This lovely Craftsman-style vacation home on Orcas Island is a little piece of paradise. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts design movement of the early 20th century, the interior is open and warm, with hardwood floors, stained glass accents, and exposed woodwork. A pleasing spot both inside and out, up to six guests will greatly enjoy a stay at the aptly named Discovery View Cabin.
The main floor is a bright and light filled open concept living room, dining room and kitchen with ten foot high ceilings. The living room includes large windows and Mission-style wood furniture with comfortable cushions, colorful throw rugs and a beautifully tiled gas fireplace. Pick a cozy spot to settle in, choose a book or game from the many shelves, and relax. There is a stereo with iPod dock, a TV, and a DVD player, so you'll have no shortage of entertainment for those cold, stormy days. There is also WiFi to check work emails, research possible island excursions, or find a new salmon recipe for dinner.
The home itself is well-equipped to entertain you both indoors and out! You'll find two adult bikes and two single-person kayaks (with paddles) for exploring all areas of the island. There's also a volleyball kit, badminton kit, tennis gear (two rackets and balls), beach chairs, and an umbrella to make the most of your time outdoors.
The kitchen has butcher block counters, colorful mugs for coffee, and even a cookbook collection for culinary inspiration! All the appliances you need to create tasty vacation meals are right at your fingertips. The nearby dining room table seats six and is open to the living area, making it easy to spread out and socialize. Glass French doors off the dining room lead out to a large deck with a west view of the saltwater bay of Eastsound through the forested landscape. On the south side of the house, off the living room, is a sunny brick patio surrounded by rosemary, lavender, and fir trees. On sunny days, you can dine al fresco and breathe in the fresh Puget Sound air!
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, all with queen sized beds, soft bedding and decorative touches throughout each room. There is a beautiful water view through the trees. The two bathrooms are also located upstairs and feature white hexagonal tile floor, pedestal sinks, framed botanical drawings, and walk-in showers.
Orcas Island is 57 square miles of scenic hills, lakes, sea views, and forests. Like the other three main islands in the San Juan Island archipelago, it is accessible by the Washington Sate Ferry, private boat, or plane.
Less than five miles away, you'll want to spend plenty of time walking around picturesque Eastsound, the largest town on the island. Here you will find historic homes and buildings, some dating back to the late 1800s. This charming village has many art galleries, museums, shops, bookstores, cafes and restaurants. Don't miss the other smaller towns of Olga, Deer Harbor and Orcas Village. Dining out on Orcas Island offers a variety of choices, ranging from casual cafes to some of the finest restaurants in the Northwest.
Outdoor activities on Orcas Island include golfing at Orcas Island Golf Course, biking the rolling island hills, horseback riding, whale watching, kayaking, beach combing and bird watching. Located just minutes from the cabin, Moran State Park has over 5,000 acres of forest and almost 40 miles of trails to explore. Besides hiking the many nature trails, this is a popular destination for lake swimming, boating, fishing, and picnicking. Up for a challenge? Hike or drive to the 2,400 foot summit of Mount Constitution and gaze out over both the US and Canada!
Leave your stresses behind, come rejuvenate, and create lasting memories in this little piece of paradise.
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
My husband and I got away from the city for the weekend to stay in this beautiful home. It was so cozy, while still being spacious and elegant. We would love to come here again and again!
This was a fantastic house to relax on a getaway girls weekend. The house was beautiful, with a cozy fireplace and well equipped kitchen. The beds were comfy and the neighborhood quiet and peaceful. It was perfect for five of us. The island was great to explore, despite a lot of rain and fog. Would love to return.
Beautiful and relaxing home conveniently located close to Moran state park and east sound. Would stay here again.
Great location just about Moran State park. Convenient access to the lake, hiking, East sound. The house was comfortable, modern, spacious and had all the amenities we needed for a winter mini-break. Particularly enjoyed playing board games by the fire :)
The property is really excellent. It is in fantastic condition, and to a high degree of specification. The large kitchen was great as we enjoy cooking. The house is very tranquil, and relaxing.
We have stayed in a number of hones and this one was by far the nicest. The property was well maintained and beautifully decorated. The home is filled with natural light and each windows have beautiful views. The kitchen is large and we'll equipped. The beds were comfortable and the linens were fresh and new. We would definitely come back.
