About the property

3 BD, 2.5 BA, Sleeps 6, 35' Salt Water Pool, Outdoor Shower, Meditation Area,

Dos Palmeras is a new, executive holiday three-bedroom home located in the peaceful and secluded EE Las Huacas region of Nosara.

Nestled in the hills above beautiful Guiones beach, Dos Palmeras is perfect for individuals looking for peace and quiet while remaining just a short drive from an assortment of popular restaurants, shops, and the beach itself (approx. 3km). With a large kitchen/living room area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a 35 foot infinity-edge pool, this home is ideal for families or groups of friends looking for a small piece of paradise in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste region.

The beautiful and spacious granite kitchen, kept cool by a large vaulted ceiling and fans, is fully equipped, complete with a gas range and a large refrigerator. With a unique open-concept design, the living room and master bedroom open fully to the terrace and pool beyond, giving one the sense of living outdoors. The home can also be completely secured with sliding doors and roll down motorized curtains for safety purposes. We also have multiple safes for your valuables.

The dining area on the terrace offers a breezy, sheltered eating experience with views out to the infinity pool and surrounding jungle. Wildlife is abundant, with howler monkeys passing by daily.

The bedrooms are all outfitted with king size beds but those in both guestrooms can be separated into two twin beds, depending upon your needs. A/C is available in all of the bedrooms, but with the gentle hilltop breezes and the house’s open design, you might just find that you don’t even need it. The house sleeps six.

Other features include: wireless internet, TV, BBQ, safety bars or roll down curtains on all openings, safes, and an alarm system that is monitored by phone by a security service. We have a large water tank, so when the water is turned off in Guiones for part of the day or night, which happens quite often in the High Season/Dry season, you will have water available all the time.

Costa Rica has recently implemented a 13% sales tax on short term rentals of 21 days or less. The tax does not apply to longer term rentals.

Enjoy your stay in beautiful Nosara. Pura Vida

About Philip

We are a retired Canadian accountant and chiropractor from Toronto who designed and built this home to get away from the winters. We enjoy having our two sons join us for vacations.

Philip purchased this house in 2012

Why Philip chose Playa Guiones

Nosara and the people here are amazing. Beautiful town to relax and unwind, you may want to surf or yoga if you are so inclined, otherwise just enjoy the peace and tranquility.

What makes this house unique

Our house, up in the hills above the beach receives cooling breezes and is peaceful and quiet but only a 5 minute drive to the main area for restaurants and shops. Neighbors are far enough away that you won't have to listen to their conversations and they to yours. You won't however escape the howler monkeys who will insist on being heard.

Guestbook comments from the owner

5 of 5 stars - Reviewed 26 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

(from another rental website)

Loved this house located in the EE section of Nosara. Very newly constructed so everything is clean and fresh and attractive, both inside and out. We are veteran home renters, having rented 4 properties now in Nosara, as well as renting homes in the Bahamas, and various locations in the us so I think that experience makes me more picky than other vacationers might be. This house is great - nice interior, great master bedroom & bath. Lovely sliding door access to the outside area. Pool was fantastic and views of the jungle made it feel very secluded. Loved the outside shower as well. It's adequately equipped, not every bell/whistle you might want but nothing missing except there is no grill. We bought a small charcoal one to use as that was a big miss for us. The one word of caution I have is in the design of the house - the two guest rooms are not accessible via an internal door in the house. They can only be entered thru doors by the pool area. This is very clear in the floor plan posted on the website but I didn't catch it so this was a surprise to me. Wasn't an issue as it was only my husband and I but if we had kids, especially younger ones, I think this might be a challenge when doors are locked up at night. Jo & Agnes from Mango Property Mgmt. do a wonderful job, ensuring you're settled in and familiar with how everything works; they're happy to help if you have any questions or issues. Cleaning people, pool person and gardener all wonderful - did a great job while being unobtrusive. We would rent this house again. Note, when rating "would you recommend this for the following", I did not select older travelers or people w/disabilities are there are several stairs from the parking area down to the house which may be an issue.

Comment by owner: the grill is still there and all you need is a bag of charcoal or some driftwood from the beach. Fish, chicken and steaks are fantastic slow cooked on the grill. In my opinion... much tastier than a gas BBQ. NOTE: for 2015 we have added a gas BBQ. Thanks for the suggestion.

A dream!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at Donna and Philip's place for 5 nights in March 2018 and we don't have enough good things to say. The place was a dream....waking up to howler monkeys, bird watching, swimming in the pool to break the afternoon heat; we could not have asked for a better time. The garden and pool are very well maintained and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is also equipped with all the gadgets you need. Make sure you have a car if you stay here, as there are a ton of small towns and beautiful beaches to explore nearby. We hope to return in the future!

Owner's Response: Monica, We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay in Nosara and that the house "was a dream". We love coming down here and are so pleased that others can share our holiday home. Your suggestion to have a car to explore the vicinity could encourage others to do the same. There is certainly more to the area than Playa Guiones. Any time you want to return, please contact us as we would love to have you back. Philip

Jungle paridise

  • 5 of 5

Pool, hammocks, grill, nature and beauty of home were amazing. 5 minute drive to beach, skate park, grocery, restaurants... we did ATV rentals for a day tour, beyond amazing, chartered a fishing boat with captain and caught 25 + varied fish. Felt like we went back in time 50-100 years. Back to nature. If you are squeamish with nature...lizards, monkeys, birds, insects, raccoons.... this will test your limits. For us, it was perfect!

Amazing...a perfect vacation retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Words (or pictures) could not do this house justice. You simply must just go there to experience the awe. Philip was an incredible host that left no detail undone. He was knowledgeable...helpful and extremely quick to respond any time I had a question. We just flew back home after spending a week at his home and I miss the sights and sounds of Costa Rica already.

You will need transportation to get around but trust me, you won't mind. The beaches in the area are amazing as well as all the restaurants and activities that are available for a perfect vacation. It was so nice to have a "home base" to return to....jump in your own private pool to unwind and relax with a beautiful breeze and sights around you.

Our family had an unforgettable time and can't thank Philip and Virginie enough for making it all happen!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Kimbel. We are so glad you were able to experience the sights and sounds of Costa Rica that we are able to enjoy every year we go down. We specifically chose the location of our house to be immersed in the atmosphere of this wilderness area rather than the noisy hustle and bustle of the busy built up parts of the town. We hope you will return again.

Beautiful house on hill in jungle setting.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, well-appointed house in Guiones. The drive up and down the hill and into town or beach takes about 10 minutes, as it is steep, curvy and dirt. The house feels very secluded in a jungle setting, even though there are houses all around. The pool and patio are lovely and we would sit and watch and listen to the wildlife (monkeys, parrots).

Our 2 college age daughters wished we were within walking distance to the beach, but loved the pool. There was something for everyone - surfing and zip lining, relaxing & walking on the beach (that has no development, so is quite pristine), having lunch or dinner at one of several good restaurants. One of the things I love about Costa Rica is the healthy lifestyle and fresh, organic food. The fruits and vegetables were wonderful. The houses are close together and one night our neighbors had a loud party until 2 a.m., however only one of us was wakened by it! The howler monkeys wake you up in the morning, but they only howl for a few minutes.

Phillip was very helpful with directions and making sure we had everything we needed.

It was one of the best family vacations we have had!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. We are so pleased you enjoyed staying in our house and your visit to Nosara. As you were here over Christmas the neighbours were likely in a festive mood but when we stay in the house we hardly hear anyone. We do agree that the monkeys are early risers and unlikely to change their habits. Not being within walking distance of the beach does have it's advantages in that it is much more peaceful than the busy main sections of town and I'm sure the frequency of parties and late night revelry occur more frequently. We sometimes drive down a few times in a day: to the beach, to the supermarket, to a restaurant or some of the local activities but in the balance find the solitude quite rewarding. Please visit us again.

Cool spot

  • 4 of 5

Thanks for sharing your great house with my family. Really enjoyed the way you guys take care of the house and how it feels like it’s part of the jungle. My kids were up and in the pool every morning and loved the pizote and monkeys and iguanas. My daughter liked the monkey viewing platform out in the trees. We zip lined, rented quads for day and even found horses down at nosara river mouth. I was surprised by the security bars, guard and amount of theft in the area but we didn’t have any problems when we were there and I felt safe with my family but was always sure to use the alarm and security bars. I spoke with the pool guys and the gardener and they seemed nice and were keeping things up well. The gardener had nice things to say about you as the owner and I appreciated that too. Hope you and your family get to go back soon and enjoy the Pura Vida.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great feedback Tim. We are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Nosara and more importantly our house. We specially asked our architect to preserve and incorporate the lush vegetation around the house to give the feeling of living in the jungle. That's what we all go to Costa Rica for. It also allows the animals to get close. Our gardener is a great guy and helps us improve our Spanish.

Playa Guiones/Nosara is famous for its 4 km long beach, with a steady break for surfing, its many yoga studios as well as the Yoga Institute, a healthy lifestyle with a varied assortment of menu items in the numerous restaurants and a good selection foods in the supermarkets. The zip-line at Miss Sky is reportedly the longest in Costa Rica.
