The dining area comfortably seats 8 people, opens through double doors onto the garden terrace area with outdoor furniture and BBQ. The living area has a newly installed, Jotul wood burner for cosy evenings, along with underfloor heating for cooler days. 1 Km from village amenities, close to all the attractions and Chateau of the Perigord Noir.

Set in 1.5 acres, the garden has extensive lawns and an above ground 5.5m circular pool also shady areas for those hot sunny days.

The property is ideally sited to visit all the major attractions of this beautiful area. Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Beynac, Monpazier and many other Chateaux and Bastide towns.

Our extensive house book contains details of many sites and attractions as well as handy tips and restaurant recommendations.

We have been very lucky to have had some lovely families rent the property, we aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible. All bed linen and towels are included and we have a house manager a phone call away should you need assistance with anything.

Golf de La Forge is a well laid out, 9 hole course with full amenities: driving range, putting green, a bar providing drinks and snacks and a restaurant. This course is also situated in Siorac.

Set amidst 79 hectares of rolling hills Golf de La Marterie is an 18 hole par 73, 5803 metre course designed for players of all levels. Approx 25 min away.

The Perigord Noir has a wealth to offer. It is steeped in history, the property sits in what is referred to as 'the golden triangle' - surrounded by medieval chateau and pre-history sites.

About Denise Gilmour

We purchased La Vielle Scierie what it was a literally, as the estate agent put it, 'just a barn'. It did not have doors or windows and was half timbered, literally it had been a working saw shed. There was one solitary cold tap in the corner. After looking for 18 months in many other areas of the Dordogne within a two hour drive, in every direction, we kept coming back to this area. We had repeatedly holidayed in the area with our own children, staying in a variety of Gites. We decided in 1999 that it was time to start looking for our own 'little piece of paradise'. When we saw the barn we fell in love with the position, 'location, location', the views across the valley and the beautiful old stone construction. The estate agent thought we were made, but it had the 'tingle factor'. from 2001 onwards worked hard to restor the property and turn into the lovely home it is today. We have had so many lovely times in the garden with our children inside the barn, entertaining our friends. It is a very cosy social property. Despite the large open plan design of the interior we have managed to make it cosy and comfortable and are please to have received many compliments from our guests.

Denise Gilmour purchased this barn in 2000

Why Denise Gilmour chose Perigord Noir

Why should you rent our lovely Saw Mill? Because it has been lovingly restored to a very high standard, because it is very well equipped, because it has fabulous gardens to relax in, because it is well positioned for great walks along the river banks, because it is close to all the main sites of the Perigord Noir, because it is surrouned by fabulous restaurants, food markets, national heritage sites, and many many more things. You can be active or you can use it as a tranquil retreat,.

What makes this barn unique

This is not just a 'base' to explore the Dordogne and the Perigord Noir, it is a well equipped home with a WoW factor that you can enjoy, it will make your stay twice as enjoyable. Before we were lucky enough to have our own property we spent many years staying in gites that were poorly equpped, cluttered and unclean, until we found a stone property that had been renovated and equipped as a 'home' to the standard the owners themselves wanted, we then repeatedly booked year after year. This is what we have aimed to do, equip and furnish the property to the standard that we expect for ourselves, it is not a temporary furnish, this is our home and we hope that all who stay enjoy the property just as much as the beautiful area it sits in.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The barn itself is stunning and has every home comfort you can think of. We spent a week relaxing and visiting the nearby towns and villages, there are so many places within a short distance. Canoeing along the Dordogne was a highlight! Thank you to Denise & Kevin for letting us stay and providing so much useful information.

Excellent homely barn conversion in the Dordogne

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Vielle Scierie in Lamillal and the surrounding area. The barn conversion is homely, well laid out and comfortable. The location is well placed for the Dordogne area and its many activities including the river, walks and historical places. The area is quiet but has all the required amenities close by. The garden is very good for playing or just chilling out. Thanks to Denise and Kevin for facilitating our stay - we looking forward to returning in the near future.

in Lamillal Le Coux at easter 2014 as said was just perfect..

Our first impressions of this barn was WOW what a lovely position it is in,with beautiful spacious gardens which had a new pool in ( which was a hit with our 8 yr old daughter who had a great time as did we. we felt very relaxed knowing it was safe for her) and a fabulous BBQ area.(weather was fab so this was a well used area by all)

The barn it self is beautiful and clean, with a spacious open plan layout which offers a lot of room for everyone. The comfortable furnishings made you feel relaxed. It is so well equipped with a kitchen to die a chef i can honestly say i have never seen such a well equipped kitchen with everything you need and could have a full on dinner party if you wanted to. The hosts Denise and Kevin have put a lot of thought and effort into the barn to provide such a lovely relaxed feel . The three bedrooms are of a good size, with two double bedrooms and a twin with on suite on the ground floor where there is a good size family bathroom .

The house book is such a great source of information, recommending places to visit, a few of our favourites and loved are Monpazier ,Belves Chateau are everywhere, Chateau Milandes is particularly beautiful . The popular village of Beynac is a short drive away with many interesting sights to see including the chateau at the top. Not forgetting La Roque-Gageac ,Sarlat and Domme the list is endless as this area is soooo beautiful,

From the barn you can stroll into the village to fetch fresh bread and pastries from the local bakery, or even take a lovely walk to the river beach .We enjoyed kayaking down the Dordogne river which we highly recommend the views and memories of that trip will stay with us all forever..

We felt the location of the barn was perfect as you can get to all the places you want to with ease.

This was one of the best holidays we have had as far as self catering goes, this is because we felt totally stress free and at home here .

We enjoyed it so much we have booked the barn again this year, and we are taking our parents . We are so excited because we know that they are going to love it here as much as we do.

We think this barn is the ideal place for anyone to stay whilst exploring this stunning area of France. This is a great find and i know we will be spending many more holidays here..

A HUGE thankyou to Denise and Kevin for making our stay here special..

This spacious interior is open to the full height of the barn ceiling giving a light and roomy environment. The kitchen is well equipped with almost everything that a keen cook could want. The space provides a very social living area which is great for long evening meals. Outside the kitchen door and dining double doors there is a gravelled terrace area with seating and BBQ. This area leads to the lawns and the above ground pool. The lawns are flat and good for badminton, boules or just sunbathing. In a very quiet and pretty hamlet. There is a TV and DVD for watching films and a DVD library with a large selection to choose from. There is no terrestrial French TV. UK sateliite TV planned for 2014
