Overview

New Mexico House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps, Modern Adobe

'It was all so far away--there was quiet and an untouched feel to the country and I could work as I pleased.' Georgia O'Keeffe

Serenity abounds at Casa Bonita, where it is easy to see why this country had such a profound impact on Georgia O'Keeffe. Light and open, this modern adobe rests on ten acres overlooking Abiquiu Lake towards Ghost Ranch, with gorgeous views in all directions. Picture windows throughout the living area allow you to appreciate the vistas from the comfort of the well-appointed interior. The covered portales (covered porches) are ideal for enjoying the tranquility of the environment. Admire the view of the Pedernal from the portale off of the master suite, or take in the iconic landscape of Ghost Ranch while you grill on the portale off of the kitchen.

Spend your days hiking, visiting area galleries, or reconnecting with your own creative side. And after enjoying the unique sunset at the end of the day, savor the starlight of the unadulterated night sky.

'My first memory is of light--the brightness of light--light all around.' Georgia O'Keeffe

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 7 nights and I wish it was 14 nights. If you want quiet solitude, this is the place. My husband and I stayed here to be away from people, cars, and noise and we were. We felt so at home instantly. The house is laid out nicely for 2 people and is very comfortable. We stared out of the window for hours at Ghost Ranch and the lake. This is not a place if you want convenience to stores, etc. If you like rocks...this is the place. If you like staring at the stars over Pedernal at night, this is the place. Loved it.

It is subdivided for many other homes to be built so we don't know about next year but right now, it is exquisite.

A great get-away!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed out stay at Casa Bonita. The views of the mountains and cliffs from the house were beautiful. The house itself has everything you need. The drive to the house takes about 20 minutes on a dirt road but it is not a bad road (we are country folks so we are used to dirt roads). The directions to house were spot - on and we had no trouble finding the house. The owners were great to work with. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay at Casa Bonita!

Amazing Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Casa Bonita is beautiful. The pictures provided do not do justice to the views. My wife and I decided we weren't leaving the house for the duration as soon as we walked in. I don't know why anyone would need the television. The house was both cozy and one with the landscape. We sure didn't want to go home, and we will be back. I recommend staying here but also want it all to ourselves...

Fabulous Stay in Abiquiu

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home with views that will take your breath away. The property is situated so there is no sense of other houses around and it's just you, the back of Ghost Ranch, Pedernal, and the sage brush. The pictures tell the truth.

We did not want to leave the house! But there is wonderful hiking just around the house and close by up to Pedernal and into the Plaza Blanco. Don't miss El Farilito in El Rito - fabulous, home made food by lovely people. The other people dining become your friends instantly and great conversations can be had. Other than one night out, we loved cooking in a well appointed kitchen and having a glass of wine on the portal at sunset. The skies were fabulous - and lucky us, we got to see the five bright planets align in the dawn sky. Who knows what will be visible next year. We are coming back!

Beautiful house, beautiful view and wonderful experience staying in Casa Bonita!

  • 5 of 5

I can't express how much we liked the casa except to say that the view, the solitude and comfort made this VRBO easily the best one we have stayed in. Our biggest regret was staying too long in Santa Fe and therefore squandering the time we could have used to stay here! Hopefully we can make this an annual destination from Montana. The directions and helpful notes helped make our stay delightful.

Stellar

  • 5 of 5

This property was absolutely perfect. Even if it were a run down shack, the views would have been worth it. Private, secluded, well appointed, we couldn't have asked for more except to have had another day or so to just sit. Our stay was only two nights, so we spent a lot of time coming and going. Ideally we would have stayed another day and gotten provisions. Maybe next time. If you decide to stay here, know that it takes at least 20 minutes to get to the highway, so coming and going is not quick. But again, it's worth it. There are only 2 other houses within sight and you'd need binoculars to see them.

We did take time to hike down the arroyo to the lake. Don't be misled. It's like Vegas, "oh it's just right over there...." 45 minutes later you're still walking. The scale is misleading, it's a lot further than it looks! But beautiful. Getting back was tricky as we decided to follow along the top edge of the arroyo. Turns out, there were two arroyos, so we were off track a bit just as the sun was going down. Fortunately, the reflective windows on the house caught our eye, and we got back on track. I will always remember sitting in the swivel barrel back chairs, admiring the ghost ranch view through the picture windows until darkness fell and we realized we were staring at our reflections in the glass. So we turned out the lights and looked at the stars. Amazing.

We did have one snafu. Due to a scheduling mishap, the house hadn't been made ready, but the house managers were readily available and made it right. No big deal. The wifi worked great, TV worked. Fully functional kitchen and accessories. No issues at all.

We went to Bode's market which has a surprising variety of goods for a small store. Also picked up lunch there for a Ghost Ranch picnic and it was awesome. Also had an amazing lunch at the Abiquiu Inn on the patio on a crystal blue sky day. (they do sell alcohol, by the way. The house notes said they did not). We had dinner at El Paragua in Espanola one night. But they close early, and lock the doors before closing time, so get there promptly. Food was great on our second try. :)

All in all an amazing place.
