Cracker Landing is aptly named for the Florida owner's affinity for the Florida Crackers who settled this land. The owner is descended from many early settlers to southwest Florida. The name reflects a respect for the beauty of the coastal island and for the lovely, interesting life the waters provide. The home is situated in the middle of the island, requiring about a two minute walk to the
beach....approximately 500 feet to the boardwalk. Gentle breezes blow most of the time. There are community boat ramps for those who wish to bring their own boat. There is also a water taxi available for hire at minimal rates. You will need to pay for parking on the mainland at Eldred's marina, which is currently $6.00 per day.The house is fully air conditioned, has two flat screen televisions, Wi-Fi, and all linens, dishes, and appliances are furnished It is a two-story house with two open decks to sit on. You can relax with your
coffee on either deck as you enjoy the tropical flowers, coconut trees , and watch the ospreys and seagulls as they fly the azure skies.
The inside of the house is mostly paneled with cedar . The upstairs loft-room is also pecky cedar with numerous windows to provide an open feeling. The house has an outdoor shower for showering off the sand from the beach.
I am a third generation Floridian who has a great respect for the ;Old Florida; style of living. That connotation implies a closeness with the land, with honor, and with a more simplistic approach to life. Little Gasparilla provides a peaceful sojourn for me as I watch the Ospreys fly about and as I often watch the incredibly lovely, yet changing colors of the daily sunsets.
My husband and I loved the natural beauty Little Gasparilla Island provides. We built our house in 1984 . It has an abundance of natural cedar wood on the walls; has provided many happy, family times over the years. The appliances are modern, the house well-maintained and is designed with numerous windows for those who like the open feeling.
All comforts of a home setting while being also close to the bay and 7 miles of gorgeous gulf beach. Extra lot next to the house provides for privacy and room for children to play. If you are looking for absolutely gorgeous beach and outstanding fishing...then welcome home, traveler. You have arrived at the right spot.
Cracker Landing offered my family and me a terrific chance to sit down and do things together that we forget to do in the hubbub and rush of our lives on the mainland. The beach is gorgeous, the bay lovely and the house provides a really comfortable setting with all the modern conveniences yet a sense of privacy and a time for reflection. Each day, my family and I had an opportunity to discover something new and exciting at the beach.
My husband and son enjoyed fishing off the dock and attempting to catch shrimp when the current was flowing. My daughter and I spent most of the time looking for shells at the beach and building sandcastles near the water. The house is two story with two twin beds in the loft and a double bed. The main floor bedroom is spacious and has a king-sized bed. There are two bathrooms and a large tiled shower. The entire house is furnished nicely and is designed for leisurely activities. We loved staying there and hope to return again next year.
Linda was always available if a question arose. Her home has all the amenities required. Very peaceful location.
Loved the beach. Enjoyed the long walks on the beach. Favourite pastimes included searching for shells, resting and reading. Not always in that order every day.
Will recommend this vacation to anyone. Little Gasparilla is definitely the place to go for a home away from all the hustle and bustle.
All we could want without the stress. This is a laid back island house which is loved and lived in. From the moment you get on the skiff at Elders Marina you can feel the warmth of the day seep into your toes. We were met at the dock by our cart, the wheels for the week. Sand trails over hanging foliage birds galor, owls nesting and an armadillo one day. The cracker house has a big second story deck all around for morning coffee, a dandy gas grill & lots of wicker. Very dark at night for checking on Orion.
A well-stocked kitchen. Big dining table, ice machine is tops. Off to the side a nice TV area with comfy chairs, good books. Upstairs with a giant TV, windows all around and open below to feel part of the house. A nice master bedroom on the main floor with the bath right there too. Big enough for two walk in shower in its own room with two private heads one on either side. Lots of cool beach stuff around the house. Miles of beautiful beach. Quiet, quiet, quiet. Linda goes out of her way to make your time lovely and is very welcoming.
This was our first trip to Gasparilla Island and completely fell in love with it. Was just a 3 hr drive from our home near Jupiter FL, perfect getaway. Linda was very accommodating and can't wait to go back. Island is so relaxing for slowing down and enjoying the moments.
My family decided to stay at Gasparilla Island and found this home. It was perfect for our needs. Plenty of beach towels, beach toys, a shower outside to rinse off, and comfortable beds inside. The kids loved staying upstairs in the loft. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we had a wonderful time. Linda was very generous and helpful. Our kids are already wanting to go back. Perfect place for a family vacation.
We had another wonderful getaway at cracker landing....thank you so much linda and Doug for sharing your beautiful, peaceful island home. We enjoyed every minute of our stay...even the rain storms. There is know better place to escape from the busyness of life than little Gasparilla island. We hope to return again soon.
We had a wonderful time at Linda's house. We loved how it was tucked away in the tree tops, and also the comfortable nature of the place. It was clean but not fancy--so we didn't feel like we had to worry about our kids living in the space. The upstairs loft was perfect for our two boys. We did a lot of cooking and did just fine with what was there. It was a short walk to the beach--which was beautiful and uncrowded. It was easy to get to and from the island when we needed to. (There is some junk in the yard, which didn't bother us---but might bother people who expect pristine accommodations.) Linda was very good to deal with. We hope to come back!
