About Steve Ferrante

We met during our sophomore year of college at Baylor University. One month after we graduated we were married! That was 45 years, 2 kids and 7 grandchildren ago. During our time together I was a minster and my wife was a high school teacher; now we are retired.

We also worked in the mission field for some time. We spent 5 months in Spain and 5 years in Kenya helping the people there and learning many valuable life lessons from them as well.

Steve Ferrante purchased this house in 1994

Why Steve Ferrante chose Rocky Mountain National Park

“We were looking for three characteristics when we bought this 1923 vintage cabin twenty years ago…and we found them! A breath-taking view of the big mountains, a moss-rock fireplace, and an expansive covered front porch with panoramic views of Longs Peak = wow!”

Located at the end of a quiet street The Joy Cabin renders privacy only 1.8 miles from downtown Estes Park. When some people come to the mountains, they want to relax… they long to spend peaceful hours being refreshed by the mountain air, observing elk and deer in the front yard along with hummingbirds and bluebirds, and hearing the breeze through the centuries old ponderosa pines on this two-thirds of an acre property. Others may enjoy hiking, biking, or climbing while many love to eat out, take in a movie or stroll down the river-walk shopping, eating caramel corn or a delicious ice cream cone! Estes Park is an ideal vacation spot to do what you enjoy.

The vaulted ceiling in the sun-room/dining room of The Joy Cabin provides a sunny greeting for a first cup of coffee! The remodeled kitchen includes a front-loading washer and dryer, a stainless Kitchenaide dishwasher, and all the amenities of your home away from home. A cable 46” flat screen TV and WiFi along with a landline telephone enable you to connect with the world (if you so choose) or you may just want to lie in the hammock and read a good book; either is possible on this vacation.

Two cozy bedrooms upstairs allow for privacy. The larger bedroom provides one queen bed and a trundle with two twin beds. The other bedroom contains a double bed and a pack ‘n play if necessary. The master suite on the main floor is furnished with a cedar log queen bed, a wood burning stove and its own private three-piece bathroom. A vaulted ceiling and multiple windows simply bring the outdoors inside.

What makes this house unique

Within walking distance of R.M.N.P., private setting, beautiful covered porch with mountain views, large lot, no street light to obstruct the night time views of nature.

Great family get away in an immaculate, authentic mountain cabin. Unbelievable place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Joy Cabin in early November with our daughter, her husband and our grandchildren. To say it was fabulous would be an understatement. We were impressed from the moment we walked in. It was surprisingly roomy and in immaculate condition. The cabin is old, which lends history and authenticity you just can’t get at one of the new condos in town (be sure to check out the pictures on the dining area walls, very cool!), but is thoroughly updated with all the modern amenities including flatscreen TV, wifi, etc. There is lots of light coming through numerous windows with breathtaking views and you can often see wildlife out of every window. It is about 2 miles from the center of town. The beds are extremely comfortable and I slept better than I have in ages.

Everything went flawlessly from our first contact (very quick response) to check out. We absolutely loved our stay and hated to leave. We hope to make it an annual occurrence and will definitely be back! Thank you so much!

So close to RMNP!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at the Joy Cabin. It is an old cabin but was spotless and well maintained. There were hummingbird feeders filled when we arrived and tons of hummingbirds buzzing around that we so enjoyed watching. Very thoughtful of the owner/management to provide that. The walking trail behind the cabin was great, as was the mountain view. We spent most of the week hiking RMNP and the cabin was convenient to the entrances. We had trouble getting the grill to heat up and one of the showers doesn't work well, but those things were not super important to us. Overall, a great place to stay.

Fabulous place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place so much we wanted to live there forever!

This property was clean, well located, spacious (even though the square footage is small), well equipped & nicely decorated. Friendly neighbor (year round resident) across the street was a delight to talk with. Views were gorgeous. Great balance between old and new, totally updated.

We could not have picked a better home to spend the week. The location was just minutes from the park entrance or town. The home itself was comfortable and clean. Plenty of kitchen items, big fridge, plenty of seating space. I think we were there 5 minutes and the boys were out playing basketball. We enjoyed the wildlife. I can't recall ever seeing so many hummingbirds in my life! Who needed the park when we had amazing wildlife experiences right at the house...elk, deer, bear and all sorts of birds. The rockers on the porch saw lots of use. The grill was handy as we cooked nearly all of our meals at the house. The boys spent lots of time exploring the rocks out back. My two runners had plenty of running options at the house. Twice we went to town and used the trail around the lake. Plenty of hot water, blankets, towels etc.

Ok, so no place can be perfect and renters want to know any negatives. Honestly, I really had to think and get picky to find any negatives about this place. One thing I would have appreciated as the only female in the group, would be curtains on the doors of the master bedroom. It wasn't a big deal as I just went into the bathroom or over by the bed to change, but a little more mom privacy would have been nice. The master bed was comfortable but felt like we were rolling into the center. The only other thing I could think of that needed improved was better grill utensils since we grilled every day. Seriously, that is it! This house was just so wonderful and just exactly what we wanted in a vacation spot. We honestly wanted to just move in forever!

I read the other reviews diligently before renting. The steps are narrow and steep as to be expected in this age of home. But the stairs were not an issue for our family (kids 12-15-17). Rail secure. Plenty of everything in the kitchen. I can't tell you how long the dishwasher took as we always ran it while we were gone or while we were sleeping. So if it took a long time, we didn't notice.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. Everything was perfect from the first email til we left. Thank you!

Cabin with old RMNP charm and unbeatable view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our week at the Joy Cabin while our family cabin nearby was being repaired. We love the charm of our family cabin built in the early 1900s so we were perfectly comfortable with the charm of the Joy Cabin. There's nothing like being in a place that has witnessed the creation of RMNP and the growth of Estes. The owners of the Joy Cabin have done a phenomenal job balancing the history of the cabin with making it modern and comfortable. The views from the front porch are worth millions! Seeing Long's Peak from a porch swing in the morning and Long's Peak from a porch swing as the sun sets are experiences you will never forget. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well-stocked. The house sits at the end of a quiet road and the neighbors are members of families that have owned these cabins for generations. This is a special place to stay -- with a great deal more to offer than a new condo in town. Don't miss out on the experience!

Cozy with lots of Wildlife

  • 4 of 5

Pros:Minutes from RMNP.Lots of comfy blankets, and a wonderful porch even in the rain. Over the 5 days we stayed we saw coyotes, rabbits, hummingbirds, mule deer, ground squirrels and a bull moose in the yard. Birds of all kinds abound, get a list at the visitors center. Great kitchen, and laundry. 5 adults and we never ran out of hot water.

Cons: As stated in other reviews the steps are steep, Linens are a little tired, but there are plenty of them. It would have been nice to have more glasses and coffee cups so we could have run the dishwasher less. As stated in the cabin book it takes awhile to run the dishwasher so plan ahead. Would be nice to have blinds on the master bedroom glass doors.

Absolutely a perfect mountain cabin

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the Joy Cabin in July. The cabin is exactly as described and then some. We had five adults and one baby. The cabin is north woods charming, rustic but modern. The views from the front porch, with Long's Peak in the center, were amazing. The sunsets cannot be described.

You cannot ask for a better location. Midway between Estes Park downtown and the entrance to RMNP. I must mention the convenient stop light at High Street and RT 36 that got you in and out quickly. We look forward to booking a week here next year.
