Mendocino House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrroom, 2 bath, 1600 sq. ft home on a fully-fenced serene and private acre

“Redwood Majic” is a serene and intensely quiet property, ringed by towering magical redwoods yet located less than a mile from the charming Mendocino Village.

This two-story, 1600 sq. ft, two-bedroom, two-bath home is set within a private, fully fenced dog-friendly acre of lush ferns and towering California redwoods.

You will feel you are a world away but it’s just minutes to The Village or Mendocino Headlands State Park and its 350 acres of rocky bluffs and open space overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

This lovely home is an easy walk or short drive to some of America’s most beautiful countryside, miles of stunning beaches, hiking trails, world-class wineries and more.

To discover Redwood Majic, take the lovely drive west on Highway 128, then north along Highway 1 into the delightful Village of Mendocino. You will pass cypress trees and redwood groves, drive through the gates and up a long driveway lined with magnificent and ancient California redwoods, soaring over 200 feet into the sky!

The fast pace of the world will disappear when you enter this gracious home.

And while Mendocino Village is recognized for its excellent restaurants, our home’s large country kitchen has everything you’ll need for cooking wonderful meals. The Kitchen features an apron sink, open shelving and plenty of counter space and storage. A 6-foot-long butcher block island has seating for two and the dining table seats six. Just outside the kitchen is a high end Weber 3-burner (plus sideburner) BBQ set on an expansive wrap-around Deck with plenty of built-in seating and garden chairs. It’s perfect for enjoying a glass of wine while contemplating the stars and the stunningly beautiful redwood forest that rings the property.

The Kitchen and Dining Area flow into the Living Room graced with large windows and vaulted wooden ceilings. There is seating for seven and a new 42-inch Smart TV with access to hundreds of stations as well as Pandora radio for music. Bookshelves offer reading material, something for everyone, so slow down and relax.

Upstairs, the large windows in the light-filled 600-square-foot Master Suite provide views on three sides over the gardens and to the treetops. The Suite has plenty of closet and storage space as well as a large reading area with a romantic window seat featuring garden and forest views. A California King bed with a firm mattress is laid with fine linens and topped with a down comforter and the Bathroom features a skylight, plenty of plush towels, a large pedestal sink and a shower big enough for two.

The Downstairs Bedroom has wood paneled ceilings and views of the garden plus a fascinating redwood stump that was cut during the 1800s. It is easily 7 feet tall and covered with moss. A huckleberry bush is now growing from the top!

The Downstairs Bedroom features ample closet and drawer space, a California King bed with firm mattress, fine linens and a down comforter. Its bath, with pedestal sink and large shower, is stocked with plenty of fluffy towels.

The gardens—potted plants around the house plus an expansive open space fringed with ferns and towering California redwood trees—is acreage worth exploring. The property is rich with hydrangea, rhododendron, purple Princess flowers and lilac. See if you can find a fairy ring beneath the redwood trees! Local wildlife includes osprey, chipmunks, squirrels, possum, raccoon, deer and more.

Along the coast, we have otters, whales and seals and we are famous for our schools of sardines and salmon runs. Harvest Market offers a wonderful selection of organic foods and fresh fish but you can also buy direct from the fishermen as they unload their catch in the harbor, a real treat.

Come and visit our very special home—Redwood Majic in Mendocino—soon!

About Susie Edlund

I am a horsewoman by profession and lived in Southern California where I was involved in riding and polo—such joy! I bought Redwood Majic in 2006 and retired to Mendocino Village in 2015. I love the clear air and the slower pace of living here. And since I still travel a great deal, I love to share my home with others who appreciate all that our lovely little Mendocino Village and the surrounding area have to offer, that very special Mendocino magic and the magical redwoods.

Susie Edlund purchased this house in 2006

Why Susie Edlund chose North Coast California

I wanted to be in the redwoods because they are so very special but I also wanted to be within walking distance of the Village, beach and Headlands. Privacy and quiet were very important and so, after a long search, I chose Redwood Majic. Ringed by towering redwoods, Redwood Majic is a secluded and quiet enclave hidden from the world, offering that special Mendocino magic of clean air with a touch of salt from the Pacific Ocean, the magical redwoods and a slower pace of life. Our Redwood Majic is close enough to the ocean that you can hear the ocean crashing on the rocks during rough weather and the seals barking. And when the fog rolls in from the coast, blankets the Village and creeps across Highway 1, we at Redwood Majic are just far enough east to still enjoy California sunshine! Amazing!

What makes this house unique

Sunny days when it is foggy on the coast plus a beautiful redwood forest—serene and majestic.

Plus it is just minutes to Mendocino Village and the ocean, the spectacular Big River Trail and other terrific walks.

And because dogs are special, we cater to them with a fully fenced, gated acre where they are protected and can run to their heart’s content. You might not notice it because of the trees and the lushness of the property, but the fence is wire and will keep in the miniature dogs too. So, do bring your pets!

Come and stay at Redwood Majic in Mendocino soon!

Lovely and quiet home with all the comforts one needs.

Susie couldn't have been nicer and helpful. The home is very comfortable and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Easy access to Mendocino Village and the Stanford Inn is just a few minutes away. We went there to enjoy the fireplaces, decorations and a glass of wine while a local musician entertained. This home is perfect if you just want to stay and relax or go out for adventures. Comfy furnishings, beautiful redwood trees. We all would return!

Four Paws Up!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at The Redwood Majic House in the fall. It was peaceful and relaxing for all 4 adults and our two dogs. The house was very comfortable for two couples—spacious enough to provide privacy but not too big either. We loved sitting out on the deck and having a glass of wine or beer in the late afternoons while looking at the stands of redwood trees. We could hear the whoosh from the wings of birds flying overhead. The kitchen was generally well equipped for those who enjoy cooking although we had to move some stuff around to make pantry space for food. There was plenty of light in the house despite being located on a wooded lot. It’s also a short walk into the town of Mendocino and to nearby state parks.

Our two Siberian Huskies loved the 1-acre securely fenced yard. After a 2-day drive from Colorado, the dogs were ready to run around the large yard and do lots of investigating. The fence was approximately 5 to 6 ft tall, which meant we didn’t have to worry about them jumping it should a deer or raccoon appear on the other side. We’ve had a tough time finding vacation homes with securely fenced yards and this yard was perfect. No need to worry about having to keep an eye on them when letting them out at night to pee. One note about the state parks—the Big River Park and Mendocino Headlands did allow dogs. However, Russian Gulch state park only allowed them on the beach and not on the trails. We drove just north of Fort Bragg to MacKerricher State Park and had a nice walk along the beach and on some trails. It was the first time our dogs saw the ocean so it was memorable for us!

We enjoyed the Good Life Café & Bakery in Mendocino. The drinks (coffee and house-made chai) were good and the lunch menu was very tasty. We recommend going into Noyo Harbor for some fresh fish. While there, we enjoyed lunch at Silver’s at the Wharf in Noyo Harbor—not a high end dining experience but an authentic, fresh and tasty casual meal. Overall, a very nice experience at Redwood Majic and we’d very happily book the house again.

Truly dog friendly home

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Susan for sharing your home with us. My 3 pups and husband thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The girls felt so welcomed upon entering a home with a large water bowl ready! So many sheets and towels, bowls for dogs. The fenced in yard with the majestic redwoods was fabulous. It really helped our foster puppy to detox from the shelter.

The house is very well appointed with everything you need. It's very clean and tasefully decorated. It's only 1 mile to the village. No doggy smell at all. Comfy bed as well. We definitely will return and have already recommended to a friend with dogs.

Charming, clean, private house sitting on a fenced in acre in the redwoods

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Susie's house. The house was clean with quality amenities, very cute decor. Susie texted me ahead of time to see if we wanted sheets on the furniture for our dogs--how thoughtful, and of course! Our dogs loved romping and playing outside. The location was perfect, just a 5 minute drive to downtown Mendocino and so quiet. We will definitely want to visit and stay at Susie's house again. Thank you!

Hidden Gem!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful place! Perfectly updated and its dogie heaven! The giant fence yard was perfect for our family. The house comes fully stocked and the owner is great to work with. Would definitely come back! It is on the small side and the master bedroom is fully opened so you can hear everyone down stairs but overall a great stay!

Fantastic house, close to beach, right in the redwoods. Best of both worlds!

  • 5 of 5

The house was impeccably clean. The house is beautifully situated, nestled in amongst the trees. Susie, the owner is very responsive and quick to accommodate.

Our family had an absolutely wonderful time here!

Less than 5 minute drive to Mendocino, shops, restaurants and beach/ state park. Wooded lot was private and beautifully maintained.
