About Rick Taylor

We spend most of our summer time in the cabin and love to take in a little snow in the winter as well as we live in Florida the rest of the time. The cabin is both secluded and cozy, yet easily accessible during snowy times. You will find all of the comforts of home there. it feels and looks like a true mountain lodge.

Rick Taylor purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Rick Taylor chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Private and romantic setting, perfect for a weekend get away. Great restaurants and shopping close by. You have your own private hot tub just outside the back door!!

The home is like a museum of art work and crafts with a theme of bears and wildlife. 3 fireplaces to burn away any bad karma. Linens were cozy! Family enjoyed the hot tub! Close to skiing.

The pictures DON'T do it justice, it's amazing

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased when we pulled up. The cabin was perfect and had everything we needed. We felt like we were staying in our own home. the beds were super comfortable and the decorations throughout the whole house made everything that much better. It's the perfect distance from everything we wanted to do as well. The pictures really don't do it justice. It is way better in person. We will be back.

Doesn't get better than this!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Dancing Bear Lodge was even better than we could have hoped! This place has everything you need. And we mean everything! From the unique and tasteful decor, to a fully stocked kitchen, the cabin had everything. The rooms were spacious and the beds were huge and comfortable. The fireplace was great and Rick had instructions for anything.

The large hot tub was one of our favorite parts. After long days of skiing this was just the place we wanted to relax.

The cabin felt very secluded, but was really only 1.5 miles from Sugar Mountain. We felt very spoiled and so happy we booked this cabin. We can't wait to make another trip next year. Thanks again to Rick!!

great location and amenities

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is all you want in the mountains....we felt like we were stepping into a well equipped home. We cooked a little but mostly relaxed after a full ski day. The pictures and description are accurate. We want to come back during other seasons to see how beautiful it is. All bedrooms were comfortable and provided privacy. Very close to skiing, restaurants and grocery stores. Owners were great and very responsive.

Experience was ok

  • 2 of 5

Myself and 5 other family members were looking to get away for the weekend and try out the snow at sugar mountain. Found dancing bear online and booked it. The price seemed reasonable so we decided to give it a shot.

The cabin is located minutes from the ski resort which was nice.

It was in a secluded area of town in a wooded area so it was quiet and peaceful during our stay.

The house itself was in good condition and well equipped with appliances/furniture.

The rooms/bath rooms were clean and equipped with clean linens.

Owner gave us the wrong address. We showed up at their neighbors house instead of the owners house at 9pm. (not a deal breaker but probably scared the neighbors to death)

I noticed from some of the past reviews, guests had talked about the hot tub not working during their stay. I spoke to the owner prior to us arriving we were looking forward to using the tub during our stay. He assured us the tub would get fixed prior to our arrival. (the tub wasn't working when we got there)

The patio has a gas grill and gas heater on it. The grill grates were dirty and propane tanks empty. We had to clean the grates and get gas to use the grill.

The security deposit needed to rent this house was the highest of all comparable places in the area. At the end of our stay we were fined for a stain left behind on an end table by an air freshener?

Overall, the accommodations were nice, the location is nice, we were disappointed the hot tub wasn't working even though we were told it would be and the fine for the stain on the end table was disappointing.

We liked the area, but will probably try out a different cabin next time.

Owner's Response: The hot tub was repaired just days before your arrival. It appears that the water level got low and the jet pump sucked in some air and cavitated. The hot tub was hot, though the jets stopped working. The table that was damaged was not a stain, but rather a guest unplugged a glade air freshener and placed it on the table where the oil leaked out and ate through the finish of the table. The amount held from the deposit will probably not cover the cost of re-finishing the table. This is our home for nearly half of every year and the furnishings are of nice quality. This is the first incidence of damage we have encountered. The cabin instructions that you received state that there is a spare gas cylinder in the garage at all times. The cleaning service does not routinely check the grill because very few renters use it in the winter. I will discuss that with the cleaning service

Fantastic Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 3 that rented the cabin to go snow boarding. We couldn't have been more happy with our stay! The home is a lot bigger than we thought. The interior of this cabin looked professionally done with some really neat paintings. The rooms were beyond nice and large! The hot tub was crucial after 3 long days at the slopes! The kitchen was perfect and had all the pots and pans needed.

We have been doing this trip to NC mountains for 5 years. This location was incredible and by far the best!! Literally 3 miles from Sugar and Beech is just up the road (house is in between the two mountains). The house was really easy to get to. We will be visiting again!

The owners of the cabin were great! They were constantly in contact with us and answered every question. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to ski or visit Banner Elk or surrounding areas.
