|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
Please Note: Between January 2017- March 2017 there will be renovations occurring in the garage space below the cottage. We are offering 50% off the regular low season rate for this inconvenience and promise to not start too early or go too late. The construction of the cabin is old school and so sound doesn't travel very easily and the entire orientation of the view is to the beach and ocean and won't be interrupted by those working below:)
Once the renovation are done - there will be a hot/cold outdoor shower, hot tub and a larger deck with a fire pit:) This will be for your exclusive use. There will also be an extra unit downstairs with another bedroom, pull out sofa and full bath, which can be rented separately, but allows families or couples to travel together, but have a some private space to retreat to. It will be available May 1st. Let us know if you would like to rent it in the request as it doesn't yet have its own listing.
There will also be a small studio for a local caretaker. Tofino has instated a law requiring vacation renters to provide local housing which is wonderful as it will protect the texture and fabric of the community. We have designed it such that everyones privacy is protected and if anything the romance of the cottage will be amplified:))
The Cottage description as it is now-
Sleep to the sounds of the ocean waves, wake to the smell of old growth forest and the ability to step right onto the stunning Chesterman beach that will give you hours of exploring pleasure, has Canada's best surfing and is rimmed in dramatic Mountains.
The cottage strikes the perfect balance of having the inspiring expanse of shifting light, and horizon, and dramatic sunsets, with being cozy and embracing.
The bed is super comfortable with down pillows and down comforter. There is a pillow top for those who want a little bit more comfort there is also a fabulous sofa that doubles as a 2nd queen bed. it is firm rather than being a lumpy spring pull out. There is another down comforter under the window seats; which kids absolutely adore sleeping in, as they feel like they are in a tree house.
You can make a fire right on the beach, walk across the sand to the famous Wikininnish Inn to enjoy their world class dinning or indulge yourself at the Ancient cedars Spa.
There are great board games, and comfy reading chairs where you can watch the bald eagles and whales. There are few spots right on the beach as romantic as Herons Perch. We hope to make your stay a treasure of a memory.
My name is Catherine and I am the new steward of this delightful cottage. I will do everything I can to ensure the quality of service and care the last owner provided so that the cottage may continue to be enjoyed by everyone.
I have an ally who lives in Tofino called Marjorie who will be available should you need anything to make your stay more comfortable or to answer your questions about how to get the most out of your stay.
Marjorie (manager) or Catherine (owner) purchased this cottage in 2015
We are so pleased that we were able to contribute to such a special celebration. We look forward to your next stay.
I would definitely stay in this cute house again I love how secluded it was, felt right at home, very accommodating and cozy, the fireplace came quite handy as we were there for storm watching, we loved driving to Tofino and ,Ucluelet, Cox Bay was worth going to because of all the surfers but Chesterman Bay has a beautiful beach to walk up and down on, there were many locals surfing there too! I definitely would come back and stay at Herons Perch.
Our only disappointment was that 3/4 kitchen pot lights were burned out. Couldn't find any replacements on site and local managers did not replace during our stay. We did stay one extra night owing to a highway closure and local manager was very helpful.
My new husband and I spent our honeymoon at Heron's Perch and can't say enough about the property and its proximity to the beach and town. It's a perfect home base for a stay in Tofino. Our check-in and check-out was stress free and we found the cottage in excellent order. Thank you for giving us a wonderful memory in Tofino!
We love the Tofino area and promised each other to visit every 5 years on our Anniversary. My husband and I have stayed at Wickaninnish Inn for our 20th, Chesterman Beach B&B for our 25th and now here at Heron's Perch Cottage for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and Heron's Perch is our favorite! The large treed property is extremely private but at the same time being perched right on the water...just steps away from the beach. Floor to ceiling windows give you ocean views from everywhere! The cottage wants for nothing with the gas fireplace feature keeping things cozy and the Cedar planking has that beautiful Cedar smell anytime you enter the building. I love the window seats where you can curl up with a book but also watch the ocean. We highly recommend the whale watching to get up close and personal with the wild west coast! Heron's Perch is the gem of Tofino!
My husband and I recently spent the Thanksgiving long weekend in this lovely cottage on the beach. The location is ideal for a couple wanting to enjoy long walks on the beach (Chesterman being one of the loveliest), roasting marshmallows over a bonfire later in the day and stargazing at night (if the weather cooperates). The house itself is very cozy and well laid out. Loved the cozy fireplace (which does a great job of heating the place) the comfortable bed, and I especially appreciated all the little nooks where I could snuggle up and read my book or nap! Kitchen was well stocked with necessary appliances and spices etc. Just be aware that the living area is all upstairs so if you're not good with stairs this might not be a good fit for you. We really enjoyed dinner at Shelter and Wolf in the Fog and I would recommend visiting Ucluelet as well (if you're a hiker definitely check out the Wild Pacific Trail).
The combination of this darling, well appointed home with the beauty of Chesterman's Beach made our stay absolutely perfect. We could not ask for a better last four nights of our vacation. Heron's Perch is warm and cozy. Everything is well-appointed and the kitchen addresses all of one's needs. Lots of towel, blankets, throws needed along with lots of odds and ends that one might need on vacation. Also, the owner left a huge binder of things to do and places to eat. We enjoyed the Oyster House, Sea Shanty, Shelter as well as some great tours - bears, kayaking, hiking, through Jamie's. The house, which IS right on the beach, is tucked away in such a way that one can clearly see the beach while having total privacy. We would love to return. The house was perfect. This is a special place for sure.
The Cottage is a private house located on a one half acre Right on North Chesterman Beach, which gets the longest sunset light. It is a world famous beach for its uninterrupted hard packed sand, mountains and world class surfing (it was the home of the entire Cold Water Classic Canada in 2010.)
Whether you're looking to catch your first green or you're a hot shot surfer this is a good beach to ride Tofino waves. You'll find all levels of surfers here and like all the Tofino beaches, there's lots of room for everyone. Stretch out in the afternoon sun and stay until sunset. Dogs run free and you can have a fire right on the beach. The stars come all the way down to the ocean.
Walking South towards the lighthouse and around the point you'll find South Chesterman Beach South Chesterman Beach perfect for surfing and often a good place for beginners, although you'll also find the experts there riding the waves. South Chesterman Beach can be a good place for the family to get into the water, there's lots of space for everyone to take that magical first surf ride or catch a wave on a boogie board. Bring a picnic and make a day of it.
Tofino itself is a wonder with its rich flora, fauna. It is where the whales play and you can take a zodiac into the inlet and watch black bears forage for shellfish along the shore. There is a lot of information in the cottage to introduce you to the fabulous adventures you can have and the incredible food that can be enjoyed. My favourite is Wolf in the Fog - which also just got voted best new restaurant in Canada:) You can rent bikes and surf boards while picking up excellent tacos just at the end of the road which is a 5 min walk. Everything in Tofino is close, easy and accessible, but waking up to the ocean view and the sound of the surf feeds the soul in a way that most of us have forgotten.
The Pacific Rim National Park offers many hiking trails through old-growth forest. Many of these trails are on boardwalk to protect the forest floor and take you either deep into the forests or down to secluded beaches. There's even one through a mystical bog. Closer to Curious Cove Guest House you may walk down to view the Tofino mudflats which is bursting with migratory birds, shore birds, ospreys, otters, seals and a beautiful view to famous Meares Island in Clayoquot Sound.
Shops and Tours
A short bike ride, a bit longer walk or a quick drive away is the village of Tofino. There you will find a vibrant community centre with whale watching tours, bear watching cruises, kayaking and surf shops, restaurants and cafés, galleries and book shops. The village is a perfect size for strolling through, looking in shop windows and seeing what makes this little town so picture perfect. Could it be the eagles nesting out front, the sunset from first dock, the boats in the harbour or the float homes glowing in the sunshine?
A perfect massage is a great way to end a long day of fishing or surfing at the Tofino Sacred Stone Spa. Be sure to book your treatments in advance as they are based upon availability.
