Good place for a vacation

  • 5 of 5

This unit was very nice. The view from the 3rd floor was good, and, for the most part, it was quiet. The walls in Pono Kai are thin, so you can hear people talking and showers running, etc. My neighbors were pretty good, and things were quiet after 10 pm and before 6 am. The wifi was contentious, and it took me awhile to get on, and I had to log on each day. There was a toll free number to call, and they helped. I did not need maid service every 3 or 4 days, although when they did come, they did not do a very good job of cleaning the sinks. I don't need my towels and sheets changed too often, but I do like the sinks to be clean,, not just wiped out quickly. The decor is nice and over all, I liked this place.

Great oceanfront condo

  • 4 of 5

The ocean is about 50 yards from this unit. Since it's on the ground floor, it's very easy to walk out the lanai door to the beach or get on the walking trail. Condo is a bit dated but had everything we needed. Air conditioner in living room plus ceiling fans there and in bedroom. Resort complex was well maintained. Beach equipment available for rent in lobby. Washer/dryer available on ground floor of each building. We enjoyed walking to downtown KaPaa. We like CoffeeTalk (Ken makes great coffee), Olympic Cafe, Kauai Juice Company, and Al Pastor taco truck. Shop at Foodland which is the local's favorite. Staying on the east side makes it very easy to drive to other parts of the island. We would definitely stay here again.

Good stay, prime location for being in Kapaa and next to the beach.

  • 4 of 5

Good experience although we were surprised to find out that 'Shawn Erickson', vrbo 'owner is not an individual property owner but represents about 150 timeshare units that are available at the Kapaa resort. You are not staying in a particular unit that has been advertised, but will receive what is available when you check in. That doesn't change the fact that we were given a 1 br with a wonderful ocean view, great service, very clean, and near all Kapaa attractions as advertised. One problem? Not a serious one, but staying on floors one or two means you will hear the folks above you. Old construction. Maybe the renovations taking place will fix that. Our understanding is that the new rates for 2017 will be quite a bit higher, which will most likely put the resort out of reach for us, but for this year it was a good one.

Loved the view!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed for two weeks at Pona Kai. It was very easy checking in. The condo we used faced the ocean from the lanai and the pool from the bedroom. Very nice views. The condo was nicely furnished and had just enough dishes, etc. The stove was a bit old but it worked fine. We were on the second floor. We could hear others above us and next to us but it wasn't too bad. Beach towels were provided by housekeeping and could be exchanged daily. There are also other beach items to rent. Housekeeping was efficient. Nice place with good ambience. Parking is good, close to condo. There is an elevator also and coin operated laundry. Individual laundry packets can be purchased which is a great convenience. It is an older place but well maintained. Lots to do at the resort but also nicely situated for sightseeing, restaurants and shopping. One note, checkout time is 10 am not 11 as stated on the vrbo site. Enjoyed our stay and would come back again.

Booked this unit but didn't get to actually stay in it... buyer beware?

  • 3 of 5

I'm going to start with my complaint. I was looking for something very specific in my vacation rental and thought I had found it. Booked this rental after correspondence with the manager that I was specifically looking for an oceanfront, top floor room at this resort. Checked in and received a ground floor unit in building G. The room was neither oceanfront nor top floor (in my opinion, this building, being set back one row from the beach is not oceanfront). I emailed the property manager on the day we checked in to complain and almost a week later have not heard one word back. (I had read this same comment - didn't get the unit they booked - before booking so I guess shame on me for not heeding the warning.)

Other than that, the unit was in fine shape. It's not luxury by any means, but the bed was perfectly comfortable and kitchen and furnishings suitable. The property is conveniently located within walking distance to many amenities and the price was good. One of the reasons I requested a top floor unit is the complaints regarding noise I read online. These turned out to be founded. The family staying upstairs from us had at least one child who liked to run through the unit but even the regular walking about was quite audible. The walls also were thin as I could hear coughs, sneezes and snores from the bedroom adjacent to ours. We didn't spend much time at the property so I can't really comment on staff or amenities. The pool area seemed nice. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

Property is centrally located on the garden Island of Kauai. It is about equal distance to both the princevilla dn Poinpu areas. It is walking distance to downtown kapaa where you have many nice restaurants and shops. The resort sits right on the ocean and has many amenities on site such as Tennis courts, mini golf, croquet, shuffleboard, board games, basketball, fitness center, and much more... the resort also has a 4 mile walking trail right in front of the property which goes along the ocean. Large units, great location, and great value...
