Beautiful location nestled between the mouth of the river and the ocean at Honolii Beach. The River House is a rustic family style home which has 180 degree views starting with the river then panning out over the ocean and is only 5 minutes from Hilo.

Simple and beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

The location and simplicity of the house is outstanding. Windows, fresh air and natural light fill the house during the day. Being able to walk right into the ocean from the property and walk right out with an outdoor shower waiting is incredibly cool. Whether you surf yourself or enjoy watching, this is one of the better breaks in all of Hilo. The surfers were all friendly and inviting. Not intimidating and territorial like some beaches in SoCal. Minutes from downtown Hilo with great grocery stores and restaurants and in close proximity to Volcano National Park made this a great home base for our two families who shared the house. Turn off the electronics and come stay in the non-commercialized, nature's resort! Aloha

Huge house, perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better location for our vacation on the Big Island. We were two families (9 people) staying together in the house, which proved to be even more spacious than it looks in the photos. Everyone had ample room to themselves. And so many bathrooms! The house was well-stocked with everything we needed and the view of the river and the ocean are breathtaking. I was a little nervous about traffic noise, being so close to the overpass, but it wasn't an issue at all. This place is a little piece of heaven. We would rent it again in a heartbeat.

The perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a wonderful trip. It was everything we'd expected and hoped for. The house is fascinating with spacious rooms and beautiful views. I do wish I'd brought a book to leave on the shelves, as the collection is rather eclectic and fun to browse through. Kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, utensils, glasses, even wine glasses. There is a table and umbrella out back which was nice to sit under when it rained. There are box fans near the laundry room which help to move air through the house if it gets muggy.

The beach isn't *as* accessible as I thought it would be; you've got to go up to the street and back down a stair case to get there (or swim across the mountain-runoff river). You will see surfers from the front yard as most of the beach that they have access to is rocky rather than sandy and surfable. Still boasts a beautiful view in every direction. I worried that the highway above would be loud but the rain and the ocean were louder. The car traffic noise wasn't a problem at all.

Absolutely gorgeous property and I very sincerely hope to stay there again. Most memorable vacation yet!

- Akaka Falls is 15 minutes north and is a magnificent and majestic waterfall.
