We ran the Fresh Sourdough Express Bakery & Café in Homer Alaska for 30 years and for 12 of those years we also ran A Memorable Experience,” an eco-friendly bed and breakfast and full service destination wedding location. We performed and catered over 100 weddings and accommodated people from around the world. Hence we now have our dream home and business in Hawaii.

I recently graduate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I have been trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. Drawing on all my experience and this knowledge, I now enjoy teaching culinary classes, hosting wellness retreats, and coaching entrepreneurs and individuals choosing to make a change. One of my passions is to help others create a personalized “road map to health” that suits their unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals encompassing soil-to-soul solutions.
We know how important hospitality is and we enjoy it. We love meeting people from around the country and the world and sharing all the magic that this island has to offer. So come for a few nights, a week, or longer, get married here, or renew your vows. We look forward to meeting you!

My wife and I truly enjoyed a taste of "rural" Big Island living. We weren't there long enough but really appreciated the hospitality of our hosts. The bedroom and bath were very comfortable. The "kitchen/dining area" in the garage was a bit different but well supplied and worked very well.
We'd recommend staying here for a taste of more "real" Hawaii living and we plan to return. It's well situated to take in attractions of the north of the Big Island and still be close enough to the great beaches in the Kohala district.
Sushi Rock restaurant in Hawi was terrific.
We were very impressed with our stay at "Always In Season" and would highly recommend it to others. It was our first time on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were in Hawi for a wedding and spent four nights there. Donna and Kevin were very gracious hosts and attentive to our questions and needs. They checked in with us every day to provide suggestions for activities and ways to have an enjoyable time in the Hawi area. We loved the hiking ,snorkeling, and park suggestions. Having fresh fruit-oranges, grapefruit, lemons, bananas and papaya every day from their bounteous garden was a real treat! There was a fruit juicer and blender in the kitchen, so we were able to make our protein smoothies every day. We enjoyed eating the fruit without juicing as well as it was so sweet and juicy. We enjoyed having coffee outside in the morning, and a glass of wine in the evening with the wonderful view of the ocean, of their garden and sheep, and with the horses next door. The bedroom and bathroom were downright comfortable, and we had a lot of privacy. The views from the bedroom and bathroom of the garden area were lovely. The kitchen provided all the usual necessities and more. It had a sitting area and a view of the front yard if you wanted it. There was also another separate sitting room on the property to read or relax with views of the garden. All in all, we wish we had more time to spend there and will return to the wonderful Always in Season VRBO.
We loved our stay at Always in Season. It's hard to decide which aspect was best. I think picking fresh citrus and squeezing fresh juice was among the top. The property was lovely and quiet. We were able to relax in the privacy of the yard. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on. Donna and Kevin were lovely hosts, giving us great advice on where to go as we visited the area. I would highly recommend Always in Season and I hope to return.
This property was exactly as described on VRBO and the Always-in-Season Retreat personal site. A beautiful 3 acre property with varied vegetation including fruit bearing trees, a perfect site at 1500 feet elevation with views of the ocean and Maui across the channel, and comfortable evening temperatures. Our hosts Donna and Kevin were welcoming and friendly, and interesting conversationalists. We had a thoroughly relaxing month stay - the Kawi-North Kohala area has much of interest, and the 19 mile ride along the ridge to Waimea is worth doing more than once. This property is a good alternative to a resort or condo stay.
The location is spectacular, but the view from the renter's quarters didn't have that view. From the window there was a water view. The sunsets weren't visible unless you walked through the grass & stood or brought a chair & sat in the middle of the lawn. I expected to watch the sunset from the comfort of an area inside or near the room - perhaps with a glass of wine.
The large bedroom/LR was musty-smelling & the couch fabric was worn-out/frayed in several places. It definitely is in need of some updating.
But the most disappointing of all was being shown the kitchen & dining/sitting area which is in the garage!!! They specially write about the kitchen in the description. Not my idea of a kitchen. I ate in the bedroom, as I found it positively skivvy to eat at a table with a placemat, in a garage with a washer/dryer, storage areas & a total lack of ambiance.
They're a very nice couple, but that does not diminish my disappointment in this rental.
We enjoyed 5 days at the “Always in Season” resort. Donna greeted us with an overflowing basket of tropical fruit and beautiful flowers from her 3-acre farm, and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There is a separate eating area well-equipped for cooking your meals, or for blending up a fruit smoothie. At 1,500 feet above the ocean, we had good views of Maui and the sunsets once the tropical storms passed (luckily the hurricanes bypassed the island). The pictures on the VRBO site well-represented the setting, which is quiet, peaceful, and lush, with fresh fruit to pick as it ripens (the bananas and papayas were tasty). The Saturday Market in Hawi was a good place to sample unusual tropical fruit, and the local coffee shop served the best iced Kona coffee. Donna was happy to provide detailed information about the local swimming spots, the markets, events in Hawi, and her favorite places to hike. It was fun to get acquainted with Chester the dog, too.
Hawi, is known as North Kohala’s biggest little town. It is the bicycle turnaround for the annual Ironman World Championship held every October, the best whale watching coastline, delicious eateries, brilliant artits and musicians, organic farming, unique shopping opportunities, wonderful alternative healers including massage therapists, acupuncture, naturopath’s, herbalists, yoga therapists and more .
This charming historic town is situated on the northern tip of the Big Island rich with rich history and culture.
The Climate is a bit cooler than the hot coastline and we get our share of refreshing, revitalizing wind, which keeps the air some of the cleanest in the world.
A few miles north of Hawi is the fun historic town of Kapaau, home of the original King Kamehameha I Statue. Here you will find Kamehameha Park, which offers free use of great tennis courts, a public swimming pool and wonderful children’s playground. There is even a small user-friendly golf course for a nominal fee.
Continue driving east on Highway 270 and you’ll literally come to the end of the road at the stunning Pololu Valley Overlook where you can enjoy a spectacular view and hike down to the valley. Keokea Beach Park is not to be missed as a wonderful place for picnic.
A few Miles south of Hawi are my favorite swimming and snorkeling spots on the Island. We will have to guide you to get to some of them. Mahukona Beach Park is my favorite place to whale watch and swim. If you want to fish, we can send you in the right direction. There are many historical sites and parks along the coastline to enjoy. Kawaihae is 17 miles away and offers great dinning and music at the Blue Dragon Restaurant, or you can enjoy Café Pesto’s cuisine. This is also where one of the islands most used harbor resides and where the old style Canoe teams launch their boats.
We have a great Farmers Market every Saturday under the majestic Banyan Tree. Terrific Art Galleries, excellent restaurants, and endless entertainment await you in the quaint villages of Hawi and Kapaau.
Guests can go on energizing hikes using the nearby trails. Kohala Zipline and other fun Eco Tours are 5-10 minutes away.
Mahukona Beach Park and spectacular Pololu Valley are just a 15 minute drive away.
Always In Season is a 1 hour drive from the Kona Airport and close to just about anything this magical Island has to offer. We love assisting our guests with their island vacation.
There are also wonderful class's and events at the Kohala Village Hub, Yoga in several places, Check at GoKohala website.
