Juan de Fuca House Rental Photos and Description

4600 Square Foot Three Level Oceanfront Home. 4 Br, 3 1/2 Baths. Sleeps 6-7

Architecturally stunning, award winning, three level luxury oceanfront home. This home was the featured Vancouver Island Home of the Month in March 2012's Boulevard Magazine.

Upon entering the foyer, visitors are dramatically confronted by sweeping unobstructed ocean views via vast expanses glass soaring from the floor to the 25 foot ceiling and skylights. The home gives one the sensation of floating above the sea below. One guest described sitting in the living similar to being on the prowl of an ocean liner

Enjoy breathtaking ocean views from virtually every room in the house. The only sounds one hears are those of the sea. Breathtaking sunset views over the ocean and sensual mood lighting provide the perfect venue for romantic get-aways, honeymoons, or spiritual restitution. Gaze at the ever-changing seascape framed by the distant snow covered Olympic Mountains and the myriad birds and sea mammals.

La Mer is the perfect writer's retreat, the home features a well-stocked library.

Poetry and novels have been inspired and written here; CD's recorded.

La Mer has attracted musicians, scientists, physicists, sculptors, painters as well as an award-winning photographer. She provides a nurturing and inspirational environment for creativity as well as offering a soothing refuge from the madness and chaos of 21st century life

In addition to the main house on the 2nd and 3rd floors, La Mer features a large 2 bedroom suite occupying the entire first floor including its own kitchen, a huge entertainment room, separate laundry room, private ground-level entrances, and of course unobstructed ocean views from every room

Simply Stunning!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely stunning...incredible views...artistic, modern, yet soulful design...very clean and comfortable!! It was very difficult to leave!! Moreover, the owner David and manager, Marlene are wonderful people. They care more about your stay than any owner I've ever dealt with. David went out of his way on multiple occasions to assist us with our stay, including being available by phone before, during and after our stay. I hope this property is available in the future because we can't wait to return. Thanks so much for making our vacation to Vancouver Island awesome!! -The Gaskins

Where the Rainforest Meets The Sea

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a three week stay at La Mer on Vancouver Island. We could not have a chosen a more perfect spot to relax, hike, and sightsee.

I will start with the spectacular house that is like a glass tree house built into the mountain! There are beautiful vistas from every window! We loved watching the fog give way to the sun everyday on the water--with the Olympic Mountain Range as a backdrop. While we were there we saw Orcas, gray whales, sea lions, and an eagles! The kitchen was spacious and came with everything one could need. I enjoyed preparing island meals like crab and fresh halibut! It was so peaceful to just sit on the deck, watch for marine life, look and the boats and enjoy the view!

David and Marlene were excellent and gracious hosts. They guided us on where to eat, hike and take in some unique sights--always spot on! They checked in on us while not being intrusive.

We are not experienced hikers although my sister and husband who visited us during the time were. There are so many trails for all levels of hiking ability. Most trails involve hiking through an ancient rainforest, with ferns, lichen, gnarly roots, towering pines. Most trails led to the rugged rocky coast with magnificent driftwood on the shore. One had petroglyphs (ancient drawings on rocks) that were amazing! One beautiful trail is in French Beach which is just at the end of the street!

We also took in local points of interest like the distillery (across the street), a Mead farm with tastings, a sea salt production company, MANY artisans, local museums--which were all fascinating! The owners/artisans were so friendly and interesting! At the end of the street is a beautiful lighthouse.

There are many great restaurants in the area--many with a view of the sea (lots of binoculars at the restaurant tables!). Our favorite was Wild Mountain restaurant--as well as Point No Point. Most pride themselves on being farm to table restaurants.

Day trips included the Pacific Marine Loop which cuts through the island on steep winding roads that highlight the giant pines and cedars. A trip to Victoria as well as the Salt Spring Islands, had much to offer in terms of wineries (some of the best) more artisans, great food, beautiful scenery.

There really is something for everyone at La Mer and in this part of the island. We were so happy to be a part of the spectacular wilderness--all the while having complete state-of the -art comfort in a gorgeous home!

Family Anniversary Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this amazing private home for 5 nights and would love to have spent more time there. The owner, David, could not have been more accommodating, answering every email, text or phone call in a timely manner. We were greeted warmly by Marlene, who showed us around and answered all our questions. The house was very clean, with incredible views through all the glass windows that face the water or woods! We saw pods of Orca whales, seals, otters and bald eagles...Hummingbirds were feeding just outside the kitchen window....We explored many beaches in the area, hiked trails, visited the Sheringham Distillery which you can literally walk to easily from the house. We celebrated our Anniversary dinner at Point No Point (short drive, excellent food and service with a view of the water). We love to cook, so we got fresh Dungeness Crabs, prawns, and oysters...the kitchen was well appointed with every pan, utensil, or appliance we needed. Quite a selection of books, games, music were also provided. The house was comfortable...we wanted for nothing! Beautiful stars at night as we sat on the deck...we could not ask for more! (no mosquitoes either!)

*We took an earlier reviewer's advice and brought sleeping masks, we definitely needed them as the house is so bright in the early morning sun and if you want to sleep a bit later, it was nice to have them.

We hope to be back again one day!

Terrific! We were recovering from the marathon and this was just a beautiful place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

Directions were perfect. David gave us so much useful info for sports and restaurants. We did love Point no point a restaurant just down the road and our trip to the Buchart gardens. It is a bit far if one forgets the butter, so stock up in Sooke. The house is remarkable. Views incredible. You won't be disappointed. Only negative would be for those who need a king size bed. It was a mite small for big people.

There is everything one needs to cook and entertain and an interesting selection of books

Lovely vacation destination!

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous three-week holiday we had at La Mer in January! The owners were there to greet us and show us around their beautiful, clean home, and also to recommend their favourite local restaurants and attractions. Their kitchen was modern and outfitted with everything we needed to try out new recipes – and we love to cook! Lots to do in the area, we really enjoyed seeing the amazing Sooke Potholes, and the ancient cedars (crazy huge) at Avatar Grove. Came home at the end of a sight-seeing day to enjoy a glass of wine, their fabulous sound system - and incredible water vistas right outside the windows, from every room in the house! We would definitely recommend La Mer.

La Mer

We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday at this property. It was all and more than we expected. The setting and views from the house are amazing. We saw eagles, otters and a pod of whales from the living room windows. The beautiful French beach is a short walk from the house , many hours could be spent here!

The house itself is stunning with lovely features , views and lots of space. It is well equipped, we had children and a grandchild ranging from 21 months to 30 years old and everyone really enjoyed the house and the area. The owner was very helpful and I would recommend this property to anyone. We would all love to go back. We were there from the 30 th May to June 13 th. the arrival date on the review site would not change
