Grandma's cottage gives you an opportunity to truly step away and enjoy a time of the past where hard woods surround a beautiful knotty pine cabin set on the East side of Torch Lake. The cabin is furnished with natural wood and furnishings that warm the heart and fill the soul. We've added many new features that include internet, new constructed deck, flagstone patio/fire pit and walkways. When I am here at Grandma's cottage, I am truly back to place where there is no time but the present!
Waqaa! (Yupik greeting of Hello)
I have hundreds of childhood memories of being raised at the old Camp Fairwood from camping to sailing. I currently live in Alaska but it has been my dream to own a little piece of Torch and I am now sharing my dream with you. Enjoy walking in the past amongst the old hard woods and crystal clear waters of Torch Lake. The sunsets will let you forget that there is any time but the moment. I am sure it will rejuvenate you as it does the same for me.
Lisa Hubert purchased this cabin in 2013
Grandma's Cottage is a one of kind opportunity to turn back the clock where nothing is more important than enjoying your family and friends in the midst of crystal clear blue water and unbelievable sunsets. This cottage provides a perfect 'Haven' for relaxing, enjoying fun filled days on the water, and peaceful reflective evenings watching the sunset around a new beautiful flagstone patio/firepit outdoor firepit. You can even grill your entire dinner with a built in grill at the fire pit. Enjoy the evening by the fireside in the surroundings of a hard wood forest and listening to the lapping of the waves snug in the serenity of Grandma's Cottage.
If you do feel the need to venture out, there are so many place to go. Travel by car or boat to Brownwood Acres to enjoy in some local traditional fun of flea markets on Sunday and shopping on on the weekends. Alden and Bellaire are charming small towns close by with their own entertainment, shopping and activities. Golfing is available at Shanty with their own 'Legend' designed by Arnold Palmer. The water sports are endless from snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, wind surfing, tubing, wake boarding, water skiing, and best of all, swimming!
Grab your coffee in the morning and enjoy the beautiful morning hours on the lake. Fill your days with as much activity as you desire. Settle back in the evenings and watch the awesome sunsets that Torch Lake has to offer. When the day is done, enjoy the peace and solitude that Grandma's Cottage has to offer with the natural wood interior, field stone fireplace and the comforts of truly being on an unforgettable vacation. The only hard part is leaving this paradise but we do hope you return to build more memories to last a lifetime.
Grandma's cottage has beautiful 100' private lake frontage in the surroundings of Cedar and Birch hardwoods. It offers your own 90 ft. dock, boat lift (1000 lbs), beautiful newly built patio and a secure mooring ball. The east side of Torch lends itself to unforgettable sunsets and easy access around the lake. On sunny days, the lake has a wide array of hues of blue that are reminiscent of the Caribbean. Torch Lake is the largest lake in Michigan (18 miles long and 2 miles wide) and is part of a chain of lakes which allows boating from Elk Rapids to Bellaire. You are not far from Dewitt's Marina, Bellaire, Alden and Brownwood Acres.
Grandma's Cottage is very unique with the knotty pine interior and furnishings. Everything is clean and spotless just as Grandma would have it. It is set up with 2 bedrooms with enough sleeping for 6 people. There is an enclosed outdoor porch that looks out to the lake where you can enjoy a breakfast while feasting your eyes on the third Most Beautiful Lake in the World, recognized by National Geographic Magazine. The summer of 2016, Grandma's Cottage will now offer wireless internet, outdoor deck with patio furniture, newly renovated flagstone patio/fire pit with walk ways to cabin and water. Also additional parking will be available.
Wonderful - we are so glad that you had such a nice time with your family. We look forward to your next visit later in the summer! Warm Wishes, Lisa & Kim
Great, RELAXING vacation!
We had an amazing weather week, rained, hailed (a lot), just one day. We were outside 99% of our vacation. The inside of this cottage is cute and has everything you could want/need in a rental, but in my opinion, the outside is what makes this property. The deck, the fire pit and the dock. We had a boat with us, along with a water mat, the kids were like fish all week long (in the water, more than they were on land!)
The owners are very nice and helpful as we had lots of questions before the trip, so we emailed and had prompt responses. Lisa called us to make sure all our questions were answered before the vacation. Love love, love this property.
I was impressed with everything ....it was just as advertised.....very clean and well equipped. My favourite thing to do is swim in that beautiful lake ....Very close to 8 really good golf courses and a well supplied town called BELLAIRE.Chris DeWolfe
The outside property was beautiful . . . the dock was lovely and the lawn and fire pit were well maintained. The cottage itself was cluttered but comfortable. My biggest complaint was the lack of space in kitchen cupboards and the clutter in closets. There was no room for us to unpack our food and provisions, and the cupboards themselves were terribly disorganized and cluttered. We rented this cottage for 4 weeks, so we needed room for our own belongings, and unfortunately it was very difficult to find any room in the kitchen.
The shower head was very low and uncomfortable to use, and dripped incessantly. There were MANY signs around the cottage and property about what wood to use where, rules about the dock and the fire pit. It felt very "bossy." Having the rules and regulations in the black binder seemed sufficient, no need to have signs all over the place!
Like I said, we rented this cottage for 4 weeks, and took very good care of the place! Unfortunately, the owner felt the need to come over to the cottage while we were there, perhaps to check up on us? She did it more than once, and it was an uncomfortable situation. When I rent a place, especially spending a lot of money, I don't need the owner lurking about, it's very inappropriate, and I can honestly say I have never had that happen at any other rental.
A charming cottage on beautiful Torch Lake! The owners are very thoughtful and responsive. We had an amazing time with the kids swimming in the lake by day and enjoying the stunning sunsets in the evening!
We had a wonderful time at Grandma's Cottage. The place was just perfect for the five of us. The house is lovely with a very well equipped kitchen! We loved the garden and especially the dock from where we went for a swim in the stunningly beautiful and cristal clear Torch Lake and watched beautiful sunsets. If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful time, this is your place to stay.
Also, thanks so much, Lisa, for being so helpful and friendly!
This is a relatively small, older cottage on what is possibly one of the nicest lakeside lots ever. Fully grown shade trees along the pristine, clean shoreline, well built and positioned fire pit with a good supply of wood to burn, stable and splinter-free dock with a bench to sit and admire the sunset and moonset over the calm lake. At night the milky way is well visible from the dock. With the prevailing breeze coming from the lake we saw almost no mosquitoes. The new deck was functional and beautiful with comfortable seating and table. The inside of the cottage was impeccably clean. Everything is older, from furniture to appliances but all in working order. The master bedroom has a tempur-pedic mattress (THANK YOU). It was a warm week so we did not try the wood burning stove in the living room, but thanks to our kids, the Wi-Fi got a good workout. Bathroom was very clean with good shower, plenty of towels. Kitchen had everything from coffeemaker to cutting board, cleaning supplies to paper towels, even plastic and aluminum wrap. We rented a boat from the marina and would recommend it highly, for skiing, tubing and sightseeing. We had a lovely week and would fully recommend this cottage, and would like to thank the owners for putting a lot of effort into a well run business.

Summer 2016 will have a beautiful renovated flagstone patio/fire pit and walkways that lead right down to the lake. We also added additional parking!
As of the summer season of 2015, Grandma's Cottage will go wireless. In addition, a beautiful porch was built along with new patio furniture. We still have a deluxe dock that extends 90 feet into the water, and a secure mooring ball for your boats.

Brownwood Acres only a few miles North is a unique cluster of stores with souvenirs, light lunches, renown fresh doughnuts, and toy store especially fun for the kids.
Traveling south is Dewitt's Marina along with the famous Dock Side Bar/Restaurant at the entry of Clam River.
Traveling even far there south either by boat or car is the action packed Torch Rivera Marina and a favorite hang out for boaters due to the amazing sandbar and crowd. Great hang-out for the young people. On the Fourth of July it is the place to be to view the phenomenal display of fireworks.
There are a number of top golf courses in the area, Shanty Creek with 'The Legend' designed by Arnold Palmer and of course, Grand Traverse Resort & Spa with 'The Bear' designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Traveling south is the quaint town of Alden that has public launch pad and docks. On Thursday nights they host a special evening with stores staying open late and live entertainment (music, magic show, etc.).
Traveling M88 to the cute town of Bellaire you will find all sorts of cuisine, brewery, and entertainment. They also host a well stocked grocery/liquor store.
