Casa Del Bosque (House of the Forest) is situated in Guanacaste’s premier environmental community, Tierra Pacifica.
It is located within walking distance of Playa Junquillal and is near the end of a paved road providing quick access to Santa Cruz or the international airport in Liberia.
The home sits on an oversized lot surrounded by green areas. Trails from two corners of the property will lead you to the beach access or to the extensive club house which has cascading pools, a modern fitness facility, tennis court and hot tub. Morning Yoga and Zumba are offered twice a week in the club yoga room. Mile of trails will thrill even the most avid hiker. In fact, one third of the community is designated as green zones which provide an unparalleled experience with nature. Coffee with Monkeys is almost a daily occurrence.
There is a beach nearby for every occasion. Playa Junquillal, a blue flag beach, is a few minutes away and is one of the longest volcanic sand beaches in Costa Rica. It is incredible for walks, and has a coveted surf break at high tide. Playa Avellenas and the famous Playa Negra, featured in endless summer II, are ten minutes up the road. Playa Blanca, a quintessential white sandy beach, is moments away for snorkeling.
Our home is newly constructed with 3 bedrooms, 2 (1/2) baths, and an artistically tiled outside shower for after the beach. The large cooks’ kitchen has custom teak cabinets complimented by Italian granite counter tops, an island, 2 sinks, and stainless steel appliances and is the hub of the home. The main terrace, dining room, and screened living room radiate out from the kitchen. Upstairs is the owner’s suite with a bedroom(a/c), screened yoga room, full bath, and the “get away” room, a smaller room with a day bed and flat screen TV(a/c) for a cool afternoon movie.
The guest suite is off the main 30 foot terrace and includes a/c, teak bed, and luxury bathroom.
All beds and mattresses are of the highest quality providing the best possible sleep after your day in paradise. An ample laundry room with washer and dryer and ½ bath is just inside from the outdoor shower and gardens.
The home was designed to integrate with the outside environment and the natural surroundings. Windows and doors were designed to capture sight lines and cross breezes. Consequently the home remains cool and comfortable throughout the year.
A short walk from the home you can be at the Tierra Pacifica commercial center where you will find a grocery store, Amigo’s restaurant, a doctor, and the local veterinary clinic. There are many amazing restaurants nearby ranging from typical Costa Rican dishes to French cuisine. Please respect and enjoy Costa Rica’s natural resources and radiant people!
We have been exploring Costa Rica for the past fifteen years and we always returned to Junquillal for the quiet beaches, interaction with nature and the local smiling faces. We owned a ranch in a town called Venado just south of Junquillal with horses and cattle but when the opportunity presented itself we jumped at being a part of Tierra Pacifica Estates. We divide our time between working the summers in Vermont as Park Rangers and relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Casa del Bosque.
Kim and John Frigault purchased this house in 2011
Being from the forest we felt most comfortable in the incredible and diverse dry tropical forest of Guanacaste. Casa del Bosque literally means house of the forest. The trees that surround our home are majestic primary growth that supports an incredible amount of wildlife. In the dry season the trees blossom with intense colors of yellow, orange and reds that always make me pause. The community Green Zone virtually surrounds this property which insures privacy and an unparalleled experience with nature. You will not find a better place to view monkeys as we continue to support their corridor with special plantings. Just about every morning we wake, up brew some quality coffee, and sit on the terrace and watch the monkeys and diverse bird population begin their day.
Upon arriving you will immediately notice how open and cool our home is. Each area of our home takes advantage of cross breezes and sight lines. Staying in the tropics is about integrating with the outside environment so there is plenty of outside space both open and screened. Casa del Bosque is centrally located in the community so it is an easy 5 minute walk down a trail from the corner of our lot to the really amazing Club Arbol which has cascading pools, a lap pool, a complete fitness facility, yoga room, hot tub, Wi Fi, and tennis court. Down another path you will be on the beach trail and in fifteen minutes walking on one of the most serene beaches in Costa Rica. Most nights the sound of the surf will gently lull you to sleep.
The kitchen was designed for multiple chefs with long granite counter tops, a large island and two sink areas. Buen Provecho! You will love this house!
My boyfriend and I had 10 glorious days staying at John and Kim's serene, spacious, and beautifully appointed home in the jungle at Casa del Bosque, in Tierra Pacifica. We woke up to the funny and highly entertaining Howler monkeys and did yoga on one of two screened porches among a canopy of trees with exotic birds. Highly and delightfully distracting! The two acre property is completely private from anyone traveling by in the gated community and we felt very safe both at home and when we left the home. We had easy access from the house through tended paths to get to the beach (10 minute walk) or the clubhouse which included infinity pools/hot tub/exercise room. We explored many of the Pacific Coast beaches and all had soft sand and were clean and relatively deserted. I took 3-4 mile daily runs on the beach closest to the house and there were never more than a handful of other people nearby - nothing like the crowded resorts we've stayed at in the Caribbean where you have to stake out your chairs early in the morning to get your own space! We chose to stay primarily local as we loved the house and beach nearby, but traveled a few days with my daughter and a friend to take them surfing at Playa Negra and Avellena. We all had a great time and found the waves to be perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers. Nola's Restaurant in Avellena was particularly nice as they had hammocks and chairs we could relax on while the kids surfed. Our local beach was perfect for body surfing and boogie boarding! We mainly cooked meals at home as the grocery stores within a half hour had everything we wanted at reasonable prices and the kitchen had everything we needed. There are excellent restaurants nearby, several within easy walking distance. One day we ventured up north of the airport to take in a day of adventuring which included horseback riding, Class 3 tubing, Zip-lining, and relaxing in natural warm pools with a beer in hand at the end of the day. We know Kim and John's house is for sale and were stunned at the very reasonable asking price! We couldn't imagine the house selling for less than $1-2 million in similarly stunning Caribbean locations. Thank you John and Kim for providing this peaceful home where I had my best vacation ever!
Beautiful community edgeless pool and clubhouse. Security gate with security 24/7. Spacious "open concept" house filled with high-end amenities that you expect in the US. Screened in porches where you may enjoy your coffee with the monkeys... There's a restaurant and small grocery store right next door. The road leading to the property is a dirt road that could get sketchy after heavy rains, so you may want to consider a truck or 4x4, but not required. If we go back to the area, will be staying here again!
We were extremely satisfied with the accommodations at Casa Del bosque. It is a super great house, fantastic setting, and plenty of amenities. We are so thankful to have been able to stay here. All the wildlife, the pools, the staff, so great. We can't wait, to return to Junquillal.
Property is in a great location be prepared to see all kinds of animals.. all the guards were great very friendly and helpful Jose,Jesus, Gil, and Alfonso they were always ready to help. Georgina the property manager stopped briefly after we had checked in. The house is very nice and comfortable the only thing I think could be a little better was housekeeping after our arrival there was lots of dead bugs like the place had not been swept and I had to re wash most of the dishes and even some of the linens I took off and washed..overall I thi o the owner has the place very well maintained and has everything you can possibly need very well stocked kitchen, We cooked all the days we were there and never fwlt like there was anything else needed... You will get to see all lots of Monkeys, iguanas and little critters, we also had a tarantula and Jesus was very nice and came and took it away, they say they are never around but there was rain a day before and sometims come out, or it just wanted to welcome us... Wpuld definately stay here again and would reccomend it
What an amazing property! The house was gorgeous and beautifully situated in the tranquil forest just a quick walk from the beach and the pool. The grounds are beautiful! So many wonderful plants and animals to see, from the iguanas sunning on the rocks to the monkeys swinging from the trees. We had such a wonderful time relaxing and spending our days walking the beach, exploring the grounds, eating local fruits and dishes, and drinking cocktails on the patio in the evening. It was the perfect non touristy area, but there are many fun adventures and amenities close by. There are several restaurants tucked away nearby and the local supermarket is just at the end of the road. We went zip lining and surfing, which were both close by, but I think what we loved most was just getting to relax, slow down the pace of life, soak in the sun and the good vibes! My teenage son said it was his favorite vacation we've ever taken and we will definitely come back again! I would recommend this spot to anyone who is looking for a serene and beautiful get away!
As the other reviews say, this place is fantastic for a very broad range of activities, adventures and sightseeing around Costa Rica. But for me, the most remarkable thing about the property is how enjoyable it is to do the little things.....a quiet and nearly solitary walk to the beach, a quick swim in the pool, a short stroll to the SuperMercado, a cocktail with friends on the veranda and, yes, a sip of coffee with the howler monkeys moving from tree to tree. I have been lucky enough to travel to many of the world's finest tourist destinations but I have never relaxed better than I did at Casa del Bosque. An amazing sense of privacy and tranquility. Can't be beat.
There are so many things to do within 30-45 minutes from our home. Everything mentioned above and in our pictures, plus zip lining, boat touring on an estuary, tubing, native pottery village, a 5 star cooking school, bat caves, yoga. We even have local fish/meat trucks that come by every week with fresh fish and organic chicken, not to mention eggs, yogurt, cheeses, etc... Your vacation could be as relaxing or as adventurous as you want. Or maybe a little bit of both!
