Everything we had hoped for and MORE!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Pelicanos. Jen was very helpful before our trip with information on the area and arrangements. Quimixto is so very cute and friendly and the Casa was everything we had hoped for our honeymoon. Getting to Boca Tomalin via taxi was very simple and Raul was waiting for us as promised. After a short panga ride, we arrived on the beach in front of the Casa. He was very helpful with information on local hikes and stores. The hike to the waterfall was an easy 20-30 minutes, while the hike to Los Animas was about an hour. The Casa was a great layout for 2 couples. It was easy to purchase everything we wanted for food and drinks in the village stores. CoCo’s is fantastic. Incredible food and great drinks. We ate there a couple of nights and had Paulita bring us dinner for 2 other nights. Everything was delicious. I would recommend bringing binoculars as we had whales breaching very close to the beach. Would also recommend disinfectant kitchen wipes as it is VERY important to keep the kitchen clean to avoid ants, etc. Paper towels and paper plates would be nice also. We are already planning our next trip to this little slice of paradise!

Incredible Getaway House

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic time we had at Casa Pelicanos! As a family of three (daughter 8 years old) we all thought that this place had absolutely EVERYTHING we would want at a beachfront vacation, and almost none of what we try to avoid (hoards of tourists). Fantastic swimming for kids at the far end of the beach, and great surfing and body surfing right outside the casa. We honestly couldn`t believe we had not 1 but 2 beachfront restaurant bars to walk to within a minute or two on a stretch of beach that has very few people around to frequent them! Our daughter loved the independence of going to the ``bar`` for food or virgin pina coladas on her own! Safety is a non issue. Quimixto itself is about as authentic a Mexican town as you will find along Banderas Bay. We loved strolling at night and getting to know the people - Spanish is a real asset as many of the town folk don`t speak English, and if you haven`t arranged dinners with Palita there are nights when getting dinner made for you might be challenging as the beachfront bars close at 4 or 5. The hike to Las Animas is incredible, with a great adventure park and loads of beachfront restaurants. The Casa itself was spacious, had everything we needed, and after travelling for a few weeks we appreciated the dvd player at night! Raul the caretaker is a great guy with a great family. A great big thank you to the Silvermans as we really could not have had a better time at Casa Pelicanos. We hope to be back!

Owner's Response: Oh, this is so great! Thank you so much for your review. We try hard to make it a special place for ourselves, our friends and family, and our guests- like you (new friend!). We know what makes us comfy on vacation, and make sure we incorporate have it there. We always welcome guests feeback to what might still be needed, and we will incorporate that- so let me know! For this reason, families and folks often return. If you think about it, every teacup is "imported" (via panga and beach slepp). It is such a special place, it really is hard to express- you have to experience it. Sometimes I fear these gems locales are coming too far inbetween. We give thanks for each year we continue to own our family beach home in this special welcoming beautiful place. Almost 20 years there! Our familie's routine is to just visit PV in the day and make our way back out to our little paradise before the sunsets :)- we love the quiet and beauty and tranquility, such a contrast to the hustle and bustle of PV. Yes, on the food front, planning ahead for meals in the evening is good. Either cook for yourself, or plan with Palita for her traditional mexican style comfort foods brought right to the house, or I know Charley at Charley's Bar and Oscar at Cocos II (the two beach restaurants) will also take reservations for early dinners if you plan ahead with them and they will stay open a little later. Then, lastly, did you find Anita's in the village on the main walk?? Her tacos are famous, and she too will take reservations and make an incredible layout for dinner if you plan ahead and tell her how many. I always tell her to raise her prices- it's elegant and so fresh! She has the dearest grandma eyes you will ever see- a real treasure. Well, then there's Raul's hamburger cart and fresh cut french fries to die for! Late night cuisine (open 6pm - 10pm) on the main road. How was the snorkling? I am so glad you enjoyed your stay, Jon and family. The second time back is great because you know the scene and can plan even better. I highly recommend bringing one of your daughter's friends along! Such fun friend time!! Thank you again. Really we have to thank the village of Quimixto for perserving such a special place, and hosting visitors as they do.

Quimixto is a small village but basic food is available in the little stores. The caretakers, Raul and Palita are very helpful with transport and food and are lovely people. There are also regular water taxis. The house is clean spacious and well equipped. Enjoy watching the waves, hermit crabs and diving pelicans at Los Pelicanos.

Amazing place

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed for almost 10 days at Casa Pelicanos this spring... As I write this, three months later, I can still find that feeling in me of absolute relaxation that we found there. Quimixto is a very small village, accessible only by boat, and simply being without the constant hum of traffic that is so pervasive in our world was incredibly refreshing. This is not a vacation rental for folks who want lots of tourist-town life -- this is a vacation for those who want to see the real coastal Mexico and connect with the people of Mexico in a deeper way than a "tourist" ever could. Raul and Palita were wonderfully helpful .. Palita's cooking is incredible. Raul took us out for a day of ocean fishing. My 11-year-old returned wide-eyed with amazement -- he caught 40-something fish (we ate some, and Raul took some to sell in town). What an incredible vacation. We're going back next year, we hope!

Owner's Response: Kristen, you have to come back!!! it is so special there! I love your description, I was just rereading it. You know I offer a discount to return guests. Come again, and thank you for leaving the beautiful straw sun hats and sun umbrella. I know we used them, and other guests have as well. It is nice to share community items in the home- so comfy and so cozy.

We then retreat back to the seclusion of our lovely village with the luxuries of a real beach house apart from it all.

Nature lovers enjoy the ecology of the area with tropical birds, flowers, exotic fruit, marine life. We love getting to know the people in the village, learning spanish, and boogie boarding of course!
