About Kim Barry

Chris and I are both in Mortgage Banking so time to relax very important to us. We fell in love with Ocean Park and the Long Beach area on a weekend trip with our kids in 2003. We purchased our home in 2004 and enjoy a lot of great family time clamming, hiking, horse back riding, fishing, boating and just relaxing at the beach.

Kim Barry purchased this house in 2003

Why Kim Barry chose Ocean Park

Jetsam's Landing is located very close to the Ocean Park Beach approach on Bay Ave so you can walk or if you like to drive on the beach you can enjoy the 25 miles of beaches and it is easy and fun. We are near 2 grocery stores, a pharmacy, shops, restaurants, a large park, and the Ocean Park School play ground so shopping or letting the kids play is very close. So no matter what you plans are for the day you can take a short walk or ride a bike. You can also drive on the beach

What makes this house unique

We love the lazy feel of being in the heart of a small sleepy beach town and being able to take a very short walk to the beach where we often see deer walk walking down the street at dawn and Bald Eagles on the snags on the sand dunes. We love having an evening fire in our fire pit or down on the beach, playing bad mitten on the lawn, or playing cards on the deck. Come for a weekend and stay for a life time.

Very Dirty

  • 2 of 5

There was a lot of spiderwebs and especially dog hair. We had to vacuum the place when we got there and do a load of laundry. Under the beds and couches were filthy. There was even dog hair in the kitchen sink. They do not hire a maid service and expect the tenants to do most of the cleaning before they leave. The place reflects that. We would probably actually stay there again if it was clean. We have stayed at other vrbo places before and this was the first place that did not use a cleaning/maid service. The place needs a deep cleaning. If they change their cleaning policy we would recommend the place for the price: close to the beach, away from the touristy part of town, good restaurant close by and two grocery stores super close.

Owner's Response: We apologies for any cleaning that need to be done by our guest. We have professional cleaners clean after every guest. We were told this had been done. We were never told by these guest of any issues with the home at the time of their stay. We would have addressed the issue that day. We will definitely look into the issues they brought up to insure our guest have the best possible stay.

Storybook Beach Cottage in Great Location!

  • 3 of 5

The moment that my family and I drove up to this cute little place, we knew it was going to be a great getaway! My parents flew in from California to go clamming for the first time, and this cottage is located right off the main beach access. In less than 10 minutes, we were parked on the beach, gear in hand, and scavenging for clams. And walking distance to groceries and coffee - just a couple blocks from a sweet coffee/ice cream shop and 3 blocks from Jack's mercantile which has EVERYTHING and more! There's parking for 2 cars in front of the house, and the neighborhood is safe and quiet. This was a plus since we left our gear and canoe in our cars. And for the dog lovers (which we are), the next door neighbor has 3 adorable Pomerians in their yard (fenced). They did love to bark and were very excited whenever someone was outside. Fortunately, they went inside at night, and their barks were muted once inside the house.

The house itself is cozy with a well-stocked kitchen. There were only 4 of us, but it could easily accommodate 6. Just note that there is only 1 bathroom. The bedrooms were neat and tidy, and the beds were VERY comfortable. However, -1 star for overall dustiness and cobwebs/dead bugs in the corners. It just seemed like the house had not had any occupants for some time. Another -1 star for moldy/stale food in the fridge and cupboards which we cleaned out.

As a frequent house sitter, I made sure that we left the place better than we found it. This is a super sweet house that just needed a little TLC. I will DEFINITELY look to book this place again for our next family/friends getaway!

Excellent Vacation Weekend !!!

  • 5 of 5

The house was just what the 7 of us with 2 small dogs were looking for. It was attractive and quite comfortable. It was close to the beach, had everything we needed such as toilet paper, cleaners, oven, washing machine, etc. The stay was more economical and much more comfortable than if we had booked a motel. Hope to return soon. Customer service was prompt and courteous.

Super fun spot!

  • 5 of 5

Great location, especially if you want to really get away. Plenty of space to crash and the kitchen is well stocked. The owners were easy to contact and really laid back. Beach is a 5 minute walk away and we were the only ones on it.

Cute cottage

  • 3 of 5

The cottage has everything you need, but nothing over the top spectacular. We didn't find it up to our standards of cleanliness. But it was comfortable.

nice enough for the price

  • 3 of 5

Never having been to Oceanpark, I was pleasantly surprise, it's a really beautiful, uncrowded beach. The house is close enough too the beach that we could walk. We were told to wash sand off before entering the house, since they use septic but there is no hose bib outside, so we improvised with a bucket with water in it for our feet and sandy clothes, which we swished around to remove the sand. The house occomodated our group of three moms and our two kids, each nicely. The downstairs bedroom reeked of mold and my friend's four year old daughter was very sick. Upstairs seemed fine though. I didn't like cleaning the house at the end. We were required to clean the linens, vacuum, sweep, and mop the floor. Each of us had a toddler and a baby to take care of, so our last day was stressful trying to pack and clean. I'd rather have had the option of paying an extra $75 or so to avoid this hassle. I'd rather have spent that time enjoying breakfast and playing with the kids at the beach.

Owner's Response: My cleaning policy is the same as most vacation rentals. The guests are asked to wash the sheets and towels. Leave beds unmade for the cleaner to make. I ask they clean the kitchen, and take their trash out. The cleaner does the rest. I told the guest this before she rented and she had no issue with this idea. IF she had told me she would rather leave the house a mess or called me on her departure to tell me this I would have just charged her for larger cleaning fee. I try to keep my rates reasonable and my cleaning policy fair. We try very hard to make are guest happy and this guest never said anything to me about any issues. We provide a nice clean safe home near the beach and stores at a good rate. We stay at this house a lot and have not had issues with mold smell and we have not had complaints about mold smell. This Review is completely over blown.
