Mendocino is a destination perfect for enjoying the Northern California Coast. The quaint village, reminiscent of a New England town, has many boutique shops, art galleries, and charming restaurants. Hiking at the Mendocino Headlands State Park is adjacent to the village. The Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are two popular attractions less than 15 minutes away.
