Howard Hughes Mini Estate K0002 - This truly unique multi-level home is a mid-century modern desert paradise, including three master suites, a private spa in the downstairs patio, and a luxurious sundeck off of the living room and upstairs bedroom. The crystal blue swimming pool on the lower level comes with its own cabana and diving board.
Recently renovated, the house still faithfully echoes its vintage mid-century roots with original and delicately replicated tiles and fixtures in the bathrooms, a parade of floor-mounted lights guiding you toward the home, as well as a kitchen with its original appliances.
Perfectly designed to accommodate three couples, every bedroom has its own HDTV with satellite television and premium movie channels, an en-suite bathroom, and a king size platform bed. Out in the living room you’ll have the full theater experience thanks to a 50 inch HDTV with DVR and surround sound.
Sitting just under Bob Hope’s majestic mountaintop manor, you’ll be treated to an unobstructed 220 degree view overlooking the entirety of Palm Springs. The lovely combination of a desert breeze, undulating palms, and an expanse of stars and city lights will keep you coming back to this upscale escape.
Howard Hughes used to own this very property as his Palm Springs getaway, as well as Eva Gabor who you may remember from Green Acres, and Hollywood producer Paul Keyes. Robert Evans from the Godfather chose this as his honeymoon estate, and Smokey Robinson was known to vacation here often.

This could be the worst "iconic" property to rent in Palm Springs.
There is so much deferred maintenance on this property. Doors to the outside that will not open, doors to bedrooms and bathrooms that will not close.
The house is dirty. There was dog hair everywhere, and dog poop In the yard.
Direct TV was out for more than half our stay, and it had Ben out for 4 days prior to arrival.
The kitchen cooktop had a severe gas leak that could only be solved. Y located the gas valve and shutting it off.
The barBQ gas line was not correctly installed and line blew a big flame causing potential injury.
Multiple calls were placed to the property manager, only to get excises, and a drink maintenance man to stagger around and make issues worse. Very unsafe.
We have rented a number of properties in Palm Springs. This was the worst. There are many nicer places. Stay away from this one. Maybe a better property management company could make it better, but it is. It worth your time, frustration, or terrible vacation.
The house looks great in the pictures but has many safety and privacy issues. We have used VRBO for years and this is the first time we have had a miserable experience. The views are great but the issues are also great. We only stayed 3 nights on a prepaid 6 night rental. We were never so glad to get home. It did not meet any of our expectations. On a one way mountain road with no guard rail or turn off. No parking for guests. Stairs have no rails. Bathrooms have no doors and no separate commode areas. The list goes on and on. We were lucky to get home with no broken bones. And we paid top dollar !!
Date of arrival
Very peasant house with very few complaints but massive compliant with the way HomeAway advertise the property's the guide Price is never genuine this house was guide priced at a
Nightly rate of 320pounds so a
Four night stay at an exchange rate of 1.30, and it was actually more like 1.25,
I should have been charged 1680 plus tourism tax of 10% total 1850 and I was charged 2440 dollars massive difference
This house was gorgeous with a lot of history. The views are gorgeous and the pool is perfect with lots of trees around. I love how the back yard is separated from The house. It feels like a resort. We don't want to leave! It is only a 10-15 min drive to downtown Palm Springs and 20 mins to Agua Caliente Casino. Best vacation ever
