Several years ago we bought, and completely renovated our second apartment in Amsterdam. The apartment is in the 'Old West' area which has become very trendy, but still wonderfully convenient with shops and services that are necessary.
This apartment is 55 sq.meters (600 sq. ft) and has every amenity: the bedroom has a queen-size bed, flat screen cable TV on the wall (a few English-language stations), a DVD player with a nice selection of DVDs, two large closets, a comfortable chair and a dresser. Large glass doors open on to the terrace, and the bedroom door can be closed for privacy. Off the hallway is a beautiful large shower, and there is a separate toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances, including a Nespresso machine, large microwave and dishwasher. The hallway leads into the nice-size living room with a comfortable sofa, dining table, small bar, and bookcase. There are two large, double-glazed windows (it's very quiet) that look out onto the street below. Off the living room is a separate small room with futon, desk, computer, printer/copier/scanner, and a CD player. We have high Speed Internet/WiFi
It's the only apartment on the floor. The stairs from the outer door to the apartment are carpeted and unlike many Amsterdam apartments, are an easy walk with a landing between the first and second floor. There is only one apartment on each floor.
My husband and I used to exchange our New York City apartment with a good friend who lives in Amsterdam. After five or six years of loving the city, we decided to buy an apartment here. We have been coming to Amsterdam two or three times a year, each time for a month or two, for about 12 years. We decided to buy another apartment here as an investment. This apartment is also useful for friends, and family who come and visit us from New York as well as using it as a rental.
Joan Fabricant purchased this apartment in 2013
We searched for many months for a second apartment. In addition to the price, our main criteria were whether we would like to live in it and its location, thinking of friends and renters. We found this one. We both agreed on it right away. It had great potential, and we knew that with a serious renovation and tasteful furniture, it would be a very nice place.
This is a very comfortable apartment in a great location. Everything is new, including linens, pots, pans, dishes, etc. There is lots of kitchenware. We also have a portable travel crib
We have some very good friends who take care of the apt. They are wonderfully helpful to any renter, and also lovely people. They will meet you with the keys, and explain anything you need to know about the apt or the city. They live a few blocks away should there be any problems. They renovated the apartment when we bought it, and so they know it well.
Thanks for the 5 day loan of the apartment. We had a good time. All the arrangements with Sylvia worked well.
Thanks for letting us stay on , on our final day before our flight.
The apartment was super clean, the bed really comfy & all the furnishings & equipment very good. Thanks also for the wine & chocs on arrival.
P.S. what a lot of museum's to visit!
We loved our time in this apartment! It had everything we could have wanted including lots of notes/suggestions for restaurants, museums, shops and information about the trams. We walked around the neighbourhood which included lots of places to eat and grocery stores steps away. We are saving our money to come back. Joan and Sylvia were very helpful and lovely. Don't hesitate to rent this space - you'll love it!
This is one of the most well equipped apartments I've ever stayed in! I loved the location, close to anything you might need and a nice 15 min. walk to the center or to the museum area. Great bed, great shower, great kitchen. There is even a little sound system and a nice selection of music to play. The only drawback is that it's a bit noisy--mostly traffic noise.
This is a wonderful, fully equipped apartment in a nice neighbourhood close to everything. And I do mean fully equipped! There is even a computer station with a computer and wireless printer and the Internet is excellent. A Magic Jack phone so you can call home or make reservations if you don't have a cell. Fully stocked kitchen if you want to cook and lots of local restaurants, bakeries and delis if you don't. Two grocery stores within a block. A nice big bathroom. A washing machine and lots of movies. You just need your clothes and toothbrush! This apartment is exactly as you see in the photos and is nice and bright and clean. It is perfect for two people. Although the apartment is on a fairly busy street the bedroom is at the back of the apartment away from the road so it is quiet and was perfect for my Mom. With the front windows closed the apartment was quiet but I slept on the futon in the den and with windows open it was noisy until the traffic died down. Would work better with windows closed. This apartment is in a small building above a store and up two flights of stairs with a landing in the middle. Not easy to get luggage up (taxi driver took it down) and a bit of a challenge for my 80++ Mom but we managed fine. Building is super quiet.
This is an interesting area to wander around and it's not touristy so you are in among the locals which we loved. Tram and bus both steps away and you can get daily or weekly passes that cover both at the tobacco store around the corner. It's walkable to everything too.
Joan was great and easy to deal with through the whole booking process and kept in touch throughout. She was super helpful and you need have no worries booking with her. Sylvia who is her caretaker was on holiday herself but easily reachable on her cell and left us in the very capable hands of Victoria. Victoria was lovely and went out of her way to make us welcome including giving us a mini tour of the immediate area.
Definitely a great choice for a place to stay in Amsterdam and I would stay again if I return.
My husband and I were extremely pleased with the apartment, and Sylvia was very friendly, chatty, and accommodating - I like her very much!
The apartment was all that we expected and more, and we appreciated all the small touches that made it feel even more like home. Forget the Nespresso machine, we enjoy our french press coffee! The chocolates and wine were a nice treat. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and organized, and the usage instructions were very helpful too! Our favorite place was sitting on the balcony…I also appreciated the basket of clothespins to hang freshly washed laundry. The computer/printer station allowed us to print receipts for purchased Holland Cards, and boarding passes for the next leg of our journey. One night, we comfortably entertained friends, who live in the suburbs of Amsterdam, and we all enjoyed a pleasurable evening catching up on life - that would have been much harder to do in a noisy restaurant or a hotel room! From ice cubes to needle and thread at bedside to standard pantry items and refrigerator condiments, we found nothing lacking.
Finally, Sylvia was very responsive when I frantically called from the airport the morning we were departing for Scotland - I had left a suit in the closet, and I think I woke her up. Uncomplainingly, Sylvia met me at the apartment, handed me the keys and I ran upstairs to get the suit (that was needed later on in the afternoon!). Because it was still fairly early in the morning, I made this madcap roundtrip in about 40 minutes, including running up and the down the stairs!
Your apartment and its location was just right for us, Joan, and I can see why you love this city. We will definitely come back to explore more of the city and countryside next time…I hope your apartment will be available!!
This apartment is located very ell, being walking distance to many of Amsterdam's attractions. Most importantly, it is equipped with absolutely anything one needs for a comfortable stay. We loved it!
Husband, adult daughter and I spent a wonderful week in this apartment. Location was perfect - we could walk to just about everything but always had the option of several trams. Apartment was spotless and had everything we could need to be comfortable. Joan was quick to respond to my questions and Sylvia was gracious and friendly getting us settled. Especially appreciated the list of recommended restaurants in the area! We were very please with the apartment and would absolutely recommend!
Oud West has become one of the most desirable, and fashionable neighborhoods in Amsterdam. It borders on the Jordaan and is a 10-minute walk to the center. Our apartment has 5 tram lines (the best way to travel in Amsterdam) within a half-block. The museum area (Museumplein) and Vondel Park are 10 minutes by tram (three tram stops). Leidseplein is within walking distance. We are a few stops from the Dam(or a 15 minute walk) and Central Station. We are close to the Anne Frank House. There are supermarkets, drug stores, a laundromat, as well as many great restaurants, cafes, bars, and small retail shops, all within a block or two. It is a wonderful mix of many small, boutique type shops as well as neighborhood stores and services. The apt is 3 blocks from" De Hallen" the beautiful new food and arts complex just completed that used to be the old tram depot.
