About the property

4 bedroom, 4 1/2 baths in a beautiful, park-like setting with many mature trees

The Treehouse is an incredible three-story home (with its own 4-person Otis elevator!!) located in an exclusive, gated community of only 6 grand residences. Set in the most sought after part of San Miguel, the homes in this private enclave were all designed and built by the famous Hawaiian architect, Norman Lacayo. His vision was to create a seamless juxtaposition of modern angles with the warmth and charm of old, colonial Mexico and the tranquility of nature. Because 2 large, mature trees on the building site were saved and incorporated into the walls of this home when it was designed, locals often refer to it as 'The Treehouse'.

Hallmarks of this elegant home are the soothing shades of charcoal, cafe, cream, gold, deep red and violet. The clean lines, contemporary furnishings and soothing decorative style are a refreshing change from the sometimes overwhelming bright Mexican colors and tiles!

Besides its beauty, the Treehouse also enjoys the most prestigious locale available in San Miguel; one block south on the beautiful tree-lined street, Cañadita de Los Aguacates. It is situated right next to the historic Sierra Nevada Hotel and very close to the luxurious Rosewood and Matilda boutique hotels. Only 1 short block away is the Parque Juarez (our beautiful, tree and plant-filled park), where you'll find a popular basketball court, morning exercise classes (yoga/zumba/tai chi), a myriad of walkers/runners all hours of the day, a modern playground for the kids, various ice cream and snack vendors, local marching bands practicing for their upcoming parade, and possibly even young men honing their bullfighting skills - without the bulls of course! Only 4.5 blocks away, along the charming street Calle Recreo, is the Jardin Principal (the main square in the historic center), where you'll find daily/nightly music and art events and various local food vendor carts.

When staying at the Treehouse, you'll enjoy being within an easy walk to almost everything. Yet, when you are ready to return, you'll enter a peaceful, private and safe abode. Guests frequently comment on the utter tranquility one feels while relaxing in this quiet, extremely comfortable and safe home. Usually, the loudest thing you'll hear is the mourning doves singing outside your windows!

When you first enter our home from the front (ground floor), immediately on your right, you'll find our large, guest bedroom with king-sized bed, private bath, wooden desk and leather desk chair - if you must work while on vacation! Its wall of windows look out onto our cobble-stoned entrance area (with parking for 1 car) that's shaded by large, mature trees. Take our elevator, or the stairs, and ascend to the first floor where you will find the other 3 bedrooms. These bedrooms are comprised of 2 master suites, each with a king bed and private bath and an additional small, but cozy bedroom next to the guest suite that's perfect for children, teens or a nanny, as it has its own private bath and a twin daybed with an additional twin pull-out trundle bed beneath. On the second floor (top floor), with views across the park and church spires of San Miguel, you'll find a very well-stocked kitchen, wet bar, living room, dining area for 8 and a glorious, outdoor entertainment area. Another more intimate patio is just off the dining room and kitchen; a quiet, restful spot where you can take your morning coffee while listening to the soothing sound of water flowing in our pretty, cantera-stone fountain.

To make your stay even more sumptuous, all beds have 3-inch thick memory foam toppers, luxurious, Egyptian cotton sheets (400 and 600 thread-count) and super-soft, micro-plush blankets. To keep you warm during those chilly times of year, we also have micro-plush electric blankets and warm duvets.

Our state-of-the-art, whole-house water purification/treatment system (with ultraviolet (UV) light sanitizer, 3 different levels of filtration and water softener) allows our guests to safely drink water from any tap in our home. Our new, stainless steel refrigerator uses this same purified and filtered water to provide cold water in the door and ice in the freezer.

All utilities and housekeeping/gardener service 3 times/week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) is included in the rental prices. If needed, additional housekeeping, gardening and/or a private cook can be made available for an additional fee.

About Owner

Over the years we've had the opportunity to travel to many incredible places in the world, and have been exposed to a myriad of amazing cultures, languages & people. These international experiences had a huge impact on us, shaping our world view in a big way. So much so, that we decided to set about crafting a part-time ex-pat life for ourselves in 2 of our favorite countries - Mexico & France - and we are thrilled with the unconventional life we've chosen!

We currently own homes in the US, Mexico and France & when we aren't able to use them, we offer them to other adventurous people like you!

Owner purchased this house in 2013

Why Owner chose San Miguel de Allende

We first saw San Miguel almost 20 years ago & swore that somehow...someday...we would find a way to live here! We began our search for a home here 8 years ago via the internet. Then, 6 years ago, we took the plunge & starting living in San Miguel part of the year, still looking for our dream home, while renting other people's lovely homes in the meantime.

We found that most homes in San Miguel don't offer a lot of privacy and outdoor space because they are essentially townhouses (sharing 3 of their walls with other homes). We also found many homes are often are quite dark and cave-like inside. So, when we saw the Treehouse, (located right next to Parque Juarez), and we saw the extensive, lushly landscaped gardens with large mature trees and how incredibly light-filled, spacious and private this property felt both inside and out, we knew we'd finally found our home!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Cindi -

We had a great stay in your house in San Miguel. Thank you. Everything worked perfectly and the house had everything one could want. Lulu and her husband were very helpful.

Thanks again.

An Amazing Vacation We'll Never Forget!

  • 5 of 5

We are really stuck for words on how amazing your beautiful casa is here in San Miguel. We arrived here with a lovely greeting from Lulu (the housekeeper and cook) and her husband Eduardo (the handyman and gardener). They are both just lovely, were only a phone call away if we needed any help.

It was just incredible house, perfect location, very close to the center but still hidden away. Every morning we had breakfast on the rooftop terrace with a view of the whole city. The house is so well maintained and the bedrooms are all very comfortable. The living room is great and the kitchen is really well equipped with state of the art appliances and all essentials, it was great for cooking. The collection of artwork and books made whole house even more magical.

Our visit was really inspiring. We spent whole days trying to get lost around the city, visiting museums, in the markets and strolling around the colorful streets, it was more than we ever expected. This house reflects the magic of San Miguel. Highly recommended. I wish we had more time here, 9 days was not enough. Thank you Cindi, this was a vacation we will never forget.

Great Place And A Bad Experience.

  • 1 of 5
Verified Stay

The property is beautiful and centrally located. It put us in a perfect spot to find and buy our new home. The undisclosed demolition and jackhammering next-door, the barking dog on the neighbors terrace each morning, no access to the washer/dryer and vacuum-cleaner all were disappointments. Cindi dealt dishonestly with us by misrepresenting the environment we were entering and stealing our security deposit. She lied about the condition we left the home in. I would never do business with her again and would caution anyone thinking about renting from her to photograph everything upon arrival and prior to leaving. There are many awesome, problem free places in San Miguel de Allende.

Owner's Response: This review is not truthful. It was written by guests that stayed in our home in the middle of August 2016. As they have threatened on multiple occasions, they wrote this review in hopes of scaring away any prospective future guests and hoping to cause us financial harm. They are angry that we kept their security deposit to help pay for the more than $500 worth of damages caused by them and their dog (snuck into our home without our approval). All these damages were thoroughly documented (in writing and with photos) by our household staff and property manager. Since these guests left, we have had more than 14 different lovely guests stay in our home. Each and every one of them has been very happy with their visit. In fact, 6 of these 14 have written very kind, 5-star reviews detailing their experience in our home, as well as their experience in dealing with Cindi. Please be assured that any interactions with us will always be very professional and extremely honest. Before these guests stayed in our home, we NEVER kept even one penny of a guest's security deposit. And, we sincerely hope we never have to again!

Amazing stay at the Treehouse

  • 5 of 5
Verified Stay

The Treehouse was even more beautiful than the pictures on the internet. The bedrooms were all great and the beds extremely comfortable. The location was great, close to the jardin, only a 10 minute walk to downtown and many great restaurants nearby. Lulu and Eduardo were wonderful. We hired Lulu to cook breakfast for us daily and were very happy with her great cooking and pleasant demeanor. It took us a couple of days to figure out the hot water heater, so be sure you get instructions, once you know how it works, there is unlimited hot water. Would definitely stay here again!

A Lovely Home in a Special Place

  • 5 of 5

Notice that we four friends who stayed at the Treehouse during a recent 8 day visit to San Miguel for Dia de Muertos write "home" to characterize the place at Parque Juarez. Who can really tell from an online advertisement whether a place will actually be warm, safe, organized, easy, clean, comfortable and visually inspiring or not? But, when we chose The Treehouse from our narrowed list of possibilities, we were on track for a lovely home in a special place. Its station in a privada right above Parque Juarez is ideal. From the balcony we were able to see out and across much of the town to the presa and countryside beyond and the principal centers and gardens were easily accessible, just a few blocks away.

An inviting tone was first set and then maintained by Cindi’s responses to our email inquiries. Her replies were timely, sensitive and informative. We really felt, from the get-go, that we would be welcomed and that, in addition to a clear and ethical business arrangement, she cared about our experience.

That same tone was strongly supported by the Treehouse staff, Lulu and Eduardo, who answered our questions, helped us with our arrangements, kept everything clean and orderly, and, of special value to us, proved good and tolerant teachers as we tried to revitalize our Spanish speaking skills. We especially enjoyed the meal that Lulu cooked for us on our last day there. It was absolutely yummy and she let us watch and learn from her technique.

San Miguel had and has special meaning for us. For three of us, SMA has been on destination lists forever. Why? Sites like VisitMexico.com have already described its attraction. “San Miguel de Allende is a city that manages to be both quaint and cosmopolitan at the same time. Once an important stop on the silver route between Zacatecas and Mexico City, its historic center is filled with well-preserved buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. With its narrow cobblestone streets, leafy courtyards, fine architectural details and sumptuous interiors, San Miguel de Allende is arguably the prettiest town in Mexico.” One of us has returned several times since a first visit in 1978 - to reconnect with its people, observe its changes and development and take part in days that can be valuable beyond measure.

By the end of our stay we all agreed. If any of us returns to San Miguel in a small group of travelers, we hope the Treehouse will be available. It will be like coming home.

The Treehouse was a perfect home for our stay in San Miguel. The owners were friendly and helpful and the management made for an easy check-in/out. The house is lovely and well appointed and in a very good location, a nice quick walk to the town center. I definitely recommend the Treehouse!
