100 feet of Lake Frontage on quite calm no wake lake surrounded by beautiful pines and hardwoods. World recognized Torch Lake is right across the street. Very private and quite setting. Thayer Lake is 1/2 mile from 2 marinas and the very popular Dockside restaurant on Torch Lake. Both marinas have boat ramps - Butches does not charge for their ramp. Butches has boat and pontoon rentals to cruise the Chain of Lakes. You can travel south on Torch Lake to Torch River into Skegemog Lake ending at Elk Lake where there is the quaint town of Elk Rapids and a wonderful boat friendly lake front restaurant with a great deck for outside dinning. Also you can boat north on Clam Lake to the Grass River and end up in Lake Bellaire ( great fishing lake ). The Grass River is a natural wildlife area with Swans and Loones. Truly an experience to enjoy for all.
Both Alden and Bellaire are 15 minutes away with restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacy ( Bellaire ), gas stations, and many very unique shops and dinning. Thayer Lake is 20 minutes from Shanty Creek Ski and Golf Resort. There are several great golf courses a short distance away. Taverse City is a 35 minute drive and Lake Michigan Beaches, Charlevoix is a 30 minute drive, and Petoskey is 1 hour away. Both are very beautiful cities on Lake Michigan and the drive is incredible. Mackinaw Island is also a popular destination and is a 1.5 hours drive and a really neat boat ride to the island - a unique day trip for sure.
In winter times there are many outdoor sport activities
which include: Downhill skiing, Cross county skiing, Snowmobiling, Snowboarding, etc. Thayer Lake is a great fishing lake. We supply a Rowboat and two Kayaks for your enjoyment.
This is a nonsmoking unit, however smoking is allowed outside. Dogs Allowed
Thank you to Russ and Michelle for letting us enjoy your beautiful property!
If you are looking for a peaceful, comfortable, beautifully maintained property with hosts that will exceed your expectations this is the perfect place to be. My boyfriend and I recently stayed in this cabin with my 8yo and 13 yo. After changing our plans to stay at a local resort, I am so happy that we made the switch. Russ and Michelle are wonderful hosts and go out of there way to give you privacy and accommodate. This cabin had every essential and more. I would definitely consider coming back and recommend this property to everyone I know looking for a relaxing vacation. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend.
Michelle and Russ,
Thank you again for your wonderful generosity during our past stay. From the wine, cheese & crackers, homemade cookies, and fresh local strawberries, to the bonfires, s'mores and helpful tips about the area, we couldn't be more pleased with our vacation. So hard to put into words how delightful the cottage is, but simply put, it felt like home.
This should be everyone's vacation destination when wanting to be in the Alden area. Additionally, Thayer Lake is the perfect slice of wilderness, with its tranquility and large swath of undeveloped shoreline. We hope to return to you next summer!!
We had a great stay, very nice accommodation thanks to Russ and Michele.
You made it perfect for us ! Thank you so much for sharing your Cottage with us for a few days. What a warm welcome with a phone call asking us what kind of wine + letting us know there would be cheese & crackers & fruit waiting for us on arrival. The entire stay you were you were precious. You made us feel at home. With our girls and grandchildren made for a perfect time.
PS: Thanks for sending us our little package we left. You go the extra mile !
We found the cottage had pretty much everything we could ask for and more! Michele and Russ thought about every little detail to make our stay enjoyable.
The cottage is right on Thayer Lake and we enjoyed the beautiful views as well as taking a relaxing ride on Russ's motor boat. Torch Lake, which is just across the street, has limited access points if you are looking for a beach. However, Traverse City and Charlevoix have great beaches and are located within a 45 min drive.
We would recommend this charming cottage to others!
If you're looking for a great place to stay, one that is in close proximity to a ton of fun things to do, this is the place! My husband and I wanted to zip line at Boyne City, take a drive up Mission Peninsula to check out the lighthouse and various wineries along the way, spend some time on a Lake Michigan beach (the beach at Eastport was great-thanks Russ!), browse Charlevoix and check out the various unique shops in the area. We found Russ & Michele's place was centrally located for all of this and are so happy we booked it. It was just as described. It was very clean and had everything we needed to enjoy the time we spent there. We loved sitting at the end of the dock- what a peaceful and beautiful view! Russ & Michele were perfect hosts. When we arrived there was a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers, some fresh local berries and some homemade chocolate chip cookies waiting for us. We had some fun conversations with both of them and enjoyed their special family members- the dogs & parrots! Michele brought us over a wonderful appetizer one evening and Russ was so helpful- he provided us with a map and highlighted directions to Boyne City. A couple of the best meals we had were at a place they recommended- Torch Riviera located at the south end of Torch Lake on the edge of Alden. Amazing. I would recommend this place to any of my friends.
