Overview

About the property

Steps away from the water, friendly town

The Parsonage was built in 1836 and was restored between 2001 and 2010. The house has a large front porch with rockers and a table for coffee or lunch. There are three bedrooms on the second level. The master bedroom has a queen bed with en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. Guest room#1 has a queen bed with private sink that opens into a shared bathroom. Guestroom#2 (Loft) has a sleep number full sized bed with shared bathroom. The large guest bathroom includes walk-in shower and claw foot soaking tub. A washer and dryer are in a separate room.

The main level of the house includes a parlor a game room with television, couch and foosball table, puzzles and books. The kitchen is an open plan with dining room and sun room. There is also a bathroom with a shower on the main living level.

The house was renovated following a fire so everything is new. Bathrooms are all ceramic tile and the kitchen has granite counter tops with an eat in table and a built in bar for gathering around. The kitchen contains everything you will need including basic pantry items. Back deck has a grill and two sheds that contain bikes for your use to get around town even though everything is in walking distance.

The Wharf is only steps away where you can rent kayaks, bikes, fish or crab from the dock or take the ferry to visit Tangier Island for the day. There is a public boat ramp at the same location. If you have a boat there is so much to explore. Onancock Creek is about 4 miles long and opens up into the Chesapeake Bay. The area is pristine with secluded beaches all up and down the coast.

If the ocean is your thing, Assateague National Park is about a 35 minute drive to the North. It is the closest beach with surf and easy parking. The town of Chincoteague is a fun day trip.

The town of Onancock has a charm all its own. It has a small town feel where your kids can walk down the street and go fishing and you don't have to worry about them.

About Kathi Williams

We have lived in Northern Virginia for 35 years. Onancock is our weekend getaway. We spent nearly 10 years (of weekends) renovating the house after a fire. The house originally belonged to the historic Cokesbury Church and was the home of the minister. We got caught up in the story and decided to renovate instead of tearing it down. It contains the original heart pine floors in the master bedroom and the beams on the main floor are original. We filled it with some our favorite things, some antiques, some new furniture and just love coming here.

Kathi Williams purchased this house in 2001

Why Kathi Williams chose Onancock

It is a wonderful getaway where you can let your hair down and relax! We love to cycle, kayak and boat so this was the perfect place for us.

What makes this house unique

You can sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and watch the fishing boats go up and down the creek while you drink your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. Whether you are a friend or a stranger, neighbors wave as they walk by. In the summer, you can buy fresh fish right across the street. There is also a farmer's market on Saturdays where you can purchase fresh picked produce and some local seafood. We love that the restaurants are only steps away. The sunsets are beautiful sitting on the deck at Mallards Restaurant.

Historic Onancock is a lovely small town that is family friendly. Onancock Wharf is steps from the house where you can rent a kayak, fish or launch a boat at the public boat ramp. The Chesapeake Bay is a 4 mile paddle with beaches along the way. The town hosts artists and galleries, shops, antiques and wonderful restaurants. If you like to cycle, the Eastern Shore is flat and fun to cycle short or long distances. Waterfront is found at the end of many roads on this small peninsula. The Bay is on one side and the ocean is on the other side. There is a movie theater in town and a playhouse featuring live performances.

fantastic getaway

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home, everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. We explored the area and then returned in the evening to spend time with extended family - wonderful kitchen for cooking together and lots of space. It was obvious the owners put tons of time and effort into making all areas of the house places to relax and take in the history. We plan to go back again.

A wonderful, peaceful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our three-night stay in The Parsonage. It's a beautifully restored, comfortable home full of character and interesting decor. It has way more space than we needed -- enough for two or three couples or even a family, an array of rooms, a beautiful kitchen, reasonable privacy, and most of the amenities you could want, including the best bathrooms and showers we have ever found in a HomeAway property, or anywhere for that matter. Plus the owner was very pleasant and easy to deal with.

The location is superb. The home is within short walking distance from the town wharf and the downtown, both offering a very good selection of restaurants and shops. And we were so impressed with the little Eastern Shore community of Onancock. It is very walkable and peaceful, includes a beautiful historical museum and grounds at Ker Place, displays appreciation of the arts, and reflects a happy and industrious populace.

There is no shortage of things to see and do in and around Onancock, including taking the ferry out to historic Tangier Island in the middle of Chesapeake Bay.

We would definitely consider returning for another stay and can highly recommend this property for your getaway vacation from the hustle and bustle.

Such a lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

There were eight of us: six adults and two children and we were very comfortable. The home accommodated all eight of us in the kitchen/family room area, but allowed us the space to move into different rooms if we wanted a quiet area. I loved all the beach-themed decorations and will definitely go back if ever in the area!

Charming renovated Parsonage

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable and well appointed home within walking distance of all the high points of Onancock. The owners were wonderful and responsive to our requests which made our stay that much more enjoyable.

The Eastern Shore is one of our favorite places to get away from it all. If you are looking for small town charm in a beautiful setting, you will love this property.

Lovely restored house in Onancock VA

  • 5 of 5

Our adult family of 4 enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing three nights in this beautifully restored 19th century house near the wharf in Onancock VA. Very good restaurants are a short walk away on the wharf, or in the quietly pleasant downtown. We used this as a base for visiting the more bustling town of Chincoteague, and Assateague Island, during the day, and enjoyed the peace and quiet during the evening in Onancock. All in all, a great place to stay.
