This property was purchased in 2009, and rebuilt in 2011. The home is brand new and is located on one of the most amazing lakes in northern Michigan.
We had a GREAT time at your lovely chalet. It was exactly as pictured, and very cozy and comfortable. We had all rain and cold weather, but we didn't mind a bit. Just snuggled up with books and alternating cups of cocoa and glasses of wine. Lovely!
The nicest surprise was the wonderful dog tie-out. We weren't expecting such convenience! It was so nice just to step outside and hook the pooch up. After one high-energy run down to the end of the line (and subsequent flight), she got the hang of it and enjoyed having some freedom.
We would love to return another time when the weather permits us to wander a bit further.
The House was well organized, very clean and easy to access. Our overall experience with the House as well as the Owner was perfect. We recommend this place to all which like Lakes in the Woods.
My family had an absolutely wonderful week at Little Bear Lake House! When we arrived the house was exceptionally clean. The owners thoughtfully provided enough linens and towels to last our family of 5 for the whole week. Having 3 children, I especially appreciated the fact that there was a full bottle of hand soap in each bathroom. :) The kitchen is fully stocked with glassware, pots, and pans. The whole house is roomy and comfortable. We immediately felt at home. The view of Little Bear Lake from the deck is quite beautiful. The lake itself is very clean, and the beach and lake floor are sandy. My whole family spent hours in the water and jumping off the dock. During the week there were some people out on boats and jet skis, but they all stayed a safe distance from the shore. In the evening we enjoyed playing cards or board games at the raised kitchen table. There is a small fire pit in the front yard that is great for roasting marshmallows. One cloudy day we drove into Gaylord and went to Bavarian Falls Park for mini-golf, which was also a lot of fun. We were so impressed with Little Bear Lake House and Little Bear Lake, and we hope to be able to stay there again!
Our family had the most enjoyable, unforgettable experience staying in Little Bear Lake house. The house was clean, beautifully decorated and with all amenities you could wish for. We will definitely stay again.
The property was exactly what were looking for. Living in South FL my wife was eager to show our kids how she spent her Summer's as a kid in N. Michigan. Little bear lake house did not disappoint. The house was immaculate, offered great views, and tons of stuff to do. Being there a week we found ourselves only leaving the house twice for a couple filed trips. Steve was attentive and even recommended a pontoon boat rental place that dropped a boat right on the lake for us. We had a blast and would certainly stay there again if we make our way back up to MI.
Thank you fo allowing us to share your lovely lake home. The little touches really made the house feel like a home and allowed our visit to be worry free. Everything in the description was completely accurate, and the house was immaculare. The owner, Steve, went above and beyond for us and was immensly helpful, even with matters that did not pertain to the cabin, he truly made our stay exceptional. I have only a single recommendation, and this is from someone with a different "point of view". It may be helpful to add another mirror to the master bedroom (closet or bathroom door?) as the one in the master bath is a bit small and high, and at 5ft tall I struggled to see anything other than the top of my head.
I highly recommend staying at the lake home, eating out in Johanasburg at The Old Depot or Paul's Pub, and taking in the local sites. Gaylord is nearby and also touts some great family dining. We loved the "brick" of fries we had at the Alpine, and the steak at Benethum's is without compare. We had a very bad experience at Arlenes dinner and do not recommend them for the food or the service. The house is only about an hour away from Mackinac and Traverse City making day trips a snap.. The lake was peaceful and quiet, our family enjoyed taking evening canoe rides.
This is a beautiful cottage! Very reasonably priced, clean and spacious. The nearest town leaves much to be desired-I would strongly recommend heading into Gaylord for groceries and shopping.
Here are some pros and cons.
Pros: beautiful surroundings, lovely house, spacious living area, washer and dryer, fairly close to Traverse City and Mackinac Island, owner very easy to communicate with, love the log cabin feel of the house
Cons: the incredibly steep and long stairway down to the water. Would be quite treacherous with young children or in the dark, no wifi (unfortunately I often have to take work along on vacation with me), not enough outdoor chairs, kayak is in rough shape-hubby had to go and buy a patch kit to fix the leak, could use more seating in livong room, the doorwall screen was broken when we got there but my dad was able to get it back in.
Overall, it is a nice place to stay but I would hesitate to take very young children or anyone elderly or with walking issues.
