Beautiful 2-Bedroom Cabin in the Mt Hood Forest close to Hiking and Skiing
The Alderwood Cabin is a unique 1030 square foot Cabin in the foothills cascade mountain range at the base of Mt Hood. It was originally built in 1945 but has been extensively remodeled and updated. Solid Pine paneling on the walls and ceiling surround the living space in warmth and comfort. The two bedrooms both contain queen beds and closets. The second bedroom also has a writing desk. Windows in every direction give relaxing views of the surrounding forest. There is a high efficiency, easy-to-use cast-iron wood stove imported from Denmark. Firewood is provided. Electric heat is also available in every room. The full kitchen is ready to use and has an oven, dishwasher, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster, and blender. We have a small TV and DVD player, a game room, and an eclectic selection of books. A huge deck in the back is surrounded by forest and is a great place for a picnic. A 5 minute hike from the house leads to the Zig Zag river. High speed wireless internet.

My name is Martin. I was born in Oregon and I like all kinds of outdoor activities. I hike, bike, surf, run, rock climb, ski, fish, raft, and camp. I write and play music. Nothing is better than great friends, great beer, and great food. I live in Southeast Portland. Other than managing two cabins, I work as an electrical engineer at Intel designing circuits for the worlds most advanced computer chips.
Martin purchased this Cabin in 2012
Why Martin chose Zigzag
I bought my other cabin, the Bon Fir Cabin, in 2008 and I really enjoy reading the guestbook about all the fun adventures people have. I love hearing about how much people love staying there. So I looked around for 2 years and finally found a perfect second cabin to buy. I bought the Alderwood Cabin in 2012 because of the beautiful wood interior and the private forest views. I put my personal touch into repairing and fixing it up and I hope you enjoy it!
What makes this Cabin unique
I love getting a warm fire going in the wood stove and sitting with friends and family watching the flames through the glass.

Cozy and peaceful
Took my wife here for her birthday over the weekend. A good mix of house and cabin. Was really quiet, very relaxing and sitting in the dark and watching the fire while it snowed was really great. Loaded with good vinyl records and a good selection of board games to play so you can enjoy the view of the woods around you while having fun. Great location for getting to the best restaurants in the area, ranger station and a short drive from several great hikes.
Cute and Cozy
This was the perfect little weekend getaway!
This is a cute place. Very clean and well maintained. Wood burning stove kept the place super warm. Only suggestion is to add a little more comfy seating. There were 4 of us and the couch was a small love seat. Only other seating options were dining room chairs. Not super comfy for everyone if you all just want to sit and visit.
Sweet cottage with some limitations
Overall the cottage was pleasant, cozy, and clean. The dining area is pleasant, and the old records and turntable were a hoot. However, it's not as isolated as it seems in the pictures. There isn't enough comfortable seating in the living room. Couch seats only two, three at most, so if you have four, as we did, you have to sit on hard chairs if you want to have a conversation. The TV is tiny and can only be viewed from the couch.
The stove is small, the broiler didn't work and there isn't a BBQ at the house. We brought steaks and had to pan fry them. The sheets felt like burlap. The curtains hang on makeshift rods that falls off when touched. The second bedroom is wall to wall queen bed with barely enough room to walk around it. It is claustrophobic, and the window doesn't open, so no fresh air.
We definitely will come back! :-)
Cozy cabin with an enjoyable walk along the river just off the back patio.
The owners clearly put great thought into the parlor area, which features a fascinating collection of records, books, and historical memorabilia.
