About Deb McLachlan
We are 22 West. Eli and Pat are 6th generation and Deb is 5th from a long line of Irish immigrants and brave, stubborn, hard working ranchers. Our land was generously gifted from the kindest, hardest little working woman, Sarah Iris Irvine, whose desire was to keep this land in our family at a huge sacrifice to her. Our rentals also help to support North Park Wildlife Rehabilitation. Deb cares for injured and orphaned wildlife in Jackson, Routt and Grand counties.
Deb McLachlan purchased this Cabin in 1920
Why Deb McLachlan chose Walden
22 West is located 18 miles southwest of Walden, CO along the Park Range, Routt National Forest and the Zirkel Wilderness. Deb and her mom Sarah Iris were both born here in the old homestead which can be seen from the cabin. This is home, where our roots run deep.

We had a great time at the cabin which was very cute and had all the cooking items needed. Had a great time skiing on the trails and enjoying the snow. Thanks
We enjoyed a great little get away in the Eagle’s Nest cabin. Kept the wood stove going to keep the cabin warm, made good use of the kitchen (that also helped warm things up), and had fun getting out on skis. The outdoor privy was pretty cold, but we expected that! It might be useful to include a little info with the cabin: a map of trails (both on the property and in the NF), where to find the shower house (we didn’t bother to ask on our short stay), things like that. Deb was quick to answer any questions, but having the info in the cabin would be a good addition.
Beautiful Setting and Surrounding
Great little place wonderful surroundings with beautiful trails just around the corner and Deb was not only a fantastic host but an even better person! On a couple of occasions she took the time to send us text letting us know there were two moose right outside our door. Thanks Deb! If you are a hiker be sure to make your way up to Rainbow Lakes. A little long but easy hike and well worth it!
Enjoyed everything about our stay!
Second time. It is so quite there. I gets the best “reset” while Im there. I always go in the fall. Trailhead to NF/ Wilderness area is 5 min away. Steamboat an hour on dry pavement. The funds are for a great reason. Lived here over 30 yrs. This is the only place I will return to. I would call it 5 Star Primitive
Remote and nice
Where the deer and antelope play!
Property was clean with great fire pit and wildlife sharing the area with us. Kitchen was well equipped as promised and Deb made sure we had everything we needed. great place to stay for those who want to get away from everything and have some pretty incredible views as well!
Routt National Forest and the Zirkel Wilderness are just up the road. The Delaney Butte Lakes and Roaring Fork and Platte Rivers are close by. Buffalo Pass, for superb snowmobiling is a short distant away.
Please check your weather conditions before heading out as mountain conditions can change quickly. The Jackson County Road dept. does not plow on weekends and holidays.
