Bend Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + sofa bed in upstairs living area, 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 8).

Tumalo Lake Lodge is located 12 miles west of Bend, Oregon on a unique 640 acre private parcel of forested land surrounded on all sides by the Deschutes National Forest, with limitless trails for hiking, biking, x-country skiing and snowshoeing, and canoeing, kayaking and SUP on Tumalo lake, right outside your door.

The Lakeside East Cabin was completed in June, 2013 and is a high-end masterpiece of craftsmanship, constructed of huge rough sawn Douglas Fir beams, Cedar siding and shakes. Huge windows in every room provide a tree-house sensation with amazing views of nature in every direction. The large wrap-around deck and comfortable Adirondack chairs and rockers allow for relaxing in the fresh air while taking in the gorgeous natural surroundings and views.

The beautiful furnishings create an ambiance of casual luxury. The cabin's interior features knotty pine wood walls, doors and trim, Knotty Alder cabinets, and granite countertops. The first floor open floor plan includes radiant heated floors with Italian tile and decorative rugs. The living area has a wood burning stove and huge windows with lake views. The dining room has huge windows with forest views. The kitchen area features granite countertops and stainless appliances including a Jenn-Air professional stove. A first floor bedroom has french doors opening to the deck with views of both Tumalo Lake and the forest.

The second floor features gorgeous high-pitched wood ceilings, two bedrooms with private baths and a second large living room area with sofa bed. The upstairs living area has huge windows with commanding views of the lake.

Bedrooms feature queen or king size iron beds with quilts, cozy down comforters and pillows, and luxurious 500 thread count sheets. Each bedroom has amazing views in two or three directions including lake views. The private baths feature a shower over bathtub, granite counter tops, Italian tile, radiant heated floors, luxury towels, organic shampoo and body lotion amenities, and hair dryer.

Lakeside East and Lakeside West cabins are each very private, but in close enough proximity to easily accommodate a larger group renting the two cabins together.

The Lakeside East Cabin has WIFI however it can be slow, erratic and have occasional outages. A phone land line in the cabin is provided with free unlimited U.S. calls. Please note that performance of cell phones is inconsistent depending on carrier and area on the property so cannot be relied on.

About Bill Houck

Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining the necessary land use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October 2011, the Creekside Cabin in June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin in June, 2013 and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main central lodge will be built.

Bill Houck purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Bill Houck chose Central Oregon

Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well known for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc. Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to Bend.

We believe this is a very special place and think you will feel the same way after visiting.

What makes this cabin unique

The quality of this cabin combined with the seclusion and beauty of the property only 12 miles from Bend is unlike any other venue.

An amazing hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

The cabin at Tumalo Lake was simply fantastic. The cabin was well furnished, it was completely quiet and there are lots of fun things do do right out the door: mountain and rode biking, hiking, kayaking, SUP, etc. And the jacuzzi was a great way to start, or end, the day. We even canoed out to the floating dock for evening cocktails.

Private cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just beautiful and perfect for our party of 7. The area was quiet and relaxing but there was also lots to do. There is a trail around the lake, paddle boards, canoes, games, etc. there were 5 adults and two children and I can honestly say everyone had a wonderful time. Tumalo Falls is just a short distance from the cabin and is worth the trip, we visited it twice while we were there. The Lava Caves were also worth seeing, maybe a half hour drive . We will definately go back to this beautiful place.

Great cabin in a private scenic setting-Lakeside East cabin

  • 5 of 5

Although the cabin had no electricity when we initially checked in due to an area power outage, Bill made sure the wood stove was on that we ok. He even stopped by in the evening to make all was well.

Great space and area for families and a short distance from Tumalo Falls. First floor bedroom has french doors opening to the hot tub area.

All amenities were included like shampoo/conditioner, etc. including all the fire wood you need for both the outdoor fire pit next to lake to the wood stove, which was very convenient for us.

Cabin is in a scenic secluded area, which was a plus for us.

I will definitely return and my family thoroughly enjoyed the cabin.

Tumalo Lake Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I took a 4 day getaway to Bend for a 30th birthday trip. We found Tumalo Lake Lodges on VRBO and were blown away by the pictures. We booked immediately. The drive from Eugene was about 2.5 hours to Bend and from there, we drove about 15 minutes out to Tumalo. Once you get to the road for the lake, you drive a couple miles up into the mountains. The owner of this cabin has 3 others all close by. There's only one road in and out. It's the perfect amount of seclusion for a mountain getaway! When we arrived, the road had been plowed and cleaned up so it would be easier to drive on. I definitely recommend a SUV if you come out here during the winter. And I definitely recommend the winter because it was BEAUTIFUL! There aren't enough words to describe how amazing this place was. The owner Bill met us at the cabin, even at 8pm, to show us around. It was really nice that he wasn't picky about our arrival time, we all really appreciated that. He showed us around the cabin and gave us the keys. The cabin itself is extremely spacious and beautiful. You can tell they really take care of it. It had three bedrooms, two upstairs and one down. Our favorite parts were the huge windows to see outside and the hot tub on the deck! When we woke up in the morning and were actually able to see the landscape around us, it was amazing. There really aren't any words to describe it. The deck for the lake was right by our cabin and they had someone come out every day we were there to clean it off. They also made sure to put bark down on the steps for us to make it safe for walking. They even didn't mind when we called to have someone build a fire for us in the fireplace because us 4 girls in the wilderness couldn't figure it out! Haha. The snow started falling after the second day and we gained about a foot. We were nervous to drive out on it and Bill reassured us we would get out fine. After we made it out (easily) the owner even called us to make sure we were A-OK! He was so nice and I would love to come back in the summer time... if not another time this winter! I don't have enough good words about this place!

Lakeside East

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I celebrated my birthday at this gorgeous home over a winter weekend. Though some might disagree, we felt blessed with a white weekend of at least a couple feet of snow - it was fabulous! The home was very well appointed with much more than was needed for preparing several home made meals. Despite the cold and blustery snowstorm that ensued outside, we stayed warm and extremely comfortable in every inch of the home, as well as in the soothing hot tub overlooking the private lake. (Needless to say, we are all sold on radiant floor heat.)

Bill was very detailed and helpful with preparing us for the weekend (4 wheel drive and chains is a must in the snow), while Avery was warm and accommodating with getting us settled in, as well as assisting us in traveling out through the fresh snowfall. This is a very special property and my only regret is staying for only a weekend. I'm already making plans for a week long trip during the summer season.

If you appreciate the simplicity and solitude of being in the middle of a secluded forest, but in the comfort of a luxurious NW lodge, this place is perfect for you. However, if you prefer to stay wired in and within close proximity to retail services you might want to consider staying closer to town. This is a one of a kind location and we all appreciated the unique opportunity to have experienced it. Thank you Bill and Tracey for sharing your paradise!
