About The Owner

This is where we grew up. We have been here since 1971. My husband and I went to Downieville School. Our senior class size was 8. My husband and I were married in Downieville. This is a special place for us and our famiy.

The Owner purchased this house in 1971

Why The Owner chose Gold Country / High Sierra

We enjoy Downieville for many of the same reasons you do, and by offering our home as a vacation rental we are able to share it with you.

What makes this house unique

This cabin overlooks town and the quant village views, but its just a minute walk from the river, grocery store, restaurants and bars. It is in the middle of the action and yet has all the privacy you could want.

PERFECT!!

  • 5 of 5

We were in Downieville for our daughter's wedding. She & her now-husband are hiking the entire 2650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and stopped in Sierra City for a full-on wedding with 110 guests! What a beautiful area! Downieville is an adorable town -- it did not disappoint. And the Bear Run Cabin provided the perfect lodging for our family. It was indeed close to everything. Very convenient, very clean, very comfortable bedding, very lovely views -- perfect for our needs! We would most certainly recommend this house to others.

The Bear Run Cabin was awesome, the owners were great to work with and they've done an amazing job with this house! Kitchen is stocked with all the equipment you need, the beds were all comfortable and the entire house was very clean! They also have a great DVD collection. Great cabin in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Very clean, charming cabin with great view of Downieville, the river and pine covered mountains. The beds were incredibly comfortable and Debbie has anticipated every need (well equipped kitchen, dozens of movies, lots of extra towels and a basket of clean rags for cleaning your bike after the amazing Downieville downhill ride). The swimming holes nearby were very deep (even in late August) so we enjoyed jumping off rocks and cooling off on warm days. BTW, the cabin has A/C if the days get too hot. Dinner at Sardine Lake Lodge, with cocktails beforehand at their lakeside bar, was a highlight. I highly recommend Bear Run Cabin as your base in Downieville!!!

Base Camp for Bike Safari

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of friends converging on Downieville for a ritual long weekend of mountain biking and needed a place to accommodate. The Bear Run Cabin fit the bill perfectly. Debbie's communication was excellent and there were no surprises - everything was exactly as advertised. Walking distance to all points in town, including bike shuttles, swimming, and fooding. We weren't really "coupled up", so we couldn't take full advantage of the the comfy King & Queen beds, but the cabin is spacious and absorbed all 7 of us nicely. Abundant parking and bike storage/cleaning areas, a very short walk to town, comfortable furnishings and a nice selection of DVDs made it very nice and welcoming. It was very quiet evenings and mornings out on the open deck/porch in spite of being perched right above the center of town. My guests were all very happy with the accommodations and I was awarded hero status for scoring the killer pad - thanks again, we'll be back.

Downieville Perch

  • 5 of 5

Perched above town, this cabin has great views from the back porch. I was concerned that the cabin's lack of cable and internet would be a bummer for us but it turned out to be a great opportunity to unplug. We brought a couple of guitars and sat out on the porch strumming and watching the sleepy goings on in town. Clean and comfortable, this cabin is a great place to base your Downieville adventure.
