A 2 bedroom chalet that sleeps 4 people, near Maria Alm
Chalet Maria is a 2 bedroom chalet, sleeping 4 people and is situated in the small hamlet of Hintermoos between the town of Maria Alm and the village of Hinterthal, right in the middle of the Hochkonig ski area. Just under an hours drive from Salzburg, the accomodaion is perfect for families or couples. The piste is just 40m from the chalet which is ideal for winter holidays but is also a great base for walking and mountain biking in the summer. We have now agreed with the Hintermoos Huttendorf, to allow guests access to their bar and bakery, which is situated just below the chalet.
The cable car from Hintermoos to Hinterthal is now open and the new run 19 underneath is a great run back, which means the entire Hochkonig area is now connected.

Fantastic, cosy chalet in fabulous and relaxed ski area.
Had a wonderful week at Chalet Maria. Second time there. Lovely and relaxing place.
Chalet Maria is a quiet getaway with all amenities that make a holiday enjoyable. Cosy and warm with fantastic views. This is our second Christmas at Chalet Maria - can't get better.
Great place to stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at Chalet Maria. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped and had an authentic Alpine feel. The view from the balcony was stunning and we enjoyed watching the changing weather conditions during the day and the star filled sky at night. The scenery in the area is beautiful and there's plenty to explore. It's a good base for walking and sightseeing. We would recommend it.
My Dream Chalet Came True!
After searching long and hard, I found my dream chalet in which to celebrate my 50th birthday. The chalet is stunning inside and out: the views are awesome, it is peaceful, tastefully furnished and equipped with all that you could possibly need. You can simply walk up the road and begin skiing (intermediate level); otherwise you can walk down to the gondola and catch the ski bus which takes you to nursery/blue slopes very close by. Walking from the door is magical. There are two places within a few minutes' walk where you can go to for a drink and something to eat. A supermarket is also a short drive away, but you can take the bus if you prefer. To sum up: stunning chalet, incredibly helpful owners from initial enquiry to end of holiday. A beautiful place - good value for money, very clean and lovely people. We are already trying to plan our next visit and imagine this holiday would be just as wonderful in any season. Thank you, Clive and Klaudi for helping me realise my dream!
The chalet was everything we wanted for our Christmas escape. Wonderful views, warm and cosy, great new kitchen and dishwasher, we even cooked a full Christmas lunch, with turkey breast and all the trimmings from Spar supermarket in Saafelden.
Wonderful walks direct from the chalet, all of the ski runs were open, despite the lack of snow elsewhere and a memorable Christmas Eve lunch at the top of the mountain which we could see from the living room.
Comfortable chalet with lovely views from balcony
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the chalet for a couple of weeks. The highlight was the balcony, which we loved sitting out on (the overhang design and the lack of wind means that was possible even when it rained). Elsewhere the chalet was comfortably and attractively furnished, with a well equipped (though extremely poorly lit) kitchen and good shower. The sitting/dining room is larger than it appears in the photos. Wifi worked pretty well. The place was generally clean, but the end cleaning fee, as other guests have noted, is high. For that I'd certainly expect the cobwebs to be removed. Perhaps daily, on demand. :D
The chalet is short on electrical sockets (except in the bathroom which is festooned with them). I only found one, for example, in the second bedroom, rather inconveniently sited half way up the wall by the door. But it's most noticeable in the kitchen where a rather alarming three-way plug allows you to power any three of the toaster, the microwave, the kettle, the coffee machine, and the cooker hood light. I suspect the wrong choice could lead to an overload of the socket. On a minor level, it's worth noting that virtually everything seems to be cleared out of the cupboards between rentals, so there is slightly unusually nothing much left by way of basic consumables (including things like foil and clingfilm, residual washing powder) for guests. We might have been triply unlucky this time, of course, but if not it is a shame that each set of guests has to buy all of these things rather than simply replacing anything they use up.
I'd have liked a rather more extensive set of instructions and house tips than was provided.
The area is lovely. There are numerous walks one can take from the chalet, and Maria Alm itself, three or so miles down the road, is charming and a starting point for a myriad more walks of a variety of levels. There are two decent supermarkets there and better choice again about 8 miles away. The chalet is easy to access. We always try to stay in a place with a good view and this was hands down the most convenient place we have ever rented; everything was very easy and the road system is excellent.
Prospective renters should be aware that, as the listing notes, what you are getting is half the chalet. The immediate neighbour, Bine, who manages the property, is very quiet and most respectful of privacy, but there is no solid divider between the two halves of the balcony.
Many thanks for the review, its most helpful. We have a new kitchen going in this October and will now ensure that there are more sockets added as well as the lighting and a dishwasher which were already on the list of things to do. We will also look to add a welcome pack for guests that includes basic supplies as our cleaners are told to make sure everything is removed between stays, its a fine line to know which people prefer, perhaps this would be the best solution.
We would also love to get your input on the welcome letter and house tips, so will email you directly for your thoughts.
All the best and thanks again for the feedback !
