Our St. John home enjoys a spectacular location on the very edge of the National Park in Reef Bay, on the south shore of St. John. The south shore road ends about a quarter mile beyond us, and the house is located well away from the road. This creates an exceptionally peaceful, pristine and beautiful setting with no noise except the sound of surf breaking on the beach below you. The view is one of the island’s most unspoiled views of the National Park and the undeveloped southern coast of St John. The magnificent views include miles of turquoise and blue ocean, mountains covered with virgin subtropical rain forests, and the 'Big Sur' like shoreline of the National Park. The white sands of Reef Bay Beach lie below you and are accessible via a short hike. Reef Bay is one of St. John's most virgin National Park beaches where sea turtles still lay their eggs and snorkeling, swimming and beach walks are private and adventuresome. Although there’s a strong sense of being away from it all, it’s only a four mile drive into Cruz Bay.
Virgin Seabreeze is a Caribbean estate with a classic architectural heritage blended with a modern and comfortable interior. The estate consists of a large main house plus a 2-bedroom guesthouse. The living, dining and kitchen areas, plus the master bedroom, the pool bedroom, and the loft bedroom are located in the main house. The guesthouse is just off the main house and contains upper and lower bedrooms that share a recently remodeled bath. Outside the houses are terraced gardens, and an antique brick patio that contains a barbeque pit and a lovely outdoor dining area. The hot tub sits in an exceptionally private and romantic spot on the left side of the house, while the spacious pool and sundeck are on the lower level.
In the main house the large great room contains the living, dining and kitchen areas. On the ocean side screened sliding glass doors open to lovely views and a seaside deck, while glass doors on the garden side open to views of the courtyard and terraced gardens. The living room has custom built designer furniture that seats eight, and includes a 40” Sony flat screen cable TV/DVD, high speed internet and an AM/FM/CD stereo. You can dine inside at a mahogany table that seats 8, or outside at a 10-foot marble table that seats 8-10 under the gazebo on the patio. On the pool deck there are two tables that each seat four persons.
The recently remodeled kitchen has hardwood cabinets accented by granite countertops, tiled walls and a bow window that gives the chef a beautiful view of Reef Bay. Appliances include a 4-burner gas stove/oven, a refrigerator/freezer with icemaker, a dishwasher, 2 microwaves, a blender and coffee maker. There are hand painted decorative pieces and multiple sets of dinnerware. A Jennaire gas grill is on the brick patio, and a washer/dryer and freezer are located in an alcove off the great house.
The four bedrooms all have air conditioning, flat screen 26” TVs, water views and the subdued sounds of surf gently breaking on the beach below you. In the guesthouse, the upper and lower bedrooms each have a choice of a king bed or two twins, TV/DVD and an iPod clock radio. These two bedrooms share a tiled bath and shower that was completely remodeled in 2010. In the main house, the master bedroom has a 4-poster king bed, a TV/DVD plus an iPod, and beautiful views through sliding glass doors that open to a seaside deck. A separate tiled master bath and a shower serves the master bedroom. The fourth bedroom is off the pool deck (king bed or 2 twins) and has a tiled bath and shower (remodeled in 2010), TV plus AM/FM/CD player. A fifth bedroom, of sorts, is the loft with a ships ladder access off the great room. It contains an antique sleigh bed, desk, table, and small deck.
In sum, St John consistently wins green awards because it is one of the least developed, best preserved and most unspoiled and natural islands in the Caribbean, thanks largely to the presence of the National Park. In concert with this theme, Virgin Seabreeze is located in one of the least developed, most unspoiled and tranquil areas of St. John. Because the view looks into the National Park it has changed very little in the years Virgin Seabreeze has been renting. If you value peace and quiet and unspoiled vistas of green mountains and blue skies and seas, this location will greatly please you. As for the villa it’s a classic beauty that has been lovingly maintained and improved since it was built. It’s a spacious, comfortable and perfect house for this exceptional location.
When we first visited St. John it was love at first sight and we immediately began to dream about building a vacation home somewhere on the island. At that time (mid 1980s) we could have bought land anywhere – North Shore, Cruz Bay, Coral Bay, Great Cruz Bay – there were many choices. So we searched, and searched, and one day a local in the know advised us to visit Reef Bay and off we went. When we drove up the ridgeline and first saw Reef Bay we were absolutely awestruck by its rugged and untouched natural beauty, and its one of a kind gorgeous views of the National Park and the Caribbean. Long story short, we became one of the first couples to build in this beautiful wilderness on the edge of the Park. That was many years ago but we still return every year, and although today there are more homes in Reef Bay, it still offers the same bold beauty, soft tranquility, and sense of excitement and escape that we fell in love with so many years ago. The wonderfully unspoiled views of the Caribbean haven’t changed, and the lush, unblemished mountains and hillsides seem to get greener and denser every year. It’s as lovely today as the first time we banged our way out here in an old jeep on a bumpy dirt road. Today we ride in an air-conditioned SUV on a paved road, but the sense of escape, excitement and joy of being surrounded by unspoiled tropical beauty is still the same. We were captivated by Reef’s striking beauty when we first saw it, and we’re still awestruck every time we return. You will be too.
Virgin Seabreeze ia a unique blend of different themes. First, Seabreeze is traditional and also contemporary. The house is a beautiful example of the classic Danish architecture that has become a favorite on St John, with white masonry buildings, red tiled hip roofs, wooden shutter doors, antique brick patios and courtyards, gorgeous hand cut stonework, a spacious layout and terraced tropical gardens. Yet the interior of Seabreeze is modern, comfortable, and stylish with custom rattan furniture, precious antique accessories, mahogany, granite and glass baths, a/c in all bedrooms, and frequent upgrades and remodeling of the kitchen, baths and living room.
Second, this home has a decidedly romantic essence that derives from its hideaway location, and is enhanced by an inviting hot tub in a secluded setting, a sunny pool surrounded by a large deck, lovely bedroom décor and furnishings, and patios and decks that offer enough privacy for full body tans.
Third, this home has an adventuresome quality. The National Park beach below you is little known, little used and usually deserted. Depending on the surf, the swimming and snorkeling can be inviting, or you can go for a long walk on a deserted beach. A one mile hike along the beach brings you to a second beach at the head of Reef Bay, while National Park trails take you on more challenging hikes through the Park to Lameshur Bay, Bordeaux Mountain or Rams Head.
Let me start by saying the the location and amenities of this Villa are exceptional. Close enough to Cruz Bay that you can enjoy all the shops and restaurants but secluded enough that you can feel alone if you want. The buildings are very nice and contain most modern amenities. The pool was great for relaxing as was the hot tub. Both received full sun until ~1PM and remained shaded the balance of the day.
The issues we had with our stay had 100% to do with the property management company. When we arrived we were shown the property and left to enjoy the property but before leaving the greeter gave us phone numbers to contact the office if we needed anything and also provided us with an emergency number for after hours if it was needed. Those numbers were useless as no one answered the phone... We notice when we went to prepare dinner that there was no gas in the house so the stove and oven were inoperable. The igniter for the grill didn't function and there were no lighters in the house so we had no way to cook. To add insult to injury the hot water heaters in the villa were also shut off. We began calling the management company at 6PM on Friday evening (leaving messages on both the main island office, the emergency number, and the main office in the US) and we didn't actually speak to anyone until shortly after 5 on Saturday evening. In the meantime, my wife and I were able to located the gas tank on Saturday mid afternoon and turn it on allowing us to cook, and locate the hot water heater breakers shortly there after to take hot showers. You really shouldnt spend this kind of money to travel and stay here and not have access to the basics. You also shouldnt have to beg for help with an item you paid for.
We love staying on the Reef Bay side of the island and was looking for a larger place for our family of 6 and this house was perfect! We loved all the areas you could hang out in and the views and breezes were great! Our favorite was the covered outdoor kitchen/table area! All the bedrooms/bathrooms were nice. The kitchen was well stocked and the family room even had games. The pool area was nice but stayed quite cool with the winds and shade. We also enjoyed the hot tub under the stars. I wouldn't recommend this home for anyone with mobility issues or small children due to all the stairs. The master bedroom does require stepping outside to reach its bathroom. But the outdoor shower was wonderful! It was also nice to have a washer/dryer. The hike to the beach requires driving to the next street and than a bit of a hike down a steep area. But it was well marked and had rope handles. Worth the hike for the private beach! About a 20 minute drive into Cruz Bay.
My experience while staying at Virgin Seabreeze was absolutely incredible. What a beautiful, quiet and relaxing setting. The view of Reef Bay, from so many areas of the house, was just spectacular. The house itself was very comfortable, but we spent considerable time each day traveling throughout the island. This great location provided easy access to grocery shopping, Cruz Bay as well as some of the most beautiful beaches along the north shore. My daughter and I loved this house and we hope to return very soon. I would like to say thank you to the owners for sharing their home and for enabling this wonderful experience.
Our trip to Virgin Seabreeze was absolutely spectacular!! It is hard
to even find the words to explain to people how amazing the villa, the
view, the weather, the beaches, the snorkeling, the exploring, the
The villa met our every expectation and then some..... Loved the
outside shower! Morning coffee at the outside table was my favorite,
and my husband loved cooking at the grill! We had 3 teens with us and they loved every moment as well!
The pictures on the web site, are an actual representation of the property- it is that great!
Thank you for an amazing experience~ We WILL be back!
Just returned from a one week stay at virgin seebreeze. I was our 6th time in St. John and we even got married there 2 years ago. We have sayed at various locations in St. John including past sloop johns on the east end. This location gives you the peace, tranquility, and amazing views of the east end yet the conveniences of being close to town. The villa is beautiful and well maintained. The outdoor space was ample and the landscaping amazing. The villa was well appointed by Caribbean villas. We have found in the past that either the cleaning people strip the villa of basics or the property management companies just don't go a good job of stocking the necessities. The villa was so lovely and the views so beautiful that we found ourselves staying there more often then going to the beaches and we go there primarily or the beaches! It is a 15 minute drive to town which isn't bad. We did hike down to the trial a d o reef bay beach. Didn't go in the water but its a nice walk and I would recommend it. I would definitely go back and highly recommend this villa!
Reef Bay is on the edge of the National Park on the south coast of St John. the road from Cruz Bay dead ends at Reef Bay and the lack of through traffic keeps this area free from sight seeing tourists and day trippers and insures the tranquility and peacefulness of the area.
