Growing up in Illinois, My husband and I reunited after 30 years and decided to make a fresh start. Deciding on Richmond, Kentucky, we were searching for the perfect place. Just come over the ridge and anyone will feel like they are home. A hairstylist and salon owner for 30+ in Northern Virginia, we decided to start with a hair studio in the countryside. Being so popular for a unique environment, we felt that we needed to share our home for those who need to get a way.
Joyce Green purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Jordan Hill Farm originally was built in the 1800's. ( We have pictures for your enjoyment). The previous owner had a vision and rebuilt it to have the uniqueness of the past with bringing features such as city water to the comfort of today. Logs originating back to the 1800's along with the fireplace in our Frontier room, and spiral staircase, other features include our kitchen cabinets and other wood work in our home coming from the timber of the land.
My husband and I, along with our daughter and her family stayed at Jordan Hill for a week. There were 6 of us and we were able to spread out and really enjoy our time in this beautiful, relaxing home. The minute we arrived, my granddaughter and grandson (11 year old twins) made their way to the horses. The horses are very sweet and the kids loved spending so much time with them and feeding them apples and carrots. Also, being able to watch the horses from inside the house was a real treat. Upon arrival, Joe was very welcoming, showing us around and giving us a tour of the kitchen. He was wonderful. We requested Chef Tim's services (Jordan Hill Catering) to cater a birthday dinner for my daughter and her husband who were both having birthdays. The dinner he provided for us was absolutely delicious and he set it up in high style in the dining room, very professionally done. Wow -- I sure wish he lived closer to us; we would be using his services all the time. What a treat! Some of the things that we loved:
--The front porch swings -- we spent hours out there just enjoying the peace and quiet...awesome
--The wonderful kitchen -- it is full of everything you could possibly need for cooking. My daughter and I love to cook, so this was a real treat.
--The deck in the back of the home -- there are several patio tables and chairs, very comfortable, in a very serene environment
--The fire pit in Jordan Springs -- Joyce and Joe even provided chairs and and set the fire logs up for us.
--The abundant first breakfast provided for us -- Joyce provided enough food for our first breakfast that we were able to use it for several days.
What a nice gesture and very much appreciated.
--The scenery is awesome..85 acres of rolling hills and trails. Wow, we just soaked it in.
--The hot tub which was well maintained...we enjoyed sitting out there on the deck in the evenings and overlooking the rolling hills.
--Elliott and Rigley, the dogs -- the kids loved cuddling Joyce and Joe's dogs, and our dog fit right in with them.
Thank you, again, Joyce and Joe for a wonderful week at Jordan Hill Farm. We look forward to coming back.
The home was one of the most comfortable and relaxing rentals where we have stayed. The home had the ability to house 4 families and allow for cooking and dining of the families while enjoying the beauty of rolling hills and valleys. The walking paths were safe and accessible for the young children in the families. A evening on the porch swing and night in the hot tub facilitated the family connections and communications which we were hoping for when planning. Above all, there were horses in the barn! (I love horses!)
The historic home was transformed to a birthday celebration and dinner. The dinner was catered by JHF Catering LLC and the food was greater than requested and the serving environment was very professional. We had a wonderful evening of eating, laughing and visiting!
The Vacation Home and owners were warm and accommodating. They fulfilled the dream which I have had for years! The vacation and dinner celebration were greater than a dream come true for me! Thank you!
Jordan Hill is an amazing property perfect for a family reunion or girls-weekend. The interior is casual and comforting (and true to the photos), the hot tub overlooks the barn and valley, and the owners are very welcoming. Joe & Joyce provided us with the "fixings" for a hardy breakfast for our first morning there which was really nice. We spent time visiting with her and her husband, they believe in making the Jordan Hill experience as carefree as possible, which is evident in all of the small details they pay attention to: gas grill, charcoal grill, board games, outdoor games, Direct TV available in the bedrooms, etc. We took a hike to the waterfall/creek bed which was quite the workout but well worth it. We took day trips to Richmond, Berea, and Versailles, but if you wanted to stay on the property and just hang out and do outdoor activities you wouldn't miss out. Joyce knows EVERYONE so if you mentioned Jordan Hill people were even more welcoming than they already are. I would highly recommend this property to anyone!!

Thank you for sharing your home with us. Everyone loved the place and we had a memorable 21st Girl's Weekend. We couldn't ask for anything more.
Don't be surprised if we're back soon!
Jordan Hill Farm was not as advertised. Joyce was obviously being modest in her description. It exceeded our expectations. We were there for the Breeder's Cup and we sure wished we would have booked two extra days to experience all of the farm. The country farmhouse is well taken care of. The house is HUGE. Plenty of room for everyone. We had 5 of us in our group and should have brought more.
My favorite part of the farm was the three horses right off the back deck. Being city folk, we felt at home with feeding the horses carrots and apples.
Joyce was superb at giving us all the details and took care of any questions we had. We hardly knew she and her husband were close by.
When the Breeder's Cup returns to Lexington, or any other excuse we can use to come stay here, we definitely will. A gem hidden among the horses!
Jordan Hill Farm was as advertised...an old country farmhouse (believe some it dates back to the 1800's) that is well taken care of and well decorated indoors to feel like you're in a rustic retreat. The location is about 20 minutes off of I-75...only about 9 miles, which tells you that it is pretty remote and is a winding, tight road to get back into the location. It's about 2 miles into a dead end, so you're truly by yourself out in the country.
Few of my favorites about the place...the view from the back deck (looks over a huge expanse of rolling KY forest), the horses (3 horses actually on-site that you can feed apples too...our kids absolutely went crazy with this!), the inside (all wood, old den w/ loft for sleeping, plenty of room for 3 couples - although with kids, they'll be in the same room as you), and the exterior 85 acres with plenty of hiking trails (definitely go down behind the barn to the creek bed...very unique setting of rock cliff faces into the creek bed). About a 30 minute drive to Berea which was a nice excursion.
Joyce also does a great job with providing hospitality throughout, specifically with providing enough food for a full breakfast (to feed 8 people) which was very nice. The one thing to note (just to provide full clarity) is that Joyce lives on-site in a separate garage/apartment. This didn't impact the weekend at all for us, just a heads up in case that would be weird for anyone to know that the person you're renting from is still on the property.
I'd definitely recommend the location to friends/family and hope to make another trip back in the future to Jordan Hill Farm!
Close and convenient to Lexington, Berea, Midway, Cumberland Lake, antiques and boutiques, movie theaters, EKU Performing Arts, special events in the area.
