About Linda Bannerman

Living on Orcas is a 50-year-ago dream-come-true for me. In 1964, I landed in Mt. Vernon, a freshman at Mt. Vernon High School after a young life of profound difficulties and challenges. During those high school years, I would visit the San Juans often, and remember in particular a high school graduation bike trip to Orcas. Throughout my life travels, I have thought often about those sweet days on Orcas and wondered if I might live here one day. I've worked hard and dreamed sweet. . . and now, finally, here I am. And I want to share it with you. I've taught high school English for 30 years and now have a private practice in counseling. I adore helping others, caring for the earth, and celebrating the beauty of this island and this home. Life is so full of beauty if we are willing to set aside the hustle and bustle of surviving and live just in the moment. Come here to do just that. Listen to the wind whip through the pines and firs in winter. Steady your gaze upon the purple Cascades in the evening sunset, the distant twinkling lights of a city unaware of us at their feet. Welcome the quiet visit of a doe and her buck, hoping for an apple treat offered from your hand. Come celebrate the spectacular gift of life with me here in this quiet and very special oasis.

Why Linda Bannerman chose Eastsound

I wanted a home with light. I wanted a home with the sound of a tumbling creek nearby and the sight of a mated pair of eagles weaving a magic dance in the sky and using the limbs of a fir tree for rest in sight of my bedroom window. i wanted the charm of a bookstore, filled with the smell of fresh brewed coffee and a choice of books about lofts and Hemmingway only minutes from my backdoor. I have it here and want to share it with you. You who are hungry for quiet and beauty.

What makes this studio unique

This, more than any other guest home you will find, offers you spectacular views and profound quiet. Twinkling lights at night. Purple mountain views at dusk or morning. Vigorous walks on a forested road any time of day at all. Access to a community owned private beach, complete with picnic table and bench on a bluff over the Salish Sea, a front row seat at the foot of Mt. Baker.

Perfect for Quiet Solitude!

  • 4 of 5

WOW! was my reaction when I first saw the view. I just sat in my car taking it in, for a few minutes. This is a wonderfully comfortable cottage with everything you need. I cherished my quiet time at Sea Forever Guest House. Linda and Brad were very accommodating, while respecting the privacy of the cottage. I would absolutely stay here again.

It Doesn't Get Better Than This

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent a week in this beautiful cottage on this enchanting island. It was the perfect place to unwind, relax, and be sheltered from the demands of life. Brad and Linda do such a great job of furnishing and equipping their guest house with everything a guest needs to feel welcome and comfortable, even a few little special warm touches. As much as we loved the island (don't miss the Black Bear Bakery, from Thursday - Sunday!) and the endlessly fascinating roads, mountains, forests, lakes, shops, and shorelines, what we loved most was relaxing in the cottage, drinking in the breathtaking views from the living room or the bench at the edge of the hill. We loved cooking our own meals even more than we enjoyed dining at the Madrona, the White Horse Pub (best shepherd's pie anywhere), and Rosario's (best everything!). It snowed the day we arrived, and Linda texted us that evening to tell us the clouds had parted enough to let the Full Beaver Moon show its face. It was glorious! We were very sad to leave, and we will return, again and again.

A Peaceful Home

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Sea Forever. Brad and Linda (and Toby!) are so wonderful and friendly and generous. The cabin is adorable -- the perfect size for a romantic getaway -- and we lucked out with a bit of warmth and no rain. I can't recommend this adorable place enough.

Serene and Spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

The views are spectacular and the setting is serene. This dog friendly, comfy, and cozy little guest house is in an unbeatable location with scenery that encompasses the water, some islands and the coastline off in the distance, framed by beautiful pine and fir trees and lush green vegetation. The weather was overcast the entire time we were there so we never got to see Mt. Baker, but it didn't matter, the ever changing clouds overhead just added interest to the setting. Brad and Linda are wonderful hosts and are very accommodating. They are there if you need something, but otherwise ensure your privacy. They even let us spend some time with their sweet dog, Toby, when we were missing our own dogs! The directions and communications before, during and after our stay were great. This guest house is set up with extra special touches that are much appreciated. Although this may seem silly to some, the plush and not scratchy toilet paper was a plus. A comfortable king size bed with nice sheets faces the large windows with water view. There is a full kitchen and dining area with everything you could ever need, not only pots and pans, dishes and utensils, etc, but also including spices, teas and coffees - even a coffee grinder! There is a shelf stocked with books, games and puzzles. There is wifi but no TV-but who needs TV with that gorgeous scenery in front of you! There is ample comfy furniture in the sitting area to get comfortable in front of the wood burning fireplace and that incredible view. There's even a chiminea out front for an outside fire should you wish to have one. A perfectly placed bench lets you sit and soak in the picturesque and peaceful surroundings. This is a great place to stay and relax or use as a home base to come back to after exploring the island. The charming village of Eastsound is nearby with easy access to shopping, groceries, restaurants and a brewery where you can interact with the locals. There are lots activities nearby to include hiking trails, kayaking, biking, and exploring all of the wonders Orcas Island has to offer. Our every need was met and then some. It was hard to leave and we definitely hope to return.

Tips for future guests about the island we wish we had known:

A lot of the restaurants are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (at least in the off season) - so plan accordingly.

You can walk on the ferry and travel between islands for free.

Beautiful Orcas Island has been called the 'gem of the San Juans.' A mecca for those who love to sail, fly small planes (including sea planes), and enjoy the abundance of marine life and birds, this island boasts moderate temperatures and much less rainfall than surrounding Washington locations. Enjoy one of the 40 live theatre performances a year put on at the Orcas Center. Purchase fresh produce or gifts at the weekly Saturday Farmer's Market. Treat your children to the Funhouse Commons, a kid's museum and youth center fostering education play combining science, technology, music and art. Take a tour of the islands by air or listen to the relaxing sounds at the Chamber Music Festival. The island is home to many talented artists and their works are for sale in the charming village of Eastsound. Hike some portion of the 38 miles of hiking trails in the famous Moran State Park or climb the tower on the top of Mt. Constitution, the highest mountain in the San Juan Islands. Plan your wedding to take place on one of the many fabulous beaches or challenge yourself to cycle the 57 square miles of this horseshoe shaped island. Bring your kids to the famous Camp Orkila or take a horseback ride with Olga Island Trail Rides. Or maybe you'll learn French in a night at nearby Canoe Island French Camp. Visit the Cider and Mead Festival in May or rest in your soft Queen bed after a day visiting the famous Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, ongoing throughout April. Perfect your skills at the Writers Island Poetry Writing Retreat in April or join like-minded women during the popular Women's Wellness Weekend in April. Truly this island has it all.
