Urbana is the perfect get away, right in the middle of it all. It’s located in the heart of San Diego's most thriving cultural, business and leisure districts but when you step inside the gate, you leave it all behind. The house was built in 1889 and charms visitors with original architecture that’s been completely re-imagined and designed to accommodate guests with a taste for modern amenities and a contemporary aesthetic.
When you come to the flat from a day exploring the beaches, parks, and charming districts of San Diego, you step into an adult playground all your own. Use the gas BBQ and outdoor dining table while you enjoy the lush landscapes, raised bed gardens, bamboo fences and curving hard-scapes around you. Dine on the patio as you watch the sun set over downtown San Diego's skyline. Look down into the garden for a more secluded, peaceful view.
The kitchen offers everything you need with fully stocked cookware, new stainless steel appliances, BBQ tools, dish and glassware, silverware, a full set of chef’s cookware, graters, strainers, steamers and much more. The television and iPod doc are both there to entertain you while you whip up culinary creations as well.
The living space offers a flat screen and DVD player, Wifi board games and books to help you unwind and let your mind play.
Use it as a work, sleep or play space. It has a custom built Murphy bed with luxurious bedding to lounge on in the evening. During the day, the Murphy bed tucks away and a rolling designer cushioned bench pushes against it to serve as a sitting area. Custom designed and built floating shelves hold the Blu-ray player and IHome speaker/charger/alarm clock. Lounge and read a book or catch up on emails under the reading lamp in a designer nail rimmed sitting chair.
The bathroom has been completely remodeled with shower and fixtures. All linens, toilet paper and paper towels included.
Use the two person dining table at meals, and convert it to a work-desk when you need to. When the weather is nice (95% of the time in San Diego!) enjoy the outdoor sitting table and BBQ.
The studio has black out blinds, double paned windows that shut out the city sounds, high ceilings, hardwood floors, a ceiling fan, heater, and all new cabinetry, tile, and fixtures. We love staying here, and hope you will too!
The studio also has soundproofed double doors that can be opened up to a neighboring rental. If you're interested in a larger space, or in vacationing with another couple or with kids, this a great way to share lodging with the option of privacy. Please let us know if you're interested in a double studio stay!

Our family has lived in Ramona since the 1960s, and works to refurbish homes in San Diego, hoping to breath new life into their communities. We worked together to transform this 1889 historic home into a contemporary playground for vacationers and a respite for business people. Rob is a green designer and builder who has innovated energy efficient homes in San Diego for 40 years. Deborah, his wife, has worked to design the landscape, raised bed gardens, and hard-scapes surrounding the house. I worked together with my parents to design the interiors, furnish the cottage, and make prints of my original paintings for the interiors. I have a masters degree in painting and lived in the bay area for the past ten years working with kids. We're a family of four generations of San Diego musicians, builders and artists who hope to host visitors and show them the best of what our home town has to offer. We love to travel, meet new people, and create. We hope that this flat feels like home to you.

Cute but quirky
This is a cute place. The location is good. Street parking wasn’t a problem. Bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well supplied. The quirky part is the bathroom... the shower is tiny. And the bathroom light is on a motion senser which shuts itself off while you’re in the shower. The bathroom door squeaks loudly (woke up the second person when using the bathroom at night). The traffic and plane noise is loud but didn’t bother us too much. Much more bothersome was the party that went on all night in the unit below us. I would have given the place 4 stars until the party. We’ll stay somewhere else next time.
Thank you so much for your response. It is very important for us to know about noise complaints at the time of the issue so we can take care of it. We have very strict rules with our full time tenants about noise, and the issue can be easily resolved. We will certainly be following up after your review to get everybody on the same page.
Great space in a wonderful location
We are looking for an excuse to come back. The studio is very clean, comfortable, has exactly what you need and close to such a cute area. The neighbors can be easily heard through the walls but it never bothered us.
Cute and Close to Attractions
We had a good stay. Convenient and cute. Bed was comfy so we slept great, and space was sufficient. We found the neighborhood poorly lit, especially since we arrived after dark on our check in day. It is located close to a rescue mission so busy bus stop across the street. It was within walking distance to several areas, but we did drive as well. Only street parking at this location.
Great space for what we needed. Cozy, cute, and convenient to everything San Diego could offer!
We had an amazing trip and couldn’t have picked a better location to stay. We could have stayed in little Italy the whole time and been pleasantly surprised, however ease of access to many of the other neighborhoods and beaches was great! We will definitely come back!
Property was very well maintained and looked exactly like the pictures
My husband and I stayed while on vacation and the location is absolutely perfect for enjoying all that San Diego has to offer. Everything is pretty much within walking distance or a short uber/ lyft ride, but we actually rented a car and the drives to places are super short if you are driving. Be sure, if you are driving, to read the parking signs on the streets for sweeper days. Overall parking was not a huge hassle, 2 of the days (sweeper days) we did have to park a little further away but it wasn't too far of a walk back to the property. We loved that everything had a code instead of a key, gave us peace of mind of not keeping track of a key while out and about. Mrs. Marie and Mr. Max are absolutely fantastic about answering any questions you have. On check in day we took a super late flight out and by time we arrived it was midnight and the code to get in wasn't working. I called and they were super kind and friendly about me calling so late and giving me the correct code. The studio is well taken care of and had everything you need in the kitchen and bathroom, plus it was nice to be able to do some laundry. The pull down bed was super comfortable to my husband and I. I was a little afraid I wouldn't be able to get comfortable since I was 6 and a 1/2 month pregnant, but I slept super well and so did my husband. We actually never put the bed away and always left it down since it was just the 2 of us. Overall we defiantly stay again, perfect little spot for a couple getaway
We stayed here for 4 nights and it was very comfortable. The place is really adorable. It is small, but perfect for a couple spending a few days in the city. Walking distance to Balboa Park, but I wouldn’t make that walk at night. 1.5 miles from everything, including downtown and the waterfront. We used Lyft a lot and it was super easy to get around.
This contemporary flat in the city is bordered on all sides by San Diego's most famous neighborhoods. A five-minute walk to the west takes visitors to the beautiful Little Italy area of downtown San Diego. Here you can stroll through coffee shops, boutiques, bars and some of the most unique specialty shops and restaurants San Diego has to offer. Have dinner and a cocktail at el Camino, or pick up hand made pasta and imported olives from assenti’s and bring them back to the cottage’s fully stocked kitchen to have an Italian dinner at home in the garden. Walk three blocks in the opposite direction to reach Balboa Park, the Old Globe theater, art museums and the famous Prado restaurant. To the south, it is just minutes to the Convention Center, Gas Lamp District, and Petco Park. To the north, visitors can get lost in the architecture along Banker’s Hill and in Hillcrest daytime boutiques and buzzing nightlife. Stroll to the nearby waterfront, visit Sea World, San Diego Marina District, Seaport Village, Horton plaza, Symphony Hall, the Embarcadero, and of course, the famous San Diego zoo. These are all accessible by bus, car, trolley, or on foot.
