About Laurence

My wife and I are retired, & semi-retired, live in Kitsilano, in Vancouver. We built the cottage a year after we bought the property.

Laurence purchased this cottage in 1990

Why Laurence chose Bowser

Driving by, saw a 'for sale' sign on a tree. Phoned the owner and was told the price had just gone up five thousand dollars. We have always been grateful to him for being so reasonable.

What makes this cottage unique

Our property was untouched when we bought it. We've had to cut down a few trees recently, as a safety measure. We fell in love with an opportunity rather than a pre-existing situation.

Casual family stay

  • 5 of 5

Repeat visitors, we always enjoy our stay at Kokomo. A delight for me to watch my grandkids "grow up" here for a week each summer doing all the stuff that kids should do: swim, boat, hike, hang in the hammock, catch grasshoppers, catch-up with family, make smores, ping pong challenges, pick blackberries, watch wildlife, fish, beachcomb, watch a few classic movies. ...already dreaming of next year....

Wonderful family cottage

  • 4 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Kokomo cottage. The location was incredible and we enjoyed combing the beach at both low and high tides. The cottage had many extras for the kids. The beds were also extremely comfortable and perfect for a restful sleep after a day of play.

The cottage was a perfect spot to jump off from and explore the island.

This was a beautiful spot for a family vacation. We would definitely consider returning!

Slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Tranquil setting. We spent our week watching the tide roll in and out. The eagles, seagulls, herons, hummingbirds and crows kept us entertained with their quest for a meal. On our last night a couple of deer made their way through the "backyard". Once here its really hard to go anywhere else. This was probably our laziest vacation. There are tons of things to see and do in a 30 minute radius...Coombs old country market, cathedral grove, Parkville sandcastle competition, Qualicum beach, Rathetrevor beach and Horne lake caves the list goes on and on. One week just isn't enough.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review Kim! It was a pleasure to have you and your family stay. Your description of the life around the cabin is lovely and evocative. Thank you also for the beautiful watercolor of the cottage entitled the "happiest place on earth". For us that's true.

Beautiful spot!

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful spot! We had a really great time, however the cottage is rustic and very disorganized compares to what is shown in these pictures. I would recommend a good clean and tidy for the money charged and fixing the shower door. However overall we really enjoyed the spot and location.

Like coming home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at this lovely house. My grandparents had a house on the beach a few doors up while I was growing up so this was a very familiar area for me. The master bedroom feels if you are perched on top of the ocean. The sound of the water rippling puts you to sleep like a baby!

We are already planning our next visit!

Easter in Bowser

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our Easter week getaway to Bowser. My grandaugher explored the coast, joined a easter egg hunt with the neighbours and a hunt at the community centre. Hosted several family dinners, read books, watched movies and relaxed. A perfect week!
