This historical, pet-friendly beach home in Gearhart is just three blocks from the beach on a private acre of land surrounded by old-growth pine trees.
The Latourette House is located four blocks from Gearhart's downtown area with shops and cafes, and 11 miles down Highway 101 to Cannon Beach.
Originally built in 1892 (the first home built in Gearhart), this well preserved home is colorful with a touch of Southern gentry in its spacious floor plan and colorful prints. Entertainment includes board games to play, WiFi for streaming, cable, a VCR, and an iDock.
Gather in the naturally-lit living space with white furnishings and a wood-burning fireplace. Chat or nap—there's plenty of furniture to lounge upon.
Cook a delicious dinner in the full-service kitchen with dark counters and white cabinets. Inside is an antique dining area, or guests can head outside to eat while the kids chase the dogs around the yard (pets are permitted with an additional nightly fee).
This is a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that can sleep 10 guests (up to eight adults) comfortably year-round, with additional space available in the summer months. Each room is unique and colorful.
The master suite has a queen bed and a private fireplace, plus a private DVD player for movie nights and deck access.
The second bedroom has a double bed, the third has a single twin, and the fourth has two twin beds with another TV set. There is an additional day bed in the living room.
Two bathrooms have walk-in showers, and one has an antique soaking tub for relaxing baths.
In the summer time, the downstairs sleeping porch with screened windows may be used as an additional sleeping space with two twin beds. This one-of-a-kind space has been turned into the owner's family "wall journal" with unique wall art. This room is not insulated, so it is not suitable for sleeping in cold weather.
A washer/dryer is available for mid-vacation laundry days.
For family trips in a historic home, or groups of friends who want to explore the Coast together, check out the Latourette House in Gearhart!
*Please note that the sleeping porch is a preserved record of the owner and their family. You are more than welcome to view this preserved "wall journal", but please do not add to it.*
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
My family from MN were visiting and the location was perfect for exploring the northern coast. Two couples Plus two singles and my goldendoodle had plenty of space. The kitchen was well stocked for our salmon feast and dining room large enough for several card games. The antique furnishings and decor make it so interesting and homey. You can just feel the history of the home. Our walk to the beach was just the right distance for a short workout and we were met by a herd of about 25 elk one evening right on the path....an awesome treat--but we Detoured! My doodle did run into a neighboring yard a few times as it is unfenced but there were no complaints. A fenced area would be great but we appreciate that such a wonderful property is pet friendly. Hoping to book another memorable visit there next year.
Nice Old House. I enjoy the age and ambiance of the older historic homes, creeks in the floor and all. When you rent this home at the beach you have to remember that some of the bathroom fixtures were added after the house was built, its that old. If your looking for a luxurious full tilt bathroom with all the amenities your in the wrong house, we did not have issues with the bathrooms, they small but its not where I like to spend a lot of time anyway. The kitchen was adequate, nice dining table, laundry room was appreciated.
What our family enjoyed most was the large sitting room. Lots of wicker chairs, rockers, lounges etc. Full windows for 360 degree viewing, even a fire place (that we did not use). Some of the family rented other properties/hotels but we all gathered at this home in the sitting room, 14 adults with 4 small children comfortably.
I would rent this property again, the only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is that for the cleaning fee that was charged the home was not cleaned to the level of the fee. In fact, for us that was the only drawback to the property, it should have been cleaner. I'm not complaining about the bathrooms, they were clean, kitchen generally ok, floors clean, but the cob webs and attention to the details of cleaning were lacking.
We loved the home and the proximity to the beach. We lost power to part of the house during our stay and it took 24 hours from the time we reported it for anyone to get back to us. By then I had fixed the problem but it wasn't how I wanted to spend my off time.
As an historical home--100+ years old, be aware that the facilities are quite dated--small bathrooms, 1950's style kitchen, steep stairway. There is room for a larger group as there is a sleeping porch and 4 bedrooms. Is close to Gearhart and the beach, but has no view, though there is a large yard, as it sits on a 1 acre site. Was something different than expected, but was an interesting experience.
