Zigzag Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful 2-Bedroom Cabin in the Mt Hood Forest close to Hiking and Skiing

The Alderwood Cabin is a unique 1030 square foot Cabin in the foothills cascade mountain range at the base of Mt Hood. It was originally built in 1945 but has been extensively remodeled and updated. Solid Pine paneling on the walls and ceiling surround the living space in warmth and comfort. The two bedrooms both contain queen beds and closets. The second bedroom also has a writing desk. Windows in every direction give relaxing views of the surrounding forest. There is a high efficiency, easy-to-use cast-iron wood stove imported from Denmark. Firewood is provided. Electric heat is also available in every room. The full kitchen is ready to use and has an oven, dishwasher, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster, and blender. We have a small TV and DVD player, a game room, and an eclectic selection of books. A huge deck in the back is surrounded by forest and is a great place for a picnic. A 5 minute hike from the house leads to the Zig Zag river. High speed wireless internet.

About Martin

My name is Martin. I was born in Oregon and I like all kinds of outdoor activities. I hike, bike, surf, run, rock climb, ski, fish, raft, and camp. I write and play music. Nothing is better than great friends, great beer, and great food. I live in Southeast Portland. Other than managing two cabins, I work as an electrical engineer at Intel designing circuits for the worlds most advanced computer chips.

Martin purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Martin chose Mount Hood

I bought my other cabin, the Bon Fir Cabin, in 2008 and I really enjoy reading the guestbook about all the fun adventures people have. I love hearing about how much people love staying there. So I looked around for 2 years and finally found a perfect second cabin to buy. I bought the Alderwood Cabin in 2012 because of the beautiful wood interior and the private forest views. I put my personal touch into repairing and fixing it up and I hope you enjoy it!

What makes this cabin unique

I love getting a warm fire going in the wood stove and sitting with friends and family watching the flames through the glass.

Cozy cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog and I made our way out of the city for a relaxing two night stint at the Alderwood cabin. It is a quick jaunt from PDX and provided a much needed relaxing retreat. We spent a little time hiking around Timberline but were happy to come back to the cabin, snuggle up and play cribbage or watch a movie. The cabin is comfortable and stocked as well as I would have expected. If you're picky about cooking utensils/containers you should bring your own otherwise you'll find enough to get you by in the cabin. We were please by the cleanliness, ease to get to walking trails and peace and quiet that it provided. We are already dreaming of a return trip in the Winter :)

Clean, comfortable, nicely equipped.

  • 4 of 5

Nice cabin in the woods with a lovely deck area outside. Very comfortable, cozy place to visit. My husband and I were there with my parents, who are in great shape, but older. Most of the rooms are either a step up or a step down from the adjacent room, which can be tricky to navigate, particularly at night. Would benefit greatly from more screens in windows so we could really open the place up (it was in the 90s).

Clearly owners have given thought and care to renters' needs and comfort. (If anyone has rented a place(s) where this is not the case, you know what I'm talking about -- and it makes such a huge difference.)

Thanks very much to Martin (and the very sweet on-site cleaning lady) for patience and humor when there was a hiccup in our reservation (completely my fault), and we had to scramble to get out before next guests checked in.

This was a lovely cabin and we really enjoyed our stay. There is a beautiful trail just behind it.

This cabin feels so secluded and private, but it's just off the highway and a short drive to everything. It's in a stunning forest with an awesome trail to the water. Our family enjoyed our stay a lot and will return!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Nice cabin and great for a weekend, or longer get-away. Although there are neighbors, they're far enough away with enough tree cover that you still get a nice secluded feel. Cabin itself is in great shape, with all the amenities. The stove works great to heat it and there's plenty of firewood to go around. Great spot for 2 people for a couple days, and close enough to both hiking/skiing locations and stores/restaurants/bars to be perfect. We'll definitely be back.

Mountain Bliss

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is perfect! The setting is glorious . . . remote, but not remote. Hiking trail right outside the door. Beautiful décor! Our family of 4 felt right at home the minute we walked in and experienced this warm and cozy cabin. Very clean and well-stocked. We could have stayed here forever. This is definitely a place you won't regret booking.

Thank you so much to the owner who was amazing and very helpful! We all had such a great time. The cabin was perfect, very cute and cozy. The property was beautiful and we loved the backyard and deck. Everything was covered in snow which was exactly what we wanted. Our friends that came definitely want to rent the cabin for their families and we will rent again. Thank you for the amazing memories!
