My Tenants all say the Pictures and description don't do this fun ,Beautiful home justice and that it's much better than they expected. This vintage, victorian-style brick house has a vast history, but has also been completely restored in the last couple years. The structure of the home, along with some of the original elements (door handles, light fixtures, etc) provide a real sense of old world charm. These things contribute to the historic value of the once farmhouse, fitting in well with the Carver Historic District which the home is apart of. However, most elements (kitchens, bathrooms, etc) have been redone to give the house modern conveniences. Overall, the home is very spacious, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It is fully furnished. There is a bonfire pit and a gas grill in the fully landscaped backyard. It is also walking distance to the quaint downtown area of Carver.
John Willard bought this home in 2012. He was born and raised in Bloomington, Minnesota. He works in real estate and builds cabins on the north shore.

When I saw this house, I couldn't resist buying it. It is so rare to see the older homes built in this victorian style and also completely redone on the inside, it's a real treasure. Someone clearly took very good care of it for a long time.
The outside of the home is beautiful. The brick and the structure are gorgeous. Then you go inside and it's just as wonderful. The old wood floors, the stained glass windows, the front porch, the flowers and plant life in both the front and back yard all add to the appeal of the home.
As many of the other reviewers had shared, the house is absolutely beautiful. It has so many details that shine from it's age, but it has been updated in the kitchen and in several other areas of the home. There is plenty of room throughout the house to enjoy and spread out. I rented this house with several other members of my family: my parents, my husband and two young kids, as well as my sister and brother in law. We were all traveling in from Ohio and North Carolina for a family wedding. My parents arrived first and had some electrical issues, possibly due to some bad weather. The owner was quick to respond back with my parents via calls/text. Thankfully the electrical issues did not continue.
One thing that threw me a bit was that the listing states that the rental has 3 bedrooms, however it had 4. Which was good and bad. The bedrooms are as follows: Bedroom 1- Queen, Bedroom 2-Queen, Bedroom 3- two twins (one on a box spring, one on the ground), Bedroom 4- a full and a twin. SO if you are hoping to rent this thinking there are 3 queens, it is untrue. One of the reasons we rented this home was that it stated it had one room with a queen and two twins (good for our two little ones to be in the same room). That was disappointing.
Also, the listing shows it has air conditioning. Again, true and false. In it being an older home there is no central air. It did have 3 air conditioning units, one in the kitchen area, and one in two of the bedrooms (one of the queens and the other bedroom with the full and twin). The weather wasn't very warm during our stay, however only about 3 of the windows in the ENTIRE house have screens so you can't open the windows to let in the cool air unless you want to be eaten by bugs (it rained and the mosquitoes were terrible). It was very hot in the house and the owner advised us to not run the air conditioners.
Communication was also another problem. This is probably the 6th house rental I have gone through (2 through vrbo) and after I booked I heard nothing from the owner in details. I contacted the owner, through email, several times 2 weeks prior to our trip asking for any rental contract, information we needed to know about the rental, and THE ADDRESS. After several days of no return email, I finally had my husband call him. Also, we had to pay an additional cleaning fee of $85 that will probably not be listed in your request quote.
It was a nice house to stay in, just didn't match the description.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The pictures are great, but the house is even more lovely in person. There were so many cute little details in this house and we really appreciated the fenced in area in the backyard. The kitchen was well-equipped and we cooked several meals there during our stay. I can't say enough nice things about this rental!
Cute house, great new appliances, lots of room to spread out, John was great to work with! However there was a little clutter of personal belongings, beds were comfortable, most beds just a mattress frame, lots of mosquitos this time of year (August) -if there was a way to control that it would make it more enjoyable! There were window AC units and fans available, overall a unique and enjoyable experience spending a week in this historical Victorian home! Minneapolis was a great city to visit, the house was within a 30 minute drive to MOA, and downtown areas.
Seven women (all sisters and sisters-in-law) found this to be a wonderful home base for our annual 4-day get-together. Situated in the small town of Carver, the location is convenient for excursions ranging from theater (The Old Log Theater in Chanhassen and The Chanhassen Dinner Theater), shopping (The General Store in Minnetonka and shops in Excelsior), and a boat cruise on Lake Minnetonka. The house itself is very comfortable and roomy. The kitchen was nice, although we generally don't cook on these trips. After all, it is our vacation! Very nice having 3 bathrooms and four bedrooms. Everyone was able to spread out. Nice front porch to relax in. I have rented through VRBO dozens of times, and this place again lived up to the description on the VRBO site.
We enjoyed our stay in this historic home in Carver MN. The home was peaceful, located on a quiet street in downtown Carver. Located just a couple blocks from a very nice river walk, we enjoyed strolling around and seeing all the old houses. There was live music in two uptown bars on the night we arrived. The house was clean and stocked. One issue was a hornet's nest in the bathroom that kept us from opening the window as it was inside the screen. Appliances all worked fine, and the temporary issues with the wireless were dealt with immediately by the owner. We recommend this home, a quick 20 minute trip to most of Minneapolis, but out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
Very much enjoyed my stay at the Vintage Victorian in Carver. The house itself is charming and full of character, very spacious, much more so than the photos would lead one to believe. Upstairs bedrooms are very roomy, especially for an older home. Kitchen is modern and functions well, has an island and all of the amenities; attached breakfast room creates a very inviting space. We also enjoyed the lovely yard and wonderful front porch. Enjoyed coffee on the porch in the morning and wine and grilling in the back several evenings. Carver is also a quaint little historic town and the location allows you to enjoy the small town while taking day trips to Minneapolis and surrounding areas. That said, cleaning was not up to the standards I expected. Not sure anyone had been there for a while and things were pretty dusty. I recommend making sure the house has been cleaned before you move in. Old houses have a way of generating dust even when no one is living there. John is very nice guy, however, there were a couple of issues when we first arrived and these were not addressed in a very timely manner. There are lots of stairs to the second floor so be prepared! Beds were comfortable, bedrooms and bathrooms functional. Furniture in the TV room and sitting area could stand to be upgraded but that is just my opinion as a short person who finds over-stuffed squishy furniture to be challenging. Kitchen is adequately stocked for vacation use for the average cook. There are no screens on the windows, but there were window AC units in two bedrooms upstairs and John offered to install some downstairs if needed - we stayed at the end of May, early June. The weather was nice and because it is a brick house the downstairs stayed quite comfortable. It was a treat to be able to stay in a house in my home town; I would rent the Vintage Victorian again without hesitation!
This vintage Victorian-style home has been completely restored and is located in the heart of historic Carver, Minnesota. It is short walking distance to the small downtown area of Carver which includes a nice restaurant, two bars, post office and a general store/gas station. It is driving distance to anything else that Minneapolis or the Southwest suburbs have to offer.
