100 feet of Lake Frontage on quite calm no wake lake surrounded by beautiful pines and hardwoods. World recognized Torch Lake is right across the street. Very private and quite setting. You made it perfect for us ! Thank you so much for sharing your Cottage with us for a few days. What a warm welcome with a phone call asking us what kind of wine + letting us know there would be cheese & crackers & fruit waiting for us on arrival. The entire stay you were you were precious. You made us feel at home. With our girls and grandchildren made for a perfect time.
PS: Thanks for sending us our little package we left. You go the extra mile !
We found the cottage had pretty much everything we could ask for and more! Michele and Russ thought about every little detail to make our stay enjoyable.
The cottage is right on Thayer Lake and we enjoyed the beautiful views as well as taking a relaxing ride on Russ's motor boat. Torch Lake, which is just across the street, has limited access points if you are looking for a beach. However, Traverse City and Charlevoix have great beaches and are located within a 45 min drive.
We would recommend this charming cottage to others!
If you're looking for a great place to stay, one that is in close proximity to a ton of fun things to do, this is the place! My husband and I wanted to zip line at Boyne City, take a drive up Mission Peninsula to check out the lighthouse and various wineries along the way, spend some time on a Lake Michigan beach (the beach at Eastport was great-thanks Russ!), browse Charlevoix and check out the various unique shops in the area. We found Russ & Michele's place was centrally located for all of this and are so happy we booked it. It was just as described. It was very clean and had everything we needed to enjoy the time we spent there. We loved sitting at the end of the dock- what a peaceful and beautiful view! Russ & Michele were perfect hosts. When we arrived there was a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers, some fresh local berries and some homemade chocolate chip cookies waiting for us. We had some fun conversations with both of them and enjoyed their special family members- the dogs & parrots! Michele brought us over a wonderful appetizer one evening and Russ was so helpful- he provided us with a map and highlighted directions to Boyne City. A couple of the best meals we had were at a place they recommended- Torch Riviera located at the south end of Torch Lake on the edge of Alden. Amazing. I would recommend this place to any of my friends.
We had a very enjoyable stay on Thayer Lake. The accommodations were very clean and the cottage was well maintained. The property was tranquil and nicely landscaped. Russ and Michele were helpful and welcoming, and made us feel at home!
My Girlfriend & I drove up from Chicago looking to get away over the 4th. We were looking for a place on a lake, has air conditioning, and has a boat to use. Check all of the above. We booked this perfect studio right on Thayer Lake in Alden, MI. Russ & Michele are the nicest people you will ever meet. The fridge was stocked with 7up and water when we arrived along with cheese and crackers, cookies, & candy. Russ even set up a campfire for us! Michele showed us were everything was and assured us if we needed anything at all to just ask. The studio cottage was great for our stay, there's a gas grill that we used a few times, a aluminum boat with a nice electric motor, 2 kayaks, WiFi, HD Cable TV... pretty much all the comforts of home with the beauty and serenity of Northern Michigan. We fished off of Russ's dock every day. There's plenty of great fish in Thayer Lake to be caught. Alden is a great small town and is about 10 minutes away from Bellaire (and Short's Brewery) and 45-60 minutes to Traverse City, Frankfort, Charlevoix, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Don't know what to do or where to go? Don't worry, Russ & Michele are both a wealth of knowledge of every restaurant and attraction in the area. Before leaving, my girlfriend had some concerns over the infamous Torch Lake sandbar craziness. We did not see or hear any of it at all! If you're looking for some peace and quite with a comfortable place to stay, this is it. I can't recommend this place enough! We cannot wait to come back next year!
I wanted to go somewhere quiet to relax and have some personal free time. Russ and Michele were great hosts who helped me achieve a perfect long weekend. I wasn't expecting such friendly, huggy hosts who made me feel like I was visiting my aunt and uncle.
As others have mentioned, they do little things to make guests feel extra welcomed such as wine, cheese, and crackers. They even had delicious homemade cookies for me! They provided coffee, tea, 2 bottles of water, condiments, a fully equipped kitchen, toiletry basics, a hairdryer, beach towels, and very nice linens. The only thing missing from home is laundry machines. I enjoyed the nature and driving to towns within an hour too much to turn on the TV or DVD player. I did use the wifi.
My favorite part of the weekend was going out by myself in their electric motor boat on the small, quiet Lake Thayer behind their house. Russ taught me how to use it and spent time getting me in and out of the water. He also set up the firepit
for me so I could make S'mores!
This studio apartment is basically part of a large detached garage beside their house. Russ works in the other half of it. I wasn't disturbed by him working on the other side, but some cigarette smell came through the wall.
This rental was a great location for me because I wanted peace and quiet. When I wanted to get back to civilization, I enjoyed an afternoon walking around the small nearby town, a sunset dinner off the deck of a nearby bar on Torch Lake, and I drove to Elk Rapids and Traverse City one day. I even went to a drive-in movie for the first time in Honor, MI but that was over an hour away.
I really appreciated everything Russ and Michele did for me and recommend their place!
