This Cottage is on the lake at water level and a private setting, only minutes from Traverse City. Cozy comfort is what you will get with this knotty pine rustic feel cottage. There is a large deck to start your morning off with a warm cup of coffee. Enjoy the quiet, watch and listen to wildlife activities from a few feet away on the lakeside deck. Two bedrooms with Queen beds and the third bedroom has two single beds. 1 1/2 baths. Well stocked kitchen with full stove and oven. Sandy bottom waterfront, fire pit and plenty of chairs for relaxing in the sun. The dock is great for fishing off of or for tying up your boat. The lake has several bays and islands to explore with the 2 kayaks and a paddle boat provided for you. A DNR launch site is only a few miles away.
During one of our vacations to Spider Lake, we had an opportunity that we did not expect. To purchase a cottage of our own. This is Pohl's Paradise and we would like to share a bit of that with you. This is truly a little bit of heaven. If you want to relax and enjoy a great family vacation this is the spot!
Mike and Tami Pohl purchased this cottage in 2014
Location / Size / Function / Feel: We walked into this property and and could not believe the setting. It is perfect for what we wanted to have on Spider Lake. When you walk in the door you know you are up north and the location is private and beautiful.
Quaint, Up North, Boating, Fishing, Traverse City, Wine, Casinos, Sleeping Bear Dunes....you can enjoy a quiet day alone or you can drive 15 minutes to Traverse City and enjoy all of the activities they have to offer. You really have the best of both worlds.
Weather was hot, hot, hot! Loved floating in the lake and relaxing. Water was warm as bath water!
This is the second home we have rented for a group stay. I would say the parking issues with the neighbor are a bit of a pain to deal with. I don't like parking on the street and find this inconvenient. The pool was a bit of a problem to work with as there are some issues with it according to the pool guys that came to do the routine maint.
Rooms were large and worked well with our group. Very comfortable environment in a quiet neighborhood. We had runners in our group that commented how friendly the neighborhood was. Kitchen was well appointed and had pretty much everything you need to cook, may want to have more dinnerware (8) or plan for paper plates.
Location is great with plenty of shopping and dining possibilities near by.
Our group had four adult couples and there was plenty of room that we didn't get on each others nerves.
Our first time at Pohls' Spider Lake cottage. It was the perfect home base to start from to begin our annual wine tasting tour get together which included grandma (me), two daughters and two granddaughters. The panoramic views from the cottage were awesome...nature at its best! The pictures and amenities as shown on their website are truly as described. Hope we can return next year.
Perfect location on Spider Lake that also has frontage on a quiet cove. We loved getting up in the morning and kayaking before breakfast. Loons kept us company as we paddled across the lake. With level frontage, it's easy to build a camp fire, eat outside and get back and forth to the cabin. The whole place is what up north is all about. Mike and Tami have done a great job welcoming renters.
Our second year staying here. We enjoy the proximity to traverse city and the surrounding vacation areas. We also love having the kayaks and paddle boats to enjoy the lake. We have added renting jet skis to our activities and that has been the highlight for our teenagers. The Pohls are great hosts.
This was a great getaway. Close to the multitude of delights of Traverse City yet a peaceful, private setting on Spider Lake. We all loved kayaking and the paddle boat on the lake - especially the kids who had their first taste of kayaking here. Fire pit by the lake as the sun set was perfect. Cottage older in style but worked well for our needs - all the essentials work well - kitchen, AC etc. Sound system inside and out a nice touch. We'd recommend this property.
Spider Lake is located in Grand Traverse County in Northwest Michigan. Some of the activities we would recommed are:

Ranch Rudolph offers Horseback riding, ATV rentals, Snowmobile rentals and various other activities.
Downtown Traverse City - Please refer to Traverse City Visitors website for calendar of events - nearly guaranteed for an activity every weekend. Great restaurants and shopping.
Sleeping Bear Dunes - Terrific Day trip to see the most Beautiful place in America - Bring a camera and walking shoes.
State Theater in TC - Privately owned and operated by the community. Great atmosphere to see a movie.
Wine Tasting - Either Leelanau Peninsula or Old Mission Peninsula for great local wine tasting.
Casinos - Turtle Creek Casino on the East Side and Leelanau Sands Casino on the West Side.
