Retired professor. We travel internationally & have two Bichon's. Love to walk on the waterfront and eat the best fresh fish at Mitch's Seafood which is located at the Sport fishing landing. Balboa Park & the Zoo are favorites; Park has the Prado Restaurant which has great happy hour drinks & food; Zoo has Albert's Tree Restaurant which many do not know about; it is breezy & has an African motif.
Ron & Susan Oleson purchased this apartment in 1990
Very centrally located; less than one mile to Bay of San Diego, and 10 minutes over the bridge to Coronado with it's own beaches & Historic Hotel. Zoo & Balboa Park are a must see with it's multiple museums, Spanish Village free art studios, & great restaurants in & close to Park. From unit you reach park in 4 minutes. Also, Balboa Park Golf Course is 5 blocks away. Beaches are 20 minutes away on freeways; going East Casinos in 30 minutes.
Original house was built by famous architect, Gill. Has leaded glass windows with coved ceilings; 135 years old. Has been updated with heating/air conditioning. The one bedroom is very large with plenty of windows in all of the rooms. The decor is soothing and makes a comfortable stay for any couple or small family.
Loved that it was keyless entry and gated. Quiet location, zero foot traffic. Had all the essentials and nothing you didn't need. Water pressure was lacking but if that's the only negative I'd book this place again. We very much enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this place.
We came to San Diego for a wedding and my family wanted to stay somewhere that can fit our big family. The cottages where perfect place to stay we all had our own privacy but also had the courtyard patio to hang out. No need to drive Uber is so cheap and fast. We will definitely stay here again when the SF Giants come to town. The owners are the greatest people
My boys and I stayed here for the 2016 ComiCon Convention. The unit was perfect for the three of us. It was as described and the owner Susan was great to work with. Many amenities (market, restaurants, coffee shop) are just a short walk from the apartment. The apartment is a short Uber/Lyft ride to the Downtown/Gaslamp district. Will definitely stay here again the next time we are in San Diego.
Everything was as described! Great space and accommodations. The patio is wonderful and relaxing! Very happy
With our stay.
This is a perfect place to stay at for any length of vacation.my stay was about 10 days and I enjoyed every minute of it. The owners made everything easy and the apt is beautiful. I felt at home and comfortable during my stay. Not to mention the apt is close to everything. To get to pretty much anywhere it was only a 10-15 minute drive if that. I have nothing bad to say about this apt or my stay there. Parking was not a hassle do me, I always found a spot near the apt. It was absolute bliss and I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Check in was easy, no need to meet the owner, just press the keypad code to get into your Unit. There was no check-out process as well, just clean up and leave on time.
Pictures are exactly what the unit looks like, street parking is plentiful, but crowded. We had to park a block away to find a spot, but not too bad all in all. Uber to gaslamp as $5 - $10 one-way, so cheaper / safer than finding parking downtown.
There was a big noise issue at night. The walls between the units are very thin-- to the point that we could hear conversations in the above unit. Specific to our stay, the unit above had a party through the early hours of the morning, which kept us up. Called the owner and left a voice mail, but never got a return call.
The water pressure in the shower was abysmal. Not sure if it was broken, because even the sink pressure was better.
tl;dr: good location, good value, noise problem and shower is bad.
Central to many San Diego sights. 5 minutes to Zoo & Balboa Park. Just 3 minutes to Gaslamp. Almost walking distance to Downtown. Busline right on corner. Close to Freeways 5 & 94 & 163. Taking 5 you get to Mission Beach in 20 minutes, a few minutes more to La Jolla. Neighborhood has Grocery store on corner, New York Pizza & Taco Shops just two blocks away.
