The Pono Kai is a great resort where you can truly relax and enjoy all that the Garden island of Kauai has to offer. Come enjoy your stay with us...
I have been coming to Kauai since I was 8 years old from Southern California. This is a special place for me and my family.
Corey Ericson purchased this condo in 1988
Everything about the condo and resort is special. From the units, to the views, the staff, to the amenities and the location of the property
The employees are the best and most caring people you will ever meet. We consider the Pono kai our extended O'Hana (family). Come enjoy all that we have to offer.
Loved the condo, great ocean view. Far enough back from the walkers that we were never disturbed. Loved that we could go out from our condo and walk for miles. Every day, there were beautiful sunrises. Would love to stay again . Thank you, Corey.
This was our first visit to Hawaii and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The grounds at the Pono Kai Resort were excellently maintained and beautiful. There were many amenities available and the lobby staff was friendly and helpful. However, the activities coordinator was often very busy and several times we gave up waiting and left to get information elsewhere. We found many eating establishments and stores within walking distance of of our room. It was nice having the paved path near our room and we enjoyed walking and biking on the path. Having the beach close also was a nice feature. The room was nice, however it did have a musty smell, the dishwasher had rust on the bottom panel. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
My partner and I stayed at this condo for 8 nights and had a lovely time in Kaua'i over all. I found it helpful when another reviewer listed the pros and cons, so I'll do the same.
-Great location on the island and in Kapa'a
-Grills outside meant grilling local beef for dinner as we watched the sun go down
-Clean room with plenty of space for two
-Walking distance from grocery stores, restaurants (Lemon Grass Grill and Shrimp Station were great!), bike and kayak rentals and plenty of beaches
-A front desk staff that was unfriendly and unhelpful at times
-The internet access is free only by the pool and in the front lobby
-The online listing said that the room was on the second floor, which we were looking forward to so that we could leave our glass door open without worrying about someone walking in, but it is on the first floor
-The listing also says ocean front, which it technically is, but there are other units that are actually ocean front while this one sits back further from the actual beach, which was no big deal to us, still beautiful, just slightly misleading
Overall, it was a nice place that served as a good base point. We were a little put off by the listing being a little different than the actual room and by the unfriendly front desk staff. It is in a great location for checking out a lot of the island and Kapa'a itself.
I stayed at the property with my family for 4 days and really enjoyed.
- Marvelous 4 mile running track that starts in the resort's backyard and runs along the beach.
- The resort has tons of games (tennis, croquet, shuffle board, board games, etc) that can be checked out at the lobby.
- Resort is right next to tons of restaurants (McD, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut - very handy with kids + fine dining as well).
- Close by grocery outlets and gas stations
- Shave Ice and Bike Rentals next door.
- Boss Frog for snorkel rentals is close by too.
- About 8 miles from the airport
- Free Internet is only in lobby and pool, you've to pay in the room.
- Two lane highway that connects to the airport. If construction is going on then you are stuck on it.
- I left multiple emails and voice mails for the owner before he started responding on how to check-in to the property. This was not a pleasant experience. I almost filed a complaint with VRBO.com ;-)

Property is centrally located on the garden Island of Kauai. It is about equal distance to both the Princeville and Poipu areas. It is walking distance to downtown kapaa where you have many nice restaurants and shops. The resort sits right on the ocean and has many amenities on site such as Tennis courts, mini golf, croquet, shuffleboard, board games, basketball, fitness center, and much more... the resort also has a 4 mile walking trail right in front of the property which goes along the ocean. Large units, great location, and great value...
