Nestled behind a high wrought-iron electric gate is your refuge in the magical town of San Miguel de Allende.  In one of San Miguel's most desirable locations, you are close to everything yet apart, in the corner of colonia San Antonio closest to the 'centro historico'.  This property is directly behind the exclusive gated community known as 'La Aldea' and the hotel La Aldea with it's lovely solar heated pool and it's two tennis courts, both open to the public for a small fee.  You are located just steps away from Calle Oriziba, colonia San Antonio's main thoroughfare where one can easily flag down a bus or taxi.  Also, on Calle Orizaba #15 is the renowned Centro Mexicana de Lenguaje y Cultura, around the corner from this property. The house is conveniently located a short walk from several of San Miguel's most popular restaurants, the weekly organic market on Saturdays and the Instituto  Allende with it's art classes, galleries and monthly Artisan Craft Fairs . These fairs attract some of the finest craftspeople and folk artists in Mexico and are a great place to find that special rug, pottery, painting, piece of jewelry or textile treasure. You are a five minute walk to the Hotel Aldea and a fifteen minute walk from the Jardin.

Set back from the street on a private lane of three houses, this oasis of quiet awaits you at the end of a day of sightseeing, shopping, Spanish lessons, art classes, hot air ballooning, horseback riding, golf, a soak in the hot springs or whatever your heart desires. If you want peace and quiet, in a flower-filled environment, this is it!

Fully modernized systems make your stay stress free. WiFi throughout the house for all your gadgets. A laundry room with washer and dryer so you can pack less, not worry about your laundry and have more room in your suitcase for souvenirs. Maid service is provided once a week.

Entering your home's spacious hallway, you find a complete laundry hidden behind a door on your left. A half-bath is next while on the right side you have a beautifully tiled and fully equipped kitchen with a south facing window, which opens onto a dining room seating six. The dining room features a 'boveda' or domed ceiling topped with a cupola, filling the room with natural light. Hand painted export quality tiles adorn the kitchen and all the bathrooms.

Up a few steps is a large living room with two couches and a big comfy armchair. An entertainment center including cable television with English language programming and a DVD player . For crisp winter nights there is a fireplace with a gas heater. A plant filled patio extends the length of the Living Room providing beautiful light and can be illuminated at night.

The second floor contains the bedrooms and two full baths. The Master Bedroom has a queen bed , full bath with shower and bathtub . A wall of closets can accommodate whatever you bring or acquire shopping here. The window overlooks a cluster of cupolas.

Across the hall is a south facing bedroom which has a queen bed, a small balcony and full bath with a shower en suite. Extensive closets with built in shelves keep your things in order. Both bedrooms provide all the comforts and total privacy. Despite an abundance of light coming in through big windows and two sliding glass doors, cross ventilation keeps this house comfortable throughout the year.

A broad flight of steps leads up to your private aerie. Tiled, plant-filled terraces with endless views over San Miguel and the surrounding mountains await you. Whether stretched out on a chaise lounge reading that book you never have the time for, or enjoying a margarita while watching flocks of egrets fly from the botanical gardens back to their nests on the Presa, as the sky erupts in a pink and purple extravaganza, your terrace provides the perfect end to another beautiful day.

There are two terraces, an upper and lower. The upper terrace has an spectacular view of the whole center of the city, including five of San Miguel's iconic churches. A tiled roof 'tejado' offers shade in the heat of summer. A table, chairs and chaises lets you use this magnificent space as you wish, for working on your laptop, drawing, writing, reading, entertaining or just relaxing.

The lower terrace is flower-filled, with views over the dome of the San Antonio church and out to the Picachos mountains to your south. This is a great spot for sunbathing.There is a small table and chairs for breakfast in the sun.

Great location and very nice accomodations

My friend and I arrived in November after experiencing a spectacular lightening storm on the drive from Leon to San Miguel. I hadn't expected the weather to be rainy but for the first week or so it was cool and wet. The condo was as portrayed in the pictures except for the rug in the living room. It was very clean and Anne was very helpful when we had any problems.The housekeeper who came once a week was wonderful and so cheerful it was a delight to be around her. The beds, were very comfortable and there was lots of bedding so we weren't cold on those cool nights. In addition, the condo was bright which is a plus as many rental places are dark. We didn't shower at the same time as the water heater isn't that big and the water pressure was unreliable when both showers were going at the same time. The water pressure was great in the kitchen and in the bathroom sinks. The toilets were excellent and you didn't have to throw toilet paper in the garbage but as a precaution you needed to be careful. I loved having a washer and dryer and both worked very well. My favourite spot in the condo was the terrace where the two chaise lounges were .The view was great and the lounges were very comfortable; it was a great place to take a nap. All the kitchen appliances worked well although the fridge was quite noisy but we got used to it. The stove and heater were propane and the heater was a plus at night because it was cool. We used half a tank of gas in a month and the cost was around $35 Canadian which we paid at the end of our stay. I loved the location because Orizaba was very close by and you could walk to Ancha de San Antonio, a main drag, where there were a myriad of restaurants to choose from all of which were good. We especially liked El Riconcito which was only a couple of blocks away on Refugio. The arrachera was excellent; the best I tasted and the price was very reasonable. Also,the restaurant atmosphere was cozy and unpretentious and the staff were most obliging. The walk to the central jardine takes about 15 minutes depending on what route you take and it's slightly uphill. The San Antonio bus stops close by at Enero and Orizaba. There are stairs in the condo as it had three floors the third one being the terrace, so if you have trouble climbing stairs it may be an issue. The small complex was gated and we didn't have any worry about safety or security and it was quiet. I liked it very much and would stay there again.

The town house is perfectly located in the San Antonio section of San Miguel, a diverse and interesting neighborhood . It is in a very secure gated group of 3 homes on a one way street and an easy walk to the Institute Allende, the organic market, small shops,good restaurants and public transportation. Ten minutes more and you are in the centro. The home is well designed with 2 bedrooms with baths ensuite that are sufficiently separate to provide privacy for guests. The beds are comfortable with good bedding. It is nicely furnished and decorated in muted colors. The views from the easily accessible rooftop are spectacular.The pictures accurately show the property. . The very helpful owner, Anne, is conscientious about taking care of problems and answers emails quickly. The people who work for her are talented, honest, and charming . Isela, her long term housekeeper, is terrific, keeping the house immaculate. I wanted a safe, comfortable,well located home for February and March in this amazing city and I certainly found it.

What a Treat! Maureen Cambridge, Massachusetts

From the beginning.....this was a wonderful experience. Anne was very responsive in communicating . It is a very comfortable, peaceful and serene home. Room to spread out. Just what I needed. I arrived

exhausted and Anne welcomed me and insisted I eat. She called and came to fix me breakfast the next morning....then took me to her market to buy food & put me in cab to go home. She did this in spite of me saying I am fine not necessary. Her graciousness and kindness was exceptional. I cooked, exercised and slept first couple of weeks taking naps on the wonderful roof terrace surrounded by flowers and light. There were lots of good books and Anne brought me more. Had friends in for dinner...good kitchen...wonderful beds/ tub. I relaxed. Organic market close plus Benito Juarez park...turned out 3 friends in the neighborhood and wonderful neighbors in the adjoining townhouse. Restaurants, Buena Vida bread and Oso Azul for breakfast...Blue Bear all recommendations from Anne. Other restaurants, tiendas, Instituto de Allende close by and Centro a short walk. I would happily return. It is also very comfortable for having guests. Two bedrooms with adjoining baths ensuite and half bath plus laundry on first level. Ysela who cleans is exceptionally nice and has helped Anne for many years. I had lunch with Anne a number of times and visited her in el centro. There are lots of useful books about Mexico. All the craftspeople who help Anne are very good, trustworthy and just plain nice, muy buena gente. I came home refreshed with new ideas. Cannot wait to return. I love the privacy & security behind the wrought iron gate. People very friendly on the street. I have lived in Mexico before. I highly recommend this very comfortable & gracious home for family getaways, vacation with friends or a spot to retreat and rest. The location is excellent, great views, well designed & the residence lovingly cared a word a home. Has WIFI,VONAGE & CABLE. Tucked away but 2 blocks from everything. You will have a real flavor of Mexico. The neighborhood of San Antonio has tapestry... flavorful threads of Mexicans, international, Canadian & US. Come and enjoy! You will return. I stayed a month longer than planned.

Owner's Response: Neither should any owner have to deal with this couple. As an example, they refused to vacate the property on the last day of their tenancy, (March 31) saying they had "consulted three Mexican lawyers" who assured them they were entitled to stay until April 1st. - no matter that I had a couple flying in from Colorado that day - the husband has Parkinsons and I had planned to move some furniture from one house to the other to facilitate him - all I got was the door slammed in my face when I remonstrated with them. Enough said. Most people will get the picture so I shall not go on and on. "The Owner"

Wish I could stay longer!

I am Diane from Austin, Texas, and I have enjoyed 4 months in this lovely place. The condo is very lovely surrounded by flowers in the entry. The entry is also very secure with a gated entrance to the community of three properties which is accessed only with a key. I lived in B in the middle of the property. This was a spacious, beautiful and spiritual place to be.

The design is every efficient with a downstairs kitchen and half bath and split level living area. The bedrooms are each on a separate floor so if you have guests, privacy is not an issue. The best feature is the roof gardens. There are two areas which are filled with beautiful flowering plants (cared for by a gardener) and a view that is literally breathtaking.

I have really enjoyed my short sojourn of 4 months and plan to return. Don't wait because this magical place books up far in advance!

Quiet Oasis, Casa B

As an avid traveler who has ventured far and wide, I would like to recommend this property. Although I stayed in Casa B, adjacent to the pictured villa Casa C, I enjoyed my six weeks in one of owner Anne's lovely townhouses in beautiful San Miguel de Allende. Close to a fine language school and the Instituto Allende, the villas' gardens are beautifully maintained, the homes are clean and tastefully decorated, the custodial services are excellent, and the owner both charming and attentive. I especially loved Casa B's two-tiered roof garden and lovely view overlooking the city of San Miguel. I so enjoyed my stay that I plan to return again and again.
