About the property

Kirkton Bay House has a lovely relaxed family home atmosphere. The large, bright, contemporary kitchen is the heart of the home and ideal for entertaining. It is fully equipped with a large gas/electric range, modern appliances and a central dining room table. The conservatory opens up from the kitchen. With its large windows and beautiful views this is the perfect place for cloud watching, or even in the quiet of the early morning to spot the otter fishing in the bay.

There are two further cosy sitting rooms, one with a wood burning stove, perfect for relaxing by the fire shutting out a winter's night. Plenty of rooms to escape to and relax. With a natural stone floor and underfloor heating throughout the whole of the ground floor, this house is not only beautiful but practical - warm in the winter and cool in summer.

The house has four bedrooms: three doubles, one of which is en suite and one twin bedded room. All the bedrooms are comfortable and stylishly decorated with Fired Earth neutral colours accented with hand-made designer curtains and blinds. Lie in bed in the morning watching the light changing over the sea and mountains. There are two large modern family bathrooms with showers and baths (one of which is downstairs).

There is a laundry room for drying and storage. It is equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer and drying rack.

Glenelg is a flourishing local community in the heart of the most dramatic Highland landscape overlooking Skye. The Isle of Skye can be easily reached during the summer season by the last turn-table ferry in the world.

This is the area of Gavin Maxwell's Camasferna from where he wrote the classic 'Ring of Bright Water' at Sandaig with its unique white coral beach, where you can still see otters playing today. Glenelg is an ancient settlement with Iron age Pictish Brochs (the best preserved on the British mainland) and Hanovarian Barracks dating from the 1700s. The famous Eilean Donan castle, renowned for being the most photographed in the world, is a short drive away.

This is an outdoor paradise with gentle coastal walks or the perfect opportunity for Munro bashing, the Five Sisters of Kintail and the Cuillins of Skye are within easy reach. There is also fishing, cycling, boat trips, nearby sandy beaches for children to play on - or you can just sit quietly watching the ever-changing scenery.

Glenelg has a rich, diverse wildlife from the majestic red deer, pine martins, seals, porpoises, basking sharks, whales and otters to the shy and rare wild cat.

THINGS TO DO Visit the Brochs in Glenbeag, about 4 miles on through the village. Brochs are amazing Pictish Towers – lookout for big waterfall on right half way along Glenbeag – especially in wet weather.   A drive to Arnisdale and Corran is very rewarding and one of the most scenic roads in Scotland. If clear weather it offers stunning views across to Skye and the Cuillin mountains, Knoydart and the Isles of Eigg and Rum. At the end of the public road is the hamlet of Corran -Sheena’s Tea Hut is at the very end of the village and worth a visit (seasonal opening) it can be a life-safer after a long walk. A regular pilgrimage at Glenelg is a walk down to Sandaig, the once home of Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water. This is the location of Maxwell’s ‘Camusfearna’ where he wrote his best selling books and kept his pet otters. It is a most beautiful and atmospheric spot.
