Our Home is an easy walk to Corn Field Point Private Beach (one block away). As our guests, you will be able to access all of the Corn Field Point Association resources; with full use of the beaches, tennis court, boat launch, and club house. The house is located just half a mile away from Harvey's Beach State Park where there is kite boarding, and wind surfing – fun to watch if you don't yet indulge.
The house sleeps up to 8 comfortably. There are 3 bedrooms on the second floor with a half bath. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with ample room for extra futon bed rolls (available at the house) for children. The second upper bedroom has a queen size bed. The third bed room has a twin bed with another TV set.
The first floor has a full kitchen with a dining area; a living room with a couch that folds out into a queen bed ; and, another queen futon fold down/bed. There is a flat screen HD-TV, with a blue ray player, Netflix, Pandora Radio, Hulu, and augmented cable stations, all included.
Attached to the kitchen is a sun room, with sliding doors to a full deck. The sun room also has a fold out klick-klack full size bed. The bath room on the first floor has a shower, and washer and dryer for use. There is a cloths line attached to the deck if you prefer to dry in the sea air.
The first floor is very accessible for guests with any mobility concerns. The sun-room was built for my uncle who was not able to move around quickly. The Hot Tub is steps away from this sun room. No steps up or down once you are at the deck level, which is only three steps up from the drive way/ground level. The kitchen, bathroom, deck, living room are all on the same level.
The deck is the jewel of the house. It has a built-in gazebo, with dining table, chandelier and chairs. There is a gas grill complete with gas for your use. The hot and cold out door shower which is nicely enclosed, is on the deck at level, just steps from the hot tub, which seats up to 5 people. The deck has gates so the entire deck can be closed off to ensure that little ones or dogs do not wander off (the deck is only 1.5 feet above ground level). Easy to contain toddlers while you grill. The hot tub has a safety cover so children and pets are not at risk when the tub is not in use. The height of the deck off of the lawn, along with a mild sea breeze makes the gazebo the perfect place to entertain out of doors in the summer. We love this part about our house and spend many hours visiting and playing outside where Summer happens: rain and shine.
We have a large driveway with enough off street parking for 6 cars. The neighborhood is not situated for on street parking so all parking is off street. The driveway is lined by very old maple trees and there is a separate tree lined side lawn for playing games: just a great place to play boccie and croquet. The house is situated between the beach and an estuary, which is spectacular. It is a wonderful place to drop a kayak into the water and paddle around and a bird watchers paradise. There is also good crabbing to be had. Among the indigenous wildlife are: egret, blue heron, osprey, fox and coyote that can be observed moving about the estuary.
Years ago I purchased this house in Old Saybrook because my father and I were to live here. My Dad had a fondness for Katherine Hepburn, who lived down the road in Fenwick, and so I purchased and remodeled this home for us. Now that that generation has passed on, I am able to enjoy the 'Kate' Art space in Old Saybrook, and I have this marvelous home which I live in for part of the year.
Our family has always lived near the Long Island Sound in Connecticut. My name is Chris-'Thopher' and I am only one of the many family members who love this home. My cousins and I live here for part of the summer, and they help me to manage the property while I live with them for part of the year. I consider myself a bit of a nomadic traveler. I live part of the year in Seattle, Washington, part of the year in Old Saybrook and sometimes in Upstate New York. I am the Faux Pas for my cousin's 3 children and one grand-daughter, while I am in Seattle. My grand-daughter (that's her!) fondly refers to me as 'Garanpa Buhhda'.
I am a retired professional, who now enjoys travel, family gatherings, and time in the Adirondacks. I have set up my home as a center for family gatherings, quests, visits, and professional relaxation. By this, I mean that not all travel can be time off from work so the house allows for quiet work time as well as holiday travel.
I have a wonder-filled life. I love to share my home with guests who have all enjoyed what I have set out to create here in Old Saybrook, CT.
Bio- If you will;
I am a retired Chemist. Born and raised in Trumbull, Connecticut to parents who were both teachers. I love education, so I have a good share of that sort of thing. I studied at U-Conn and McGill, in Montreal, where I studied and taught. I then worked in England for one year.
I returned to Connecticut to work here, and lived for many years in Old Lyme, CT. In 1999, I decided to purchase the home along the Connecticut shore line as a destination for friends and family.
Beth-Anne Lye purchased this house in 2001
This property has good KARMA.
Again, this house was purchased so my Dad and I could have a shared home together. He loved this area. It was exciting to live near Katherine Hepburn, who lived down the way. Now there is this beautiful retreat to share. I am a person who has the good fortune to have a wonderful family around me -- a place for you and your family to share the quiet moments found uniquely at the beach, or on an adventure to New York City, Boston, or one of hundreds of Connecticut destinations, which include both historic locations and casinos - all less than 2 hours from the house.
The coast, and this neighborhood in particular, is very warm and inviting. There are gatherings in the summer at the beach were I have danced with other guests and owners who, I may not even know, but who are here for the summer. I have always felt welcomed, enjoying the warmth of the people of this area.
HOT TUB. Private Gazebo on a beautiful deck. Boat launch, Estuary, Good KARMA, Lots of comfortable places to relax, play, and frolic. Bocchi and Crochette in our huge yard adjacent to the house [we own 3 lots] all available here for your enjoyment...
My family and I had the pleasure of renting this lovely home. We feel in love with its charm. It is a delightful mix of old and new. There was ample space for our family of six. It has a spacious living room with plenty of seating for all. My grandson especially enjoyed having his very own room. Having two bathrooms was a plus. The best feature of the house was the expansive deck that had a lovely gazebo and an awesome hot tub. We spent a great deal of time there. We loved cooking our meals in the kitchen or on the grill and eating under the gazebo on the table. We brought our small dog and she loved hanging out on the deck which is enclosed. The yard is huge and very private! The house is very close to a lovely private beach. We loved the neighborhood. It was very quaint and quiet. Old Saybrook is a special place. There are some nice shops and restaurants downtown that we frequented. Thanks Chris and Beth-Anne for sharing this special place. We look forward to booking again next year.
A lovely place to unwind, with all of the idilic peace of a sea-side home, yet near enough to any of several transportation-hubs that one could be in Manhattan or Back Bay within hours of getting out of the hot tub. The owner is congenial and accommodating. The house itself very quickly feels like "home". The neighborhood is bounded by the shore and a salt marsh giving one a chance to savor nature while staying in a modern New England setting rich in near-by amenities. There are ospreys in the marsh, a flock of exotic parrots inhabiting neighboring trees, and a multitude of stars, free from city lights, to savor with a glass of wine from the hot tub or patio. There are restaurants, clam-shacks, and bars minutes away; and cinemas, theaters, Summer fairs, & arts for miles in all directions from this location. Having stayed here many times I could not be happier than to return, nor more honored to recommend it to anyone with occasion to stay on the Connecticut shore.
You may enjoy Private Beach access to Corn Field Point Beach, in addition to Harvey's Beach State Park, which is just 3/4 mile away for wind surfing. Old Saybrook is located at the mouth of the Connecticut river in Long Island sound. The house is half a block from one of the most beautiful estuaries in the area. This is a great place to go kayaking for the day. The Connecticut river valley is rich with culture. Here you will find great little towns dotting the river that are steeped in history. Try Essex Connecticut with one of the oldest coffee houses still serving and the Griswold Inn has a bar and restaurant preserving the flavor of an old New England eatery. Just minutes from the house, is the Katherine Hepburn Museum in downtown Old Saybrook . Which offers a broad venue of theater and music. Mystic Seaport, Mystic Village, Wooster Square Italian Pizza Pillars in New Have or a tour of the Yale Campus are all great day trips. The house is ideally located for almost any area that you would choose to visit in Connecticut Rhode Island, or New York. Both Boston and New York City are just a train ride away starting from the downtown Old Saybrook train station, which lets you step back into the earlier days of a small town train station.
