This stunning property embodies the discrete and refined elegance of true luxury, unassuming, natural and relaxed, with no unnecessary additions or excess.
Located on the top floor of a modernist building, this property offers our guests an unparalleled experience in its bright and spacious rooms, and views over the Barrio de Salamanca from either of its two terraces.
Far removed from the standard, impersonal style of the décor increasingly favoured in our modern world, this property offers a warm and very personal interior, the character of its owners shining through in every room, in every corner filled with memories and special details evident to the discerning eye. All this and more meets welcomes you the moment you cross the front door: original wooden floors, painted woodwork, high ceilings, decorative moldings… not to mention the exquisite selection of furniture, or the catalogue of artworks which can be found on every wall and corner. Yes, this is a pied-à-terre with a difference, inviting rest and enjoyment, perfect for getting away from the bustle of the city after a day of cultural tourism or avid shopping in the Barrio de Salamanca, as this area is arguably one of the most attractive retail hotspots in Europe. Peace and quiet are the norm in this building, where silence and good manners prevail. Perfect for families with children or those looking to enjoy a quiet sojourn.

About Home at Homes
hose of us that are part of Home at Homes, share a very characteristic quality: we suffer what is known as the 'Stendhal syndrome'. Beautiful things excite us and there is nothing we can do about it! We strive to see, feel and taste the good things of life. We can be very miserable at times, but when we are happy, we put all our heart and soul into staying that way. This blessed curse, conditions even our long working hours, something, which on the other hand fills us with happiness and, being happy, is very good for the health! Work and fate has made both of us have to travel extensively. Along our separate ways, we have met fascinating people and amazing places and we have experienced the material and transcendental luxury to the point of being obsessed in finding those sweet moments. Karin Wallis is a cosmopolitan from birth. Swedish mother and English father, born in London and from there has travelled more than half the world round. She speaks English, Spanish, German and Swedish and came to work with tourism through her marketing career. In addition to traveling you will also see her enjoy scuba diving, horse riding, skiing and any sport that involves adventure and to keep fit. She is an amateur photographer (though nobody would guess this by seeing her work!) and she shoots all the photographs you can find on the Home at Homes Website. She is a lover of good food, has an infatuation for perfection and enjoys a cold GT at the end of a long and happy days work. Nono del Barco has spent half of his life making people feel good. Some people say that his vocation is to be a super-host. He has spent most of his life related to high level tourism from Hospitality to Public Relations. Pioneer in the invigoration of the Seville nightlife, he has opened the doors to the avant-garde and innovative proposals in the gastronomic sector of the city. “Sevillano” down to the marrow, perfectionist, and lover of good life, good food and fine wines, he has an agenda worth i

Sprawling art filled apartment with large terrace
After another two-bedroom apartment we had reserved had problems with water and gas, we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded by Karin at Home at Homes to this elegant three-bedroom home in the high end Salamanca neighborhood. It's well equipped with a separate master suite, soaking tub, strong water pressure, a/c, beautiful art, and no less than three areas to dine--should you feel like staying in (but why would you with so many wonderful restaurants in the area). Located near the American Embassy, with excellent shopping nearby, it's a 7 minute taxi ride to the Prado. We were near a subway station on the corner, but Uber (costing approximately 5 Euros to all the sites) was so cheap and pleasant to use that we opted to forgo public transportation. After long days of sightseeing, we enjoyed the sunset from our terrace with wine and cheese from a nearby market before venturing out for dinner at one of the many restaurants recommended by lovely Karin. All in all an excellent stay for three friends on a girlfriends getaway.
Beautiful Apartment in Exclusive Neighborhood
The apartment has a beautiful balcony to watch sunsets and ample room. The bathrooms in the two bedrooms on the first floor were small and only the upstairs bedroom had an AC. The apartment is split into two and the upper loft had tricky stairs that one could easily trip. Beautiful and exclusive Salamanca neighborhood near exclusive shops and restaurants. However, this apartment is far from The Prado, Plaze Mayor and other sightseeing sights. In the future, I would prefer an apartment within walking distance.
Communication with HOME Away could have been much better. There was a last minute problem with our original booking and they had to scramble to place us in a new apartment. Emails were not returned and I had to call them in Madrid to figure out what was happening. Also they did not communicate quickly enough about our deposit. A detailed map of restaurants, supermarkets, and the metro along with suggestions would have been appreciated. However, they did not charge us extra for our better and bigger apartment and in the end we were very pleased with our accomodations.
Dear Pamela, thank you for your review. We are indeed glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at this property and your stay with us in Madrid. We are indeed sorry that the original property you booked had a last minute problem with the hot water and we went out of our way to ensure you a true upgrade as this property was three times as expensive than your original booking. Please note that the original property you booked was twice as far from the Prado, Plaza Mayor etc. as it was in the Chamberi district. I recommend the next time you come to Madrid you book something in the historic center of Madrid. This property you stayed at is situated in the luxurious Barrio de Salamanca with Gucci, Escada and Cartier on the corner and indeed not in the historic center.
The whole property has AC as I explained at the check in with your friends so I am very sorry to hear that you did not use it.
We certainly provided a map of Madrid at the check in, ample information on Restaurants and places to go and where in constant contact via whatsaap with Caroline Kane ( I am indeed sorry Pamela that I did not have your mobile or I would have also sent you all the information too).
Pamela, we are Home at Homes and not Home Away hence I am indeed sorry to hear that comunication with them was slow.
As for the security deposit, it was returned 5 days after your stay as when you left there was a bank holiday. Home Away gives up to 7 days for the refund of the deposit.
Once again, thank you for taking the time in wrtiting this review and we are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. With warm regards from the whole HH Team
