About Loretta Carns

I am a native of Florida and lived and grew up there in the country until I was 36 and moved to Rome, Georgia which was hilly, but not the mountains. I moved to my home now Parrottsville/Del Rio, TN in 2002 near the vacation home. I love the country and the mountains. I worked accounting for 31 years and since moving to Tennessee I have mostly worked carpentry, staining and painting and now a store manager. Thus, I purchased this house and have refurbished the lower level which encompasses the kitchen, dining room, living room and one bath. I have tried to make the level somewhat rustic and to have the feel of a cabin. I love the curvy roads to ride my motorcycle, the gravel roads and forest to ride a horse, and most of all I love the country lifestyle leaving the traffic and hustle and bustle of city life.

Loretta Carns purchased this house in 2013

Why Loretta Carns chose Tennessee

I love this area and the people. I love the convenience to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Johnson City, Hot Springs, NC and Asheville, NC. There are 4 seasons here. There are views that have differences between daytime and nighttime views which also change with the seasons. I hope you will love the mountains too. Fall is my favorite time, with the country festivals and color change on the leaves. The smell of the mountain changes with the falling leaves.

What makes this house unique

For people who live a hectic lifestyle this is THE getaway from it all. The house is nestled in the woods with few neighbors. You might enjoy a wooded morning or evening walk, or just to sit on the deck and enjoy the scenery, or by the campfire. Bring your motorcycle and enjoy the country roads and scenery through the mountains. Bring your horses and ride the trails in and around the national forest. This house is away from it all. Most of all there is quiet for reflection, enjoyment and peace for the soul.

Beautiful, immaculate, spacious house

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for our weekend long trail ride in TENN, NC and VA. This house was clean and welcoming with lots of space for our large crew of riders and passengers. The kitchen and dining area accommodated all of us in a way that allowed us to visit and share stories of the day's adventures. We will definitely consider staying at this property in the future when we are in the area. Thank you Loretta and Maury for taking such care to make sure our stay promoted pleasant memories for us.

Nice house- almost too secluded -OK stay

  • 3 of 5

House was larger than expected. Everything was in great shape. Loved the fire pit and hot tub. It is definitely off the beaten path. 40+ minutes round trip to any store.

The reason I give 3 stars is the fact that the gas fireplace in the lower level was turned off for the summer. It was in the low 30s at night at the end of March- not what I consider summer. Contacted the owners but they said, "too bad".

With the thermostat upstairs- it was way too cold downstairs to spend any time- and that is where the large tv and family room is. The owners also told us they gave us more wood for the fire pit- not sure how that would help the artic temperatures in the house.

Overall a nice house- more an issue of the owners not being accommodating.

Would not stay there again because of that and as I said- too far away from civilization.

Owner's Response: I am born and raised southern, therefore was raised to be hospitable and would NEVER say "TOO BAD" to anyone and certainly never a guest. The whole house has a new heat and air system that guests control from the thermostat. Even the garage is heated. The lower level is below ground and has excellent insulation. The temperature varies very little with the outdoors, but is heated and under the guest's control. We are disappointed the illusion of mid 30's at night made you feel like the lower level was like the Artic. The temperature is controlled by the renter. Had we received a call instead of a text we might have been able to gauge how important it was to you. I just received a text that ended "ok thanks!" There is no emotion in a text there was no mention of being frigid. My site states the large size of the house and it is rural if you want to get away from it all it IS the place. The home is located in an area adjacent to the national forest and has all nature has to offer.

large family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We needed some place to accommodate our large family. Our youngest daughter was getting married and of course every one wanted to be there. Our stay was awesome and we had room for everyone.... very comfy stay at this beautiful house! Wedding was in Ashville and the house was plenty close enough.

Perfect Family Weekend Getaway! !

  • 5 of 5

Booked the property to celebrate a surprise 40th birthday party. Wotked out perfectly because its secluded and in a very picturesque location. Also chose the property because it's relatively close to major attractions like Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, etc. The owner Loretta has been wonderful from booking to the end our trip.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our family vacation from Florida. This is a very beautiful home. A lot bigger than it looks. Loretta is very kind and just right around the corner. I highly recommend staying here. You will enjoy the peace and quiet. Very nice porches where you can sit and relax and listen to the birds. Thank you so much for having us.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at the property. It is away from the everyday craziness, but close enough to experience many activities and attractions (Hot Springs is highly recommended). The house is big, beautiful, and clean. The road to the house can be challenging at first if you are not used to mountain roads, but it is fine after the first time or two. The house is well kept and stocked with plenty of dishes, pots, pans, etc. The hot tub, fire pit, and 3 decks gave us plenty of room to enjoy the scenery. The only downside to the stay was leaving.

Winter months might need 4 x 4 when there is snow. Beautiful when there is snow, and in warm weather by motorcycle, horseback, or walking is beautiful. Adjacent to Cherokee National Forest. Within an hour drive from: Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville, Hot Springs, Johnson City and reasonably close to Bristol Motor Speedway.
